The month of June 2019 is proving to be a very interesting month in the tech sphere of the country. Different announcements and appointments inform of the slow but definite advancement of solution-driven innovations in the country.

MAX.NG Set To Expand After Investment Round

In the stiff competition within the bike hailing business, with the launch of ORide, and the venturing by GOkada into GBoat, it seems that the pioneer bike-hailing company in Nigeria, Max.Ng, has refused to be left behind.

In a report by Reuters, it was revealed that Max.NG has plans in the works to boost its expansion, using funds garnered in a recent investment round to the tune of within $5 million to $7 million.

According to Max.ng’s Co-Founder, Mr Adetayo Bamiduro, this investment will be used, amongst other plans, to increase the company’s rides from 200,000 by May 2019 to 2 million rides by mid-2020 and expand to other cities in the country.

In Mr Bamiduro’s words, “What we’ve done is to look at the market in Nigeria and across the region and say ‘what pieces are missing?’: financial infrastructure for mobility doesn’t exist, ride-hailing technology for two-wheeled and three-wheeled mobility doesn’t exist.”

Why this news is worth trending is the because this investment will give Max.ng the boosting to step it up at par with its competitions, providing more options for Nigerians when it comes to transportation and beating the dreaded traffic jams.

While the co-founder refused to reveal the investors involved in this round, his conviction in the expectant boost the investment would bring is obvious.

Having GOkada, ORide, GBoat and more Max.NG bikes, movement in the densely-populated Lagos State would be improved and a little less frustrating.

The online career portal and a subsidiary of the user-centric marketplace African company, Ringer One African Media (ROAM), Jobberman Nigeria, has appointed the former Engagement Manager McKinsey & Company, Lagos Office, Hilda Kabushenga Kragha as the CEO. This happened after its former CEO and co-founder; Mr Ayodeji Adewunmi exited the office and joined GOkada as Co-CEO.

This appointment, aside from its adherence to the call for more women in tech which is expected to create more balance and diversity in tech, would bring a new dimension to the job and career sector of the country.

While Jobberman may be the Number 1 job and career online platform in the Sub-Saharan division, but there is still a need for improvement, which it is expected that Hilda will promote as CEO.

The gap between the Employers and the Job Seekers need to be bridged, and this only seems possible by innovative disruptions of the present processes. While this process has been taken online, it still has setbacks which make it yet to fulfil its full purpose.

That is where Hilda comes in. Using her past experience in strategy, human capital, talent management, change management and organizational behavior, she says, “I am excited to join the Jobberman team at a time when Africa, specifically Nigeria, is at the cusp of redefining the way we approach talent management and workplace productivity. I look forward to engaging with all of our stakeholders and driving positive impact across the country.”

The potential of the talent contained in Nigeria is yet to be tapped and any move which can effect positive change is welcome, and the words of the CEO, ROAM, Clemens Weitz, “Nigeria has one of the largest and fastest growing workforces in the world, rich in opportunity and global relevance. Hilda’s experience, but more importantly, passion to bring positive change to the labor market has made her the best possible person for this unique position. We wish her great success in redefining the boundaries!” shows that there are high hopes expected from this appointment.
