It is safe to say that the accolades Farmcrowdy has received overtime are well deserved. The impact of its activities is real: Empowering smallholder farmers as a way of contributing to increasing domestic food production and security.
So far, over 11,000 rural farmers have been able to keep a job, expand farm operations five times more and increase their income by 80% since Farmcrowdy launched in November, 2016.
Farmcrowdy is about providing solutions to critical areas of the society. For this reason we believe that the latest move is a giant step towards actualising United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030; in Nigeria.
The Nigeria’s first digital agriculture company, last weekend, introduced Crowdyvest, an innovative platform through which they intend to enrich the society and at the same time ensure ‘sponsors’ have benefit for their investments.
So, what is Crowdyvest’s mission?
Crowdyvest was introduced as an impact-driven platform that connects individuals to multiple sponsorship opportunities that are safe, trusted and secure.
The crucial thing about Crowdyvest is that it permeates into any of the seventeen United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
In 2015, more than 190 world leaders committed to SDGs to help us all end extreme poverty, fight inequality & injustice, and fix climate change.
With the understanding that all of us have a role to play if we’re going to achieve these goals of a more prosperous, equitable, and sustainable world, Farmcrowdy introduced Crowdyvest as exclusive-style platform that connects sponsors with sponsorship opportunities within the seventeen SDGs.
For instance, although the world have made great strides in poverty alleviation over the last 30 years, more than one billion people still live on less than $1.25/day.
Even the UN understands the world won’t be able to reach other global goals if we can’t move the needle on this one. Thus, to eradicate extreme poverty and halve the number of people living in poverty by 2030 implies massive investment in agriculture.
If you consider SDG number three, it speaks about we living in the most advanced age of science and medicine; yet preventable disease, untreated drug & alcohol abuse, preventable birth defects, and avoidable traffic & industrial accidents still kill millions of people each year.
Where a person lives or how much money she has should never keep her from receiving the medical attention she needs.
Now, if we want to make sure that every person, child or adult, gets the resources they need to live a long and healthy life, then it calls for investment in solutions that address challenges identified in the Goal Number Three.
Essentially, present and future sponsors of Crowdyvest will have opportunity to invest in Agriculture and other impact-driven sectors thereby tackling poverty and hunger while recouping their investments.
Therefore, Crowdyvest was launched to foster a broader avenue for economic growth and build a system that will span across Nigeria and the rest of Africa.
How will Farmcrowdy handle this?
The launch will see a successful migration of all the existing sponsors under the Farmcrowdy platform to the Crowdyvest platform without any need to create a fresh account.
New sponsors will also be able to sign up to a safe, secure and trusted platform for free.
Every sponsor will continue to safely sponsor farms on the Farmcrowdy platform as well as all other portfolio products and sponsorship opportunities to be launched via the Crowdyvest platform in the future. Head or tail, the sponsors are not losing anything rather more avenues for investments are created. The portfolio has enlarged.
Let’s hear from the Founder and CEO of Crowdyvest, Onyeka Akumah, expatiate further on this:
“We have been able to successfully implement a business model in one of the most challenging sectors in the world, driving growth in Agriculture (Food and Security). With our model, we have connected over 25,000 farmers with access to funding, technical expertise and market access by continuously creating value for them and we now intend to implement this across other sectors of the economy while having a direct impact on the achievement of the United Nations’ SDGs”.
Nodding in agreement, Farmcrowdy’s new Managing Director, Kenneth Obiajulu, comments:
“It has been an amazing opportunity to lead a brand like Farmgate Africa and achieving a great amount of traction in such a short period of time. The plan is now to consolidate on the traction from both Farmcrowdy and Farmgate Africa to build a more robust Farmcrowdy that can create more value points across the African agricultural value chain.
Prior to joining Farmgate, Kenneth had worked and consulted for international organizations like The World Bank Group, TechnoServe, Sustainable Food Lab, Accenture, Nigerian Breweries, just to mention a few.
How does Crowdyvest differ from other investment platforms?
In a number of ways:
- The Crowdyvest platform differs from all other investment platforms as it shares its sponsorship risk with its sponsors.
- This means that both Crowdyvest and its sponsors will have their monies used to grow the businesses of the opportunities listed on the platform.
- Crowdyvest is an impact-driven platform that connects its members to multiple sponsorship opportunities that are safe, secure, and trusted.
- The Mission is to provide impact-driven opportunities for people to increase their finances and contribute to economic growth.
We believe that the team made up of passionate men and women who have come from the fields of agriculture, finance, transport, and technology are on the right track to achieving the goal to get sponsors’ money working smarter and harder for them, every day.
Let the innovation continue.
