Google Cloud and elastifile
The tech giant, Google, has announced its entrance into a definite agreement to acquire the providers of simple, scalable, cloud-native enterprise file storage, Elastifile.

The acquisition process, which is still subject to customary closing conditions, is expected to be completed later this year, after which Elastifile will join Google Cloud.

Digital Transformation

In its announcement made today, Google acknowledged the need for better file storage for enterprise infrastructure and acceleration of digital transformation, hence its move to acquire Elastifile.

Elastifile is recognized as a pioneer in solving challenges associated with file storage for enterprise-grade applications running at scale in the cloud.

According to the CEO, Elastifile, Erwan Menard, “Helping our customers solve difficult storage challenges for their most critical workloads has enabled these enterprises to unleash the full benefits of the cloud. We’re excited to join Google for the next part of our journey, building on the success we’ve had together over the past two and a half years. File storage is essential to enterprise cloud adoption and, together with Google, we are well-positioned to serve those needs.”

Latency, Consistency and Scalability

Listing different industries to benefit from what might be described as a cloud storage facility upgrade, the announcement reads, “The combination of Elastifile and Google Cloud will support bringing traditional workloads into GCP faster and simplify the management and scaling of data and compute intensive workloads. Furthermore, we believe this combination will empower businesses to build industry-specific, high performance applications that need petabyte-scale file storage more quickly and easily.”

This is the second acquisition move since the Google Cloud CEO, Thomas Kurian, joined the company in November, taking over from Diane Greene. While no figure was mentioned to reveal the price of the acquisition, it is expected that this acquisition would improve the scalability benefits of the cloud as well as improve the performance level of latency and consistency. It is obviously important that cloud storage be easily accessible and scalable. This will increase its ease of use, managing the daily increasing use of the file storage in the cloud.

While such announcements tend to mean an eventual trickling-effect to Africa and Nigeria, it leaves no doubt that it will boost the file storage capabilities of emerging technological industries in the continent and the country.

We wait to see the benefits.
