Engineering: Federal Ministry of Science and Tech offers to assist varsities



The Federal Ministry of Science and Technology is to assist Nigerian Universities to up the ante in the area of Engineering and Technological Innovations.

The Minister of State in the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology, Mohammed Abdullahi disclosed this when the management of Nasarawa State University paid him a working visit in his office on Thursday in Abuja.

Mohammed Abdullahi, further said that research efforts by the Ministry will no longer be put on the shelf but would be patented and commercialized so as to further boost economic diversification of the Country.

He added that the desire of the Ministry to partner with the Universities was informed by the need to stem unemployment among the youths.

He added “we want to ensure that all trades, all lines of profession are adequately supported, so that a lot of benefits can be harvested for the nation, in order to have multiple advantage of knowledge and valuable employment of our teeming youths”.

The Minister of state promised to assist Nasarawa state University to upgrade its facilities in Engineering through Reverse Engineering being pioneered by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) a flagship agency of the Ministry.

Mohammed Abdullahi said the Ministry will be willing to support Nasarawa state University, adding that the University should furnish the Ministry with its areas of need.

Speaking earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of the University Prof. Suleiman Bala Mohammed told the Minister of State that the University was striving to ensure Information Communication Technology drives learning and teaching, while ensuring good ethical conduct among the academia, workers and students in the Community.

He said the University was also making strenuous efforts to ensure that curriculum of the University was Science-centred.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the Minister on his appointment, adding the appointment was well-deserved considering his moral rectitude, hardwork and Intellectual capacity.
