The Minister disclosed this while inaugurating the committees on Research and Developments (R& D) and that of Public Private Partnership (PPP) in his office in Abuja on Thursday.

Dr. Onu said the overall intent of the new policy thrust was to ensure a knowledge- driven economy rather than  dependent on commodity.

He further said that the Ministry will strive to ensure that all the promises made by Mr. President in his 2nd coming are fulfilled to the letter.

In his word “President Muhammadu Buhari has made a number of promises to us, it is therefore left for us as a Ministry to make sure we achieve the mandate given to us”.

The Minister added that the Ministry had succeeded in protecting most research results by patent, through National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion (NOTAP).

Dr. Onu said the Ministry had recorded some positive results in commercialization, citing the FIRRO high-density biscuits commercialized by NASCO group of companies.

The Minister said a leading pharmaceutical company will soon be marketing a special solution developed by research efforts of the Ministry for managing Sickle Cell Anemia.

He further called on the committee members to work hard to achieve the mandate giving them.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Committee on Public Private Partnership (PPP) Dr. Peter Ekweazoh thanked the Minister for finding them worthy and promised that the committee will work hard to achieve the tasks entrusted to it in record time.
