​Nigeria Computer Society Ogun Chapter takes the lead to own secretariat

The National President of the Nigeria Computer Society, NCS, Prof. Adesina Simeon Sodiya has commended the Ogun State chapter of the society for always blazin​​g the trail especially in the area of establishing its State secretariat.

Prof. Sodiya gave the commendation on Thursday in during the foundation laying of the chapter’s secretariat, the first of its kind in the nation located beside the Independent National Electoral Commission headquarters, Magbon, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta.

According to the President, “over the past forty fifty years of existence of NCS, no chapter has a state secretariat building. The laying of this foundation stone of Ogun NCS Secretariat is indeed an historic moment”.

Prof. Sodiya while commending the Ogun State chapter of the society said, “this is not surprising because Ogun State is always known as pacesetter and the gateway for innovation and creativity”.

“The project we celebrate today is really an unprecedented endeavor and it will certainly further promote the image of our dear society”, the President disclosed.

On her part, the NCS coordinator for South West, who equally leads the Planning Committee, Dr. Bukola Onashoga while briefing the press on the activities lined of for the chapter’s Ogun Information Technology Merit Award (OGITMA), coming up on Friday, 21st February 2020 said, “we would be recognising, appreciating and awarding those that have in one way or the other being a blessing to the society.

Earlier in her welcome address, the Chairman of Nigeria Computer Society, Ogun State chapter, Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte thanked the President and other members for their selfless efforts towards the development of the chapter and the society at large.

She thereafter charged all members to continue to provide solution to challenges confronting the society adding that by so doing, government would come looking for the society for solutions.

Honorary Recognition

The Chapter has also planned an honorary recognition of past chairmen that served within the last 10years; they’re to be decorated during the grand finale of the celebration.

Dr. Onashoga also rolled out the history of NCS Ogun Chapter from 20years ago till the Inauguration of the state chapter in 2009 and then gave a highlight of the achievements by each transition.

NCS Ogun seeks support on Computer Brains Club

The Chapter is further seeking for collaboration to resuscitate the Computer Brains Club. This was part of the vision by then Dr. Bukola Onashoga led executives and had registered schools and pupils after a workshop was held to draw a scheme for digital literacy for the Club.

“But efforts and plans were abortive for lack of fund. There were about 2000 registered pupils during the inauguration”, she told TechEconomy.ng.

Dr. Onashoga who happens to be a former Chairman sought the support of the  public in encouraging IT Education from cradle so as to sustain  the vision “Imparting IT Knowledge”

Our Correspondent gathered that a related activity under Dr. Yele Okeremi Young IT Brains competition is part of plans to test the pupil/members’ abilities after a year of training.

    I’ve always applauded the Westerners they are fast in moving with the trends. Kudos Ogun state!

      Yes o. They have taken a great step. And we believe they will sustain the tempo especially in human capacity/skills development. That is key to achieving digital economy.
