Seeking out solutions in difficult situations is a value Professor Ayodele Awojobi Design Competition (PAADC) has upheld since inception and proven again by its decision to hold the grand finale of its fourth edition as a virtual event as opposed to the conventional physical event that was set to host over 2,500 individuals, including key industry leaders, innovators, and students.
PAADC is Nigeria’s largest undergraduate annual design competition that is entirely organised by students of the University of Lagos.
In the past three editions, PAADC has produced teams of undergraduates with innovations centred on Artificial Intelligence, Agriculture, Healthcare amongst others with the support of various sponsors and partners, and received over a thousand collated applications.
Its fourth edition, themed, “Design Without Limits,” is set to be even bigger; in spite of the pandemic.
In preparation for the event, Chairman, PAADC Planning Committee, Omoniyi Fasasi said, “We have lined up an exciting three-day virtual event from 3rd – 5th of September, 2020 that will spotlight mind blowing innovations from the top five teams that were selected from a pool of over 100 applications that we received across the country.
“We are gathering innovators, industry leaders, students, tech enthusiasts…all these people in the same space. We want to show the world that Nigerian youths are brilliant and to inspire other young people to think about ways they can impact positively in their society.”
So far, the competition has successfully attracted and received support from reputable organisations such as: Kawai technologies, Tangerine Life Insurance, Visual Collaborative, amongst others.
The target audience population is pegged at 5,000 people over three days. The winning team of the competition will be awarded a sum of 1 million Naira for their innovation along with incubation and mentorship.
PAADC has successfully tailored itself to a platform that facilitates the development of innovative solutions to problems particular to the Nigerian society and one that challenges young people to create their own paths and shape the reality they want to see.
