Dual-screen laptops are an idea whose time has finally come. No longer left to the fantasy world of concept products, laptops with dual screens are now a reality.
There are a many of things to be said about the ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo (UX581), but you likely don’t care about any of them. You — like nearly anyone else who looks at the ZenBook Pro Duo — are likely here for one thing: the absolutely wild-looking second screen that gives the laptop signature name.
While it’s valid to say that there are not a lot of cutting-edge dual screen and OLED laptops, the 15-inch ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo (UX581) is the first to put two screens together in the same laptop, making it a potential powerhouse and a workhorse in cramped spaces for creatives; Photographers, developers, music producers, video editors, programmers, architects and event gamers.
It’s not the first two-screen laptop by any means: companies (including ASUS) have been trying to figure out a way to graft a second display onto our computers for years. But ASUS implementation here is different in that it’s proven to be useful.
The main 4K display, an OLED panel, boasts many features that will appeal to digital artists, including HDR support, Pantone validation, a rated 100,000:1 contrast ratio that reflects the extreme depth of OLED-source black, and the ability to display the entire DCI-P3 colour gamut.
The screen looks fantastic for watching videos and browsing the web, with inky blacks, crisp text, and vivid colours.
It’s impossible to appreciate it unless you’re looking at it in person or displayed on another OLED display.

ASUS ZenBook Pro Duo (UX581) with ScreenPad Plus gives you on-the-go computing like you’ve never experienced before.
The 4K secondary touchscreen that works seamlessly with the main 15.6-inch 4K UHD OLED touchscreen, giving users endless ways to optimize and personalize their workflow.
A series of handy built-in apps help boost your productivity. Quick Key allows one-tap automation of complex keyboard sequences, and Handwriting lets you input text intuitively.
The ScreenPad Plus offers some hands-on tutorials, which familiarize you with using the Launcher and the Action Menu when you power on the ZenBook Pro Duo for the first time.
The Launcher, accessed by tapping on the chevron icon on the left-hand side of the ScreenPad Plus, is the principal means of control. Here you’ll find a customizable app drawer that will launch apps to run directly on the ScreenPad Plus, instead of the main display.
As you’d expect for such a forward-thinking, expensive laptop, the ZenBook Pro Duo also has plenty of other advanced features besides the ScreenPad Plus.
These include simple niceties available on many ASUS laptops, like a touchpad that doubles as a calculator—you hold your finger over the embossed calculator symbol for one second to activate the backlit numbers… and an ErgoLift hinge that tilts the keyboard and ScreenPad Plus toward you when the laptop is open, for a more ergonomic typing, viewing, drawing, and tapping position.
There are also useful quick controls such as App Switcher, ViewMax and Task Swap for intuitive interactions between the main display and ScreenPad Plus.
Task Group lets you lock into work mode by opening multiple tasks with a single touch. And now you can drag apps or in-app toolbars onto ScreenPad Plus to give you more room to work on the main display, wherever you are. With ZenBook Pro Duo and the bundled stylus — or active stylus — you can really let your creativity flow.
The ScreenPad Plus gives you a superbly ergonomic and stable platform for writing or drawing.
Take notes, sketch out your ideas, or do precision graphical editing in the most intuitive way ever.
There’s also a separate palm rest in the box, which enhances the ErgoLift tilting keyboard design to give you the most comfortable typing experience ever.
