Nigerians on social media say Self-Certification forms order ill-timed, may spark increase in covid-19 cases

Many Nigerians including Twitter users, are finding it difficult to understand the rationale behind fresh order by the Federal Government of Nigeria, directing bank account holders to embark on another round of Know-Your-Customer (KYC) processes.

They wonder why the government issued the order at a time the country is still recording Coronavirus pandemic cases and the impact on economy unabated.

They believe that the FG’s order that all persons holding accounts across financial institutions and insurance firms to complete and submit Self-certification forms, is ill-timed.

Techeconomy.ng reported that the government made the order in a series of social media post on Thursday, September 17, giving warning that failure to comply may include a monetary penalty or inability to operate the account.

Reacting to the current administration’s policy, some Nigerians are of the opinion that the form should be available online because of COVID-19 pandemic outbreak.
