NCS Lagos Chapter to honour Ahmed Bola Tinubu and best 2020 WAEC students at IT conference

The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Lagos State Chapter, on Monday, has introduced ‘Information Technology (IT) Enabler Award’ with the Former Governor of Lagos State and a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Chief Bola
Ahmed Tinubu as the first recipient.

The Ag. Chairman, NCS Lagos chapter, Mr Kunle Oladipupo, disclosed this at a news briefing in Lagos, stressing that the award is meant to honour individuals and organisations that have leveraged on IT, across sectors, to drive value addition to the economy and humanity at large.

He said that the choice of Chief Tinubu was due to his then administration’s adoption and deployment of Oracle’s solution (technology) that led to the improvement Internally Generated Revenue, amongst other benefits.

Oladipupo said that the former Governor’s foresight through the adoption of the technology was chief among reasons Lagos State is economically stable.

He added that the award will be presented to the recipient during the Chapter’s Annual IT Conference and award with the theme ‘Digital Economy, Challenges, Opportunities and Strategies of Post COVID 19’.

According to him, Tinubu, during his tenure as the governor of Lagos State built a foundation on revenue generation which subsequent governors are leveraging on.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu will be the special guest at the Conference which has the Deputy Managing Director of the Nigeria Inter-Bank Settlement Systems Plc (NIBSS), Mr. Niyi Ajao as the chairman.

The President of NCS, Professor Adesina Sodiya is the chief host while Mrs. Funke Alomooluwa is the guest speaker.

‘’It is one of the awards that would be given at the conference”, he said stressing that the Chapter also plans to award Best students with the 2020 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) results.

The award, he said, is called ‘Don Etiebet Innovation Prize’ which is meant to reward students in tertiary institutions situated in Lagos for developing innovative solutions that address challenges in the society.

The NCS Lagos State acting Chairman said that due to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic across the world, earlier in the year, this year’s prize was targeted at solutions meant to curtail or prevent the spread of covid-19.

To this end, two students were selected for the prize. They are:

  • First Prize – Wheto Sebayi Paul (Lagos State University – LASU)
  • Second Prize – Analogbel Chibueze Chukwuma (Lagos State University – LASU)

Speaking further he said that Sidmach Technologies will also present laptop, cash and other prizes to the Best 2020 WAEC Students in Lagos State.

The recipients and their respective schools are:

  • First Prize – Miss Ugorji Kosisochukwu Irene (The Lagoon School, Lekki);
  • Second Prize – Miss Dantsoho Zainab Abubakar (The Lagoon School, Lekki) and
  • Third Prize – Miss Aderemi Temilola Victoria (Zeekay School, Agbede Olosugbo, Ikorodu) (all in Lagos State).

Meanwhile, a fellow of the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Dr Titilola Akinlade also has a Prize for the 2020 NCS Lagos Wizkid Competition winner.

He announced Divine Afam-Ifediogor of S-Tee International School, Lagos, shall receive the award.

Oladipupo highlighted that the Chapter will also be celebrating past leaders who had been awarded for their contribution to the society.

“We are celebrating these leaders because we believe in highlighting one’s achievements when he or she is still alive. They have worked tirelessly for the growth of this Chapter and NCS at large. They have added value to the IT industry in Nigeria. So, they are deserving of the celebration.

The hybrid conference will hold on Thursday November 12, 2020 at the LCCI Complex, Alausa and Virtual platforms; starting 10:00am WAT.
