MTN Nigeria has spoken about the integration of Subscriber Information Module (SIM) cards with National Identity Number (NIN) extended by the federal government.
Recall that Isa Pantami, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy had issued an order that phone users should link their NIN with their SIM registration data, or stand the risk of being cut off in a two-week grace ending December 30, this year.
In a statement issued by MTN Group CEO, Ralph Mupita, Africa’s largest telecom firm said it will continue to work with the authorities in Nigeria to progress NIN enrollment and linking of our subscriber details with the NIN database.
The statement read: “We welcome the deadline extension, and continue to work with the authorities in Nigeria to progress NIN enrollment and linking of our subscriber details with the NIN database.
“MTN’s efforts of bringing in new registration machines that can do NIN enrollment will be augmented and accelerated by our ability to directly link the NIN records of our subscribers to their SIM registration data.
“We will continue to work with the Ministerial task force in order to further establish implementation processes and timelines for execution.”
