Unboxing ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA:
Asus has again displayed ingenuity in the design of ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA. The ultrabook is soothing to the eye. The chassis and lids of ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 is made of aluminum alloy with Pine Grey color and the unique asymmetric-circle ZenBook finish is featured on the lids, presenting a surface that is soothing and sophisticated in appearance.
ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 weighs only 1.3 kg and features a profile of less than 14 mm, which results in a sleek form factor that’s easy to carry.
Although a larger screen would have been better, the thicker bezels are advantageous as they help absorb more heat when using the ultrabook in laptop mode and make it easier to handle when used in tablet mode. Switching to tablet mode, this is a feature that you will highly appreciate when using the convertible to watch videos or make a presentation.
As a convertible, the ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA features an exclusive 360° ErgoLift system that elevates the laptop; the screen and the typing area. This creative design allows for more airflow; hence, keeping the laptop cool at all times. In addition, the hinges used in the Ergolift system are pretty sturdy, helping to keep the ultrabook’s screen at setup when being used in laptop mode.
But, what appears as a tiny disadvantage with this design is that the hinges tend to rest on the surface once the screen is tilted beyond 120 degrees. The sharp edges on the hinges might become a problem, especially when using the laptop on delicate surfaces that may be vulnerable to scratching.
With edge-to-edge full-sized, backlit keyboard, this ultrabook gives room for a 19.05mm pitch, which allows more comfort and accuracy while typing, even in tight spaces. On the other hand, the backlit keyboard makes it convenient for users to type in dark or poorly-lit spaces, such as during flights. In addition, the keyboard has dish-shaped keys with a 1.4mm travel distance. This allows for better feedback and improves the overall typing experience such as during flights.
Beneath the keyboard and centred on the chassis is the clickpad that is equipped with the Number Pad functionality and precision drivers. We found a sensor on the top right of the touchpad, which allows you to turn the NumberPad on and off. Also, an icon on the top left of the trackpad allows you to choose between brightness levels. Isn’t that awesome!
ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA comes with independent function keys – Home, Page Up, Page Down, and End functional keys.
What makes this special is that this allows users to perform functions with one hand. In other words, it does not require you to also press the Fn key. This improves efficiency for activities such as reading or scanning documents.
The Hotkeys and Fn key – The Ultrabook has extra-useful Hotkeys & Fn key with a lock option. In other words, you can capture any part of the screen with a single tap, easily switch the webcam off, or lock the system in an instant for extra privacy.
The ZenBook Flip 13 UX363 also includes an Fn key with a lock option, allowing users to quickly switch between hotkey functions or general F1-F12 key functions by pressing the Fn + Esc keys at the same time. It also includes a built-in LED light on the Fn key to indicate when the general F1-F12 functions are enabled. When the light is turned off, the hotkey functions are enabled.
Exclusive ASUS NumberPad 2.0 – ZenBook Flip 13 is available with NumberPad 2.0, an LED-illuminated numeric keypad integrated in the touchpad that makes up for the lack of physical numeric keypads in compact laptops.
A single-touch sensor at the top-right of the touchpad turns NumberPad on and off, and a tap on the icon at the top left lets you choose one of two brightness levels. You can also swipe from the top left icon in any direction on the NumberPad 2.0 to activate the Calculator app on the main display.
It gives you a productive way to enter numbers, solving the age-old problem of the lack of a numeric keypad on compact laptops. With NumberPad, you can quickly perform data entry or calculations, and in Touchpad mode the glass covering provides super-smooth and precise fingertip control with multitouch gesture support.
Our ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA test model has an 11th Generation Intel Core Processors and Intel Iris X e graphics. With such high-performance processor, you are sure of easy-to-multitask and to operate high-demanding loads while extending the battery life. If you look at it from another angle, the Intel Iris X e graphics makes the machine suitable for designers and artists who handle a wide range of graphic-intensive tasks.
It also came with 8 GB LPDDR4X 4266 MHz. However, this model has up to 16 GB LPDDR4X 4266 MHz. In addition, the laptop comes with an SSD capacity of up to 1TB. Evidently, the CPU and memory are soldered on the motherboard; hence, you will not be able to upgrade it, but on the bright side, you can always upgrade the laptop’s storage with a bigger M.2 PCIe x4 drive.
ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA has a touchscreen with a 13.3-inch panel that affords you 1920 x 1080 FHD OLED resolutions and 100% sRGB colour coverage. This screen also allows for 300 units of brightness and enables you to adjust to a number of viewing angles.
We found out that while the screen is excellent in all fonts, there is one major drawback; the glossy screen is not suitable for bright environments; thus, the laptop is mostly suitable for indoors.
Still on screen, ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA has WiFi Stabilizer. What is the need? So, in order to achieve extremely thin screen bezels, many laptops, especially those in the range of ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA now place the WiFi antennas under the keyboard area. However, this location houses many high-frequency hardware components, which can generate a lot of electromagnetic noise that interferes with WiFi signals.
Yes, the OEM stepped up effort by not only adding noise reduction technology to reduce USB 3.2 signal interference, but also introduced a metamaterial filter that isolates electromagnetic noise radiating from the USB 3.2 ports. To ensure the Wi-Fi transmission performance remains stable and consistent.
We understand that Harman Kardon certified the audio system of the new ZenBook Flip series to ensure the very best sound for all kinds of content. Enjoy the louder volumes, rich depth and surround effects compared to other laptops of a similar size.
Volume-enhancing smart amplifier – The speakers of ZenBook Flip 13 is driven by a smart amplifier chip that automatically allows the maximum volume possible while preventing long-term damage to the sensitive voice coils of the speakers.
AI Noise-Canceling Audio:
If you are a business traveler or a remote worker, then remote conferencing is increasingly common. Voice quality is important for efficiency and clear communication, so the ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA features an ASUS AI Noise-Canceling Audio, which ensures that users can hear and be heard clearly in any scenario. The ClearVoice Mic function page lets user select from one of four modes: Normal, Balance, Single presenter or Multi-presenter
ZenBook Flip 13 UX363EA comes with a 67Wh battery that makes it sufficient to be used all day long on a single charge. We tested the battery life when typing, watching movies, and streaming YouTube videos with the screen brightness set at 60% and found the battery to last over 13 hours.
Also, we found that charging the laptop to its full capacity takes just 2 hours. This is very convenient, especially for people who work very busy schedules or work in the field with no access to charging stations.
The left side of this ultrabook features two Thunderbolt 4 USB-C ports; each Thunderbolt 4 port can support up to 40 Gbps data bandwidth and dual 4K or single 8K display output, and it also can support the new USB 4.0 standard for exceptional compatibility.
In addition, ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 also offers a standard HDMI 1.4 port, and a USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A port. This makes it possible for ASUS ZenBook Flip 13 to easily output to a 60Hz 4K display, connect to storage devices or expand connections.
Our test unit also came with a dongle that can be used to extend one of these ports into a 3.5mm audio jack. On the right hand of the laptop is a USB Type-A 3.2 Gen.1 port. On the right hand is also the power button with clicky feedback.
