FG commends Startup for developing Helpio App for sexual abuse reporting

The Federal Government of Nigeria has given commendations to a startup that initiated and developed an app for the reporting of sexual abuse called ‘Helpio App’.

On behalf of the FG under the administration of, President Muhammadu Buhari, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Ibrahim Pantami on Monday officially presented the letter of commendation to the founder of Shamrock Innovation Hub, Miss Sa’adat Aliyu.

Shamrock Innovations is a Women and youth centric innovation Hub in Kano providing space for women & youth to Collaborate, Innovate, Explore, Create and Provide solutions in Business and Technology.

Shamrock Innovations supports members through Education, Mentoring, and Collaboration, while the office environment gives them access to professional, productive space where they can grow a prosperous business, built on the foundation of a powerful community.

The commendation was in recognition of the app developed by Miss Aliyu, (Helpio App) which is aimed at assisting in reporting sexual abuses.

Miss Aliyu was officially presented with the letter in a brief ceremony held at the Communications and Digital Economy Complex, Abuja.

The Minister, Dr Pantami further directed the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) to liaise with the young startup, mentor her, monitor her progress and support the system under the stipulated regulation.

He applauded the initiative, stressing that ICT innovation and entrepreneurship is the way forward in wealth creation and providing the solutions to problems affecting society.

Helpio Mobile App provides a safe space for children and Adults to help report abuse, with partnership with NGO’s multi-disciplinary response team comprising Counsellors, Lawyers, Medics, and Advocates providing counselling, medical evaluations, court preparation, emergency shelter, which will lead to more disclosures of abuse, less trauma, changed attitudes and more successful prosecutions.

Victims and their Guardians can talk to experts, get more information about Sexual Abuse, report abuse, share stories or find nearest help centres
