In continuation of its efforts to support Mobile Number Operators (MNOs) in substantially improve on mobile broadband deployment, Enextgen Wireless Limited, carried out a performance monitoring of 4G LTE coverage in select National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camps.
A National Youth Service Corps year starts with a 3-week orientation course and it is compulsory for all Nigeria graduates mobilised for national service. Most people mobilised for the scheme are fresh undergraduates among whom are those leaving their locality for another part of the country for the first time.
Therefore, connectivity is paramount for them who wish to stream activities at the camp to their loved ones.
Others leverage the NYSC year to launch their entrepreneurial journey. Be it as it may, connectivity has become a fundamental human right as supported by the United Nations.
Enextgen’s proprietary Emetrics is locally-developed platform for deployment and ongoing performance monitoring and optimization of 4G LTE networks in Nigeria.
The company deployed the apparatuses in few camps. The tested NYSC orientation camps are:
- One in Sokoto
- One in Lagos
- One in Ekiti
- One in Osun
Speaking on reasons for monitoring of 4G LTE coverage in these camps, the Engineer Adeyemi Adeyeye, chairman Enext Wireless Inc., said “In each case, we have found adequate LTE coverage from either Glo or MTN, the two networks we have evaluated at the camps. We ran the latest tests on MTN network during the NYSC session that ended on 8/16/2021 at Ise-Orun camp in Ekiti.
“You cannot improve what you don’t measure”
“We have the local capacity to measure the quality of broadband mobile networks in Nigeria.
“We should not wait for foreign companies or rely on global reports such as from Rootmetrics and similar others which are mostly irrelevant to the the unique Nigerian situation. We should not rely on the pronouncements of our suppliers for the quality of the products / services that we are receiving.
“It is encouraging that broadband internet access is available at the camps”, he said.

“By subscribing to our public Emetrics platform, mobile network operators in Nigeria can make the quality of their LTE networks visible to the public in all covered areas.
“The UE log for the current study and all others are available at our proprietary emetrics platform. This allows interested mobile network operators to enhance the performance of their network using the data we have already collected”, Engr. Adeyeye added.
