APPLY: FTxSDG $580,000+ challenge for impact-driven entrepreneurs in emerging markets

In partnership with Seedstars, the Financial Times has organised the FTxSDG Challenge to empower innovative individuals and startups.

The goal is to ensure impact-driven entrepreneurs and startups in emerging markets achieve their vision, leveraging the competition as a bedrock.

Based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, the programme involves several challenges in which selected participants will have to scale through to the final phase.

The programme is focused on SDG themes such as gender equality, climate action, quality education; sponsored by the School of Management Fribourg (HEG-FR), good jobs and economic growth, reduced inequalities, good health and wellbeing.

Participants will be allowed to work with their team for a month in order to submit a pitch on their assigned SDG topic. Proposed solutions have to be based on real challenges for the various themes.


Startup companies will receive the following prizes:

  • Short track to Seedstars Investor Fund: investment size of $500,000

  • Free participation to the three months Seedstars Growth Programme: value of $80,000

Both individuals and startups will receive the following:

  • Mentorship session after the challenge with Financial Times senior leadership team

  • Free access to $49,000 worth of discounts and perks from over 50 tools, including AWS, Hubspot, Miro, Twilio and more

  • Certificates and Awards

  • Feature in the post-event FT PR piece and in the FT Talent Newsletter

  • Pitches will be featured on the FT Talent website as part of

  • Access to exclusive masterclasses, guest panels and networking opportunities

  • Access to international mentors and the opportunity to connect to a global community of impact-driven investors

Through the FTxSDG Challenge, entrepreneurs will receive the opportunity to accelerate their startups to the next level. Investment Readiness Sessions, masterclasses and workshops are included in the programme, kick-starting the pitching competition.
