Dr Bayero Agabi, one of Africa leading ICT broadcasters, has described Engineer Aleogho Dokpesi as a serial innovator whose impact is felt positively in both the media and the technology ecosystem.
Speaking to journalists at the lecture to honour ‘DOKPESI at 70’ Bayero said it’s not news that Raymond Dokpesi paved ways for digital and 24 hours broadcasting in Nigeria but it’s also important to note his role in the ICT sector.
For instance, Dokpesi is among the pioneer members of the Association of Telecommunications Companies of Nigeria (ATCON).
He also had a license for internet service provision called DAAR Net. You will also recall that he also encouraged the first ICT and Tech Show in Nigeria, a programme that has long become AFRICAs leading tech show with well over 100 awards and the only one to have won the prestigious UNECA award twice for balanced report and research .
Infact, writing the history of broadcasting, media and tech in Nigerian will not be complete without Raymond Dokpesi’s name mentioned.
He is a fellow of the Nigeria Society of Engineers and also played a role at the last national conference especially on the tech committee.
At the lecture themed ‘Technology, a missing link to AFRICAs development’ Dr Bayero Agabi said Dokpesi is a disruptor and an innovator and a pride of Africa.
The event was attended and chaired by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria; Peter Obi, former governor of Anambra; Timi Alaibe, Senators from National Assembly and dignitaries from both the public and private sectors of Nigeria economy.
