The stage is set as Wikimedia Anambra Network, of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria gears up for its one-year anniversary celebration/Awareness of Wikimedia in Anambra State.

The two-day event will begin with a virtual celebration today, Tuesday, 26th September, and end with an in-person session on Wednesday, 27th September, at the prestigious Ekwueme Center for Multidisciplinary Research, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.

The Wikimedia Anambra Network, a dynamic community dedicated to promoting open knowledge and digital literacy in Anambra State, Nigeria was established on September 24, 2022, under the umbrella of Wikimedia User Group Nigeria, the mother organization for Wikimedia Groups in Nigeria.

Over the past year, the network has made significant contributions to open knowledge in various domains, including climate, environment, women, health, governance, and politics. These also include actively promoting digital literacy, organizing programs in communities, tertiary institutions, and civil society organizations within the State.

The network has also fostered collaborations with government agencies like the Anambra ICT Agency and other organizations, enhancing the visibility of Anambra State on a global scale.

Notably, the Wikimedia Anambra Network received special recognition for having the most participants at the Naija Office Hour (July Edition) and have also produced members who won full sponsorships to international wikimedia events in Singapore, Morocco and India.

The anniversary event aims to showcase and celebrate the amazing journey of Wikimedia Anambra Network from its inception till date, as well as create awareness and re-introduce the Wikimedia Network to the people of Anambra State, while bringing their activities into the digital world.

It also aims to celebrate sustainability by commemorating one year of dedicated work in fostering knowledge sharing and digital literacy.

Highlights of the event will include acknowledgment, recognition, and bonding with collaborators who have contributed to the network’s success, cultural performances to reflect the rich heritage of Anambra State, welcoming of new members into the Wikimedia Anambra Network family and Raffle Draw: Everyone is a winner, amongst other exciting updates.

This anniversary celebration marks a new beginning for the Wikimedia Anambra Network, with renewed focus, goals, and a mission to showcase Anambra State and its stakeholders on the world’s largest encyclopedia.
