Meta has reduced the prices of its mixed reality (MR) headset, Quest 2, and accompanying accessories.
This decision follows the launch of the Meta Quest 3 about three months ago, which commenced at a starting price of $499.99 for the 128GB version.
In a statement, Meta noted its commitment to making virtual reality (VR) more accessible to a broader audience, leading to a permanent price cut on the Quest 2 and its accessories effective January 1. The 128GB Quest 2 will now be available at $249.99, while the 256GB version will be priced at $299.99. Additionally, refurbished units will see a reduction in prices to $229.99 and $269.99 for the 128GB and 256GB Quest 2 SKUs, respectively.
Not limited to the headset, Meta has extended the price adjustments to Quest 2 accessories. The company highlights the role played by Quest 2 in bringing VR into the mainstream, setting the stage for the mass-market appeal of mixed-reality headsets.
Meta’s content ecosystem has over 500 titles, including the recent popular release of Asgard’s Wrath 2. Despite the price cut on the Quest 2, Meta continues to strengthen its VR offerings, evident in the September launch of the Quest 3, featuring a 30% enhancement in visual resolution and a 40% louder audio range compared to the Quest 2.
This move by Meta follows a trend observed in June, when the company reduced the Quest 2 price to $299.99 after unveiling the Quest 3. The recent permanent price cuts may encourage consumers to explore VR by opting for the more affordable Quest 2 instead of investing $500 in the newer Quest 3.
With a diverse gaming library exceeding 500 titles and significant collaborations, such as the partnership with Roblox, Meta remains a key player in the dynamic virtual reality sector.
