Nigerian, Professor Ganiyu Adesola Aderounmu of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Centre Leader of the World Bank Sponsored Africa Centre of Excellence: Obafemi Awolowo University ICT-Driven Knowledge Park (OAK-Park), was recently honoured with the Award of Africa Outstanding Scholar of the Year on Technology.
Prof. Aderounmu, a former President, Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) was honoured on the 6th of April, 2024, by the Global Skills Hub, United Kingdom, during the 2nd Africa Education Summit that focused on the theme “Entrepreneurship and Skills Development in the 21st Century Education System: The Africa-European Perspectives.”
The summit which aimed to foster dialogue, collaboration, and innovative approaches to education across continents was hosted at the prestigious University of Nottingham in the United Kingdom. In addition to the award ceremony, the summit delved into strategies for equipping students with essential skills and fostering an entrepreneurial mindset.
The event also provided a platform for African and European educators, policymakers, and stakeholders to exchange ideas, share best practices, and build partnerships.
In addition, the Summit held the prestigious certification by the CPD Certification Services, ensuring the value of participants’ engagement.
The summit attracted a diverse range of attendees, including:
- University Leaders: Vice-Chancellors, Deans, and faculty members;
- Educational Institutions: Representatives from universities, polytechnics, colleges of education, secondary schools, and primary schools;
- Government Officials: Policymakers and legislators;
- Students: Both undergraduate and graduate students, and
- Union Leaders: Advocates for education and labour rights.
