The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a disclaimer regarding a fraudulent online portal advertising job opportunities on behalf of the Council.
The website falsely claims to offer positions for adhoc staff, such as supervisors and invigilators, for the upcoming West African Senior School Examination (WASSCE) for School Candidates in 2024.
According to WAEC, the advertisement did not originate from the Council, and it strongly condemns the actions of individuals behind the fake job advert.
“The Council would like to state categorically that the advert did not emanate from us and thereby disassociates itself from the fake job advert being circulated by unscrupulous individuals whose schemes are to defraud unsuspecting job-seekers.”
The Council emphasized that the selection of supervisors is the responsibility of various Ministries of Education, while schools appoint invigilators for the examination.
“On the other hand, invigilators are appointed by schools that present candidates for the examination.”
In line with its focus on ethical practices, WAEC asserted that it never solicits monetary compensation from job applicants in exchange for employment opportunities.
Any individual engaging with the fraudulent website or similar platforms, other than WAEC’s official website does so at their own risk.
The Council clarified that it is not currently conducting any recruitment activities and assures stakeholders that legitimate job openings are exclusively advertised through reputable channels, including daily newspapers, WAEC Nigeria’s official website, and official social media platforms.
WAEC warned against deceptive practices and urged individuals involved in such schemes to cease their activities immediately. The Council expressed appreciation to stakeholders for their continued trust and reaffirmed its loyalty to providing transparent services to Nigerian students.
The disclaimer was issued by the Public Affairs Department of WAEC and signed by Moyosola F. Adesina, Acting Head of Public Affairs, on behalf of the Head of National Office.
“We express gratitude to our esteemed stakeholders for continuously placing trust in us. The Council remains steadfast in its dedication to rendering unparalleled and transparent services to the Nigerian child.”
