MTN Nigeria has officially rolled out its bold new “From Africa, for Africa” Startup Accelerator Programme, signaling a major leap forward in empowering the continent’s innovation ecosystem.
With a ₦100 million grant pool, the 12-week programme is designed to elevate growth-stage startups across fintech, agritech, healthtech, edtech, AI, e‑commerce, and cybersecurity sectors.
According to Lynda Saint‑Nwafor, enterprise business officer, MTN Nigeria, this initiative is not just another accelerator—it’s “a launchpad to greatness.”
🌍 Built for African Innovators
The programme targets startups with working products—especially those addressing needs in under‑served and rural communities. Participants will benefit from:
- Deep integration with MTN’s telco and cloud infrastructure
- Expert mentorship and technical advisory support
- Go‑to‑market assistance and connections to venture capital investors
- A “Demo Day” showcase for startups to pitch accomplishments before investors and media
- Ongoing support via pilot projects and membership in MTN’s alumni network
Lynda emphasized the initiative’s ambition:
“We’re here to fuel Africa’s digital future by equipping risk-takers, builders, and disruptors with everything they need to scale.”
🗓️ Program Timeline & Structure
- Applications open July 2, 2025
- Launch in September 2025
- Week 1 & Week 12: In-person sessions in Lagos
- Weeks 2–11: Virtual workshops, product sprints, and progress check-ins—all seamlessly integrated with MTN’s ecosystem
🔗 Expanding MTN’s Tech Ecosystem
This accelerator builds on MTN’s existing digital impact efforts, including its ₦3 billion commitment to the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, which has already trained over 90,000 Nigerians in digital skills.
By combining infrastructure, mentorship, and financial support, MTN aims to close the gap between urban and rural tech access—ensuring that innovative solutions emerge from all corners of Nigeria.
🌱 Why It Matters
This accelerator isn’t a one-off—it’s a strategic investment in Africa’s future:
- Empowering startups with capital and access to MTN’s telecom and cloud networks
- Bridging urban-rural divide through tech-driven inclusivity
- Fostering innovation ecosystems that tackle real-world African challenges
- Building long-term relationships through MTN’s alumni network and pilot opportunities
🎯 What’s Next
“MTN will select its first cohort in September 2025, and we’re expecting a diverse group of trailblazers aiming to turn bold ideas into scalable businesses”, the MTN Enterprise Business Officer assured.
As the MTN Startup Accelerator programme unfolds, updates from Demo Day and participating startups will shine a spotlight on Africa’s homegrown innovators.
This accelerator underscores MTN’s ambition not just to connect people—but to enable African-led change through tools, talent, and tenacity.
