Train from Kaduna was involved in a violent rail incident, leaving several passengers with varying degrees of injuries.
The disruption, which occurred mid-journey, forced the service to a temporary halt and has raised fresh concerns regarding safety protocols on one of Nigeria’s busiest rail corridors.
Panic as Loud Bang Rocks Coaches
According to eyewitness accounts from those on board, the train was traveling toward the Federal Capital Territory when a sudden, violent jolt threw passengers from their seats.
Reports indicate the train collided with another locomotive along the corridor, leading to a loud bang that sent shockwaves through the coaches.
Sada Malumfashi, a passenger who shared his experience on X (formerly Twitter), described a scene of confusion and injury.
“We heard a loud bang, and the train jolted to a stop, flinging people across. Passengers got hit, and most are bleeding and severely injured,” he noted, adding that the train remained stationary for approximately 30 minutes before slowly resuming its journey toward Kubwa.
Casualties and NRC Response
While the exact number of casualties has not been officially confirmed, multiple reports suggest that several commuters sustained cuts, bruises, and other injuries after being flung against metal fittings and seat frames inside the compartments.
A source within the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed the development.
Furthermore, NRC spokesperson Callistus Unyimadu acknowledged the incident and stated that an official press release would be issued to provide further details on the cause of the collision and the state of the affected passengers.
Impact on Rail Operations
The incident caused significant delays on the Abuja-Kaduna line, a critical infrastructure link for thousands of daily commuters.
While the train eventually reached the outskirts of Abuja, passengers expressed frustration over a perceived lack of immediate communication from rail authorities during the crisis.
Techeconomy will continue to monitor this story as the NRC provides updates on the technical cause of the collision and the safety measures being implemented to prevent a recurrence.
