This Is Nigeria, a community-driven storytelling platform, has officially announced the launch of “The 36: Nigeria Unscripted,” a groundbreaking travel and documentary series aimed at reshaping how Nigeria is perceived both locally and globally.
For decades, Nigeria’s story has often been told through external lenses or narratives that fail to fully capture the country’s depth, resilience, and innovation.
This Is Nigeria is changing that by placing storytelling power back in the hands of Nigerians, amplifying authentic voices, lived experiences, and the realities that define the nation.
At the core of this initiative is a simple but powerful mission: to transform global perceptions of Nigeria by spotlighting the positive, impactful stories of its people, culture, and progress.
“The 36: Nigeria Unscripted” will journey across all 36 states of the federation, beginning with a pilot season in Lagos. The series offers a deep exploration of each state’s history, culture, economic potential, and human capital, while highlighting individuals driving innovation, entrepreneurship, scientific advancement, and cultural evolution.
Speaking on the launch, Founder of This Is Nigeria, Ikenna Ani, said:
“For too long, Nigeria’s story has been told for us, not by us. The 36: Nigeria Unscripted is about reclaiming that narrative—showing the world the ingenuity, resilience, and excellence that define Nigerians every day. This is not just a travel series; it is a movement to inspire pride at home and reshape perception globally.”
The Journey Begins in Lagos
The series kicks off in Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial and cultural hub. Over the coming weeks, the production team will be on ground capturing the city’s dynamic energy, its people, industries, creativity, and innovation, in a raw and immersive format that reflects real-life experiences.
Introducing the Global Desk
In addition to the series, This Is Nigeria is launching a Global Desk, a dedicated platform to spotlight Nigerians in the diaspora who are making significant contributions across industries worldwide.
The initiative seeks to connect local and global narratives, reinforcing the far-reaching impact of Nigerian excellence.
A Different Kind of Storytelling
Unlike traditional travel content that either glosses over reality or focuses solely on challenges, This Is Nigeria adopts a balanced and authentic approach.
The platform goes beyond surface-level storytelling to showcase the passion, effort, and ingenuity driving success across the country.
