Passengers arriving at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos have recently had to navigate more than just flight schedules.
Ongoing construction works around the airport have brought a new set of challenges, from confusing signage and limited lifts to shuttle bus delays and concerns over airside markings.
For airline operators, these issues have increasingly become a source of concern, affecting both operational efficiency and the overall passenger experience.
Recognising the need for closer collaboration, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) convened a meeting with members of the International Airlines Association of Nigeria (IAAN) to address the growing concerns and identify practical solutions.
The engagement, led by Henry Agbebire, director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at FAAN, brought together airline representatives and airport officials for what became a candid discussion on the realities facing operators and travellers amid the ongoing airport upgrade projects.
Agbebire explained that the session was designed not only to strengthen the working relationship between FAAN’s Department of Protocol and Passages and airline operators, but also to provide a platform for stakeholders to openly discuss operational challenges affecting service delivery.
During the meeting, airline representatives highlighted several issues requiring urgent attention. These included inadequate directional signage around construction zones, insufficient lift facilities, shuttle bus constraints, and concerns over airside ramp markings impacted by ongoing construction activities.
Operators also called for additional measures to improve customer experience across the airport environment.
The discussions underscored the delicate balance between modernising critical airport infrastructure and maintaining seamless operations for airlines and passengers.
Responding to the concerns, Agbebire assured stakeholders that all observations and complaints raised during the session would be carefully reviewed.
He noted that FAAN remains committed to improving operational standards and ensuring that infrastructure upgrades do not come at the expense of passenger comfort or airline efficiency.
As airport modernisation projects continue across the country, the meeting reflects a broader effort by FAAN to engage industry stakeholders and address operational bottlenecks before they escalate into larger service delivery challenges.
