Enugu Set to Train 200 Students on Hardware Engineering

Enugu State Government has concluded plans to empower 200 secondary school students on hardware engineering in the state.

The Enugu Hardware Engineering Programme is coordinated by the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, through the Office of the Governor on Innovation, Science and Technology led by the Special Assistant, Engr. Elvis Obi-Nwankwo.

Engr. Nwankwo said the state is doing everything possible to diversify the State’s economy through the empowerment of young persons in the hardware industry in the State.

The SA had in a media interview disclosed that “the initiative being championed by the State Governor, Ifeanyi Lawrence Ugwuanyi, will help prepare the young students for the labour market, equipping them with numerous skills to build, develop and sustain the country’s hardware industry”.

Nwankwo, who cited negligence of the country’s hardware space as the major reason for Nigerians growing unemployment rate, insisted that the hardware Industry which powers the production and manufacturing ecosystem in the country is seriously suffering which is why most companies in the country are shutting down due to high cost of operations in Nigeria.

The SA to the Enugu State Governor insisted that research has proven that the country’s hardware industry if properly explored can drastically reduce the unemployment rate in the country by over 20%.

A statement from the SA to the Enugu State Governor on Innovation, Science and Technology, Engr. Elvis Obi-Nwankwo, said the programme is in partnership with Innovation Factory Tech Hub and Hardware Garage.

The programme, which is focused on past SS3 students around the State, is set to commence by mid-August 2022. 

The programme which comes in four cohorts will have the students divided into different areas of interest for the three-month period.

The students are to deliver a proof of concept prototype on different project work which will be funded by the Garage.

They will learn electronics and embedded technology designs such as:

  • Design and Fabrication of Professional Electronics Equipments
  • Design and Manufacture of Professional Electronics Equipments
  • Design and Assembly of PowerBanks, Inverters, Power Packs and Power Electronics
  • Design and Fabrications of Electronics Circuit boards
  • Design and construction of Audio amplifiers, Auto changeovers
