Skill acquisition is one of the guaranteed strategies to conquering the surge of unemployment, Brigadier-General Mohammed Kuka Fadah, Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has said.

Available data indicate that in 2022, the unemployment rate in Nigeria is estimated to reach 33 percent. This figure was projected to be at 32.5 percent in the preceding year.

The NYSC DG tasked new graduates to avail themselves of opportunities for self-employment offered through the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programs while acknowledging that there is a shortage of white collared jobs after graduation.

He advised the youth corps members in Osun State to choose from several skill areas that they will be exposed to during their orientation course in the camp.

“See your deployment to Osun State as part of a deliberate policy aimed at promoting national unity and integration which will enable you to have a broader understanding of the country.”

According to Fadah, deployment will promote the culture of working together in an atmosphere of friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.

“Your deployment away from your states of origin and your being in the camp from diverse ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds are part of our deliberate policies aimed at promoting national unity and integration.

“These will enable you to have a broader understanding of the country, and promote the culture of working together in an atmosphere of friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.

“I am impressed by the high level of discipline and enthusiasm you have demonstrated so far. It is my hope that you will sustain these while you also familiarize yourselves with the provisions of the NYSC Act and the NYSC Bye-Laws.”
