Adobe has officially launched a mobile version of its popular design software, Photoshop, making it available for iPhone users.ย
The company also confirmed that an Android version is in the works and will be released later this year.
The app provides both free and premium features, allowing users to edit images with tools similar to those found in the desktop version, such as layering and masking.ย
Designed with a user-friendly interface, the mobile app also integrates with Photoshop on the web for those who subscribe to the premium plan, which costs $7.99 per month. Existing Photoshop subscribers will have access to the mobile version at no additional cost.
With this expansion, Adobe aims to attract a younger, mobile-first audience that primarily creates content on their smartphones. โWe spent a lot of time talking to creatives and creators, especially the new generation of creators who are very comfortable with phones, and tried to understand their unique use cases on mobile devices,โ said Shambhavi Kadam, senior director of Product Management at Adobe Photoshop.ย
โAnd we took that feedback and built it into the product to make sure that it worked really well for these users.โ
The app includes essential Photoshop tools such as selections, layers, and masks. Free users can also access AI-powered features like the โSpot Healing Brushโ for quick image retouching and โTap Selectโ to remove, recolour, or replace parts of an image. Additionally, they can use generative AI tools, including โGenerative Fillโ and โGenerative Expand,โ powered by Adobe Firefly.
Premium subscribers will gain access to advanced features like โObject Selectโ for precise selections, โMagic Wandโ for isolating elements, and โContent-Aware Fillโ for seamless background adjustments. They can also use over 20,000 fonts and import additional typefaces to enhance their designs.
The introduction of Photoshop for iPhone places Adobe in direct competition with popular mobile editing apps such as Snapseed, Picsart, and Canva. It also benefits existing Photoshop users by enabling seamless editing across devices, from mobile to desktop.
Demand for creative tools that work on the go and mobile content creation is increasing, hence, the need for Adobeโs expansion. This ensures that users have access to professional-grade editing tools without being tied to a desktop setup. Photoshop for iPhone is now available for download on the Apple App Store.
