Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched AWS Security Incident Response, designed to enhance the way businesses handle cybersecurity threats.

With cyberattacks growing more sophisticated, companies are mostly unable to implement effective incident response, making this new service a timely addition to the cybersecurity space.

The service addresses a huge gap in the industry, where only 60% of organisations reportedly have a formal incident response plan, and even fewer conduct regular drills to maintain readiness.

With global cyberattack damages projected to surge from $8.4 trillion in 2022 to over $23 trillion by 2027, efficient incident response mechanisms are more important than before.

Features and Functionality

AWS Security Incident Response leverages automation and integration to assist businesses in managing security events such as account takeovers, ransomware attacks, and data breaches.

The service integrates findings from Amazon GuardDuty, a threat detection platform, and supported third-party tools, allowing for a consolidated view of incidents.

Using a centralised dashboard, organisations can adjust alert settings, manage account permissions, and review metrics such as average resolution times.

Security teams can also access self-service tools and 24/7 support from AWS’s specialised Customer Incident Response Team (CIRT), ensuring expert assistance during critical moments.

One great feature is the assertive incident response-ability, which automates the sorting and remediation of security findings based on predefined parameters and customer-specific data.

For unresolved issues, the service generates security cases, promptly notifying relevant stakeholders for further action.

Why It Stands Out

Unlike standalone products from other incident response providers, AWS Security Incident Response provides seamless integration with the entire AWS ecosystem.

This compatibility provides existing AWS users with a more convenient and cohesive solution. Again, the service supports third-party vendors, giving organisations flexibility in tailoring their response strategies.

The dashboard also provides insights, including key performance indicators like mean time to resolution and the number of closed cases, enabling businesses to evaluate and make better their security postures over time.

Availability and Adoption

AWS Security Incident Response is now accessible in 12 AWS regions, including North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. The PGA Tour is among the early adopters, as high-profile organisations greatly require such service.

With the global incident response market projected to grow from $21.6 billion in 2023 to $89 billion by 2030, AWS’s new service could prove highly lucrative.
