Tony Izuagbe Emoekpere, has been elected the new president of the Association of Telecommunication Companies of Nigeria (ATCON).
Mr. Emoekpere, the CEO of Anchor Telecom won received 39 votes to defeat Ibrahim Dikko, the CEO of Backbone Connectivity Network, who got 23 votes.
The new president takes over from Engineer Ikechukwu Nnamani, the immediate past President.
Other elected officials of ATCON at the Annual General Meeting held today at Oriental Hotels, Lagos, are;
Mr. Muhammed Rudman, the CEO of the Internet Exchange Point of Nigeria (IXPN) polled 43 votes to emerge the first Vice President. He defeated Dr. Mike Ofili who received 21 votes.
Mr. Ejikeme Azubuike Onyeaso, the Acting Assistant Director, Network Permit, IHS Nigeria Limited was elected 2nd Vice President (unopposed); Mr. Olawale Owoeye, MD/CEO, Cedarview Communications emerged the National Secretary; Mrs. Aderonke Adegbeye, CEO Comercio Limited (Coordinator, Consulting); Mr. Lekan Balogun, MD/CEO, NetaccessSystems Limited (Coordinator, Internet Service Providers); Mr. Martins Shakarho, General Manager, Corporate Interra Networks Limited (Coordinator, Value Added Services Providers), and Mr. Olabode Ojo, Director, Fibre Operations at GICL emerged the Coordinator, Infrastructure Services Providers.
In his manifesto, Mr. Emoekpere who has put in 16 years of service to ATCON at the NEC level, said his desire is to make the Association stronger and more relevant than it has been in the last 29 years by adherence to its constitutional provisions, executing its lofty aims and objectives….Details later
