The Onne Port in Rivers State will be repositioned by the federal government in order to exploit its enormous potential for export and import trade.
With its strategic location in Rivers State, Onne Port is one of the biggest oil and gas-free zones in the world.
The Minister of Transportation, Engr Mu’azu Sambo, revealed this Thursday during a three-day fact-finding mission to determine why Onne Port isn’t operating at its full potential.
“I’m here in part to investigate why the Rivers Ports are not operating. Whatever the difficulties, we will overcome them.
In order to address these issues and increase port productivity, I will consult with stakeholders and develop short-, medium-, and long-term plans, Sambo stated.
In addition, Sambo reaffirmed its commitment to repairing the crumbling access road to the Onne Port and promised that Sukuk IV would take care of the issue.
He said that in order to expedite the rehabilitation process, he would consult with his counterpart at the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.
