At the just concluded 11th Annual National Council on Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy (NCCIDE), Nigeria’s leading Digital Infrastructure Company provider, Galaxy Backbone (GBB) Limited showcased its services and possibilities of the benefits of its Infrastructure for all the 36 states of the Federation and its crucial role in driving Nigeria’s Digital Future.

The NCCIDE Conference is an annual event organised by the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation And Digital Economy that brings together Permanent Secretaries from Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs), all Commissioners of ICT from the 36 states of the Federation, Heads of ICT Related Agencies, Directors of ICT from MDAs and key stakeholders in ICT from across the nation’s public service.

The Honourable Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani was on ground to engage and interact with all the delegates, while the Executive Governor of the host state, Kano State, His Excellency, Governor Abba Yusuf declared the Council Meeting open.

Now, Kano State is home to Galaxy Backbone’s North West Regional Office and State of the Art, Tier IV Datacentre so one of the major highlights of the Conference was the visit to this Digital Infrastructure by all the dignitaries and delegates from the different parts of the country.

It will be recalled that a leading Pan African Magazine, AFRICAN REVIEW, had in March 2023, published a story around the Galaxy Backbone Tier IV Datacentre as one of the only two, Tier IV Data centres in Sub-saharan Africa with the capabilities of providing Cloud, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity services to organizations in the public and private sector. This world class infrastructure boosts the already existing Tier III Datacentre run by GBB at the nation’s Federal Capital Territory.

All the dignitaries, which included the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy and the Executive Vice Chairman (EVC) of the Nigeria Communications Commission (NCC) were all impressed with the level of Infrastructure deployed by GBB in enhancing digital Infrastructure services and driving the importance and value of data sovereignty to the country.

Another major highlight of the NCCIDE Conference was GBB’s showcase of its high speed Fibre Optic Cables which provided Internet Connectivity for the entire 5 day Conference in Kano. GBB’s Fibre connectivity has deepened broadband penetration across the country, as it has traversed about 30 states of the federation, accounting for about 6000kilometres of Fibre and about 1600 kilometres of metro fibre in some major cities in the country.

GBB aims to partner with the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation & Digital Economy and the states in enhancing broadband penetration, hosting and colocation of data through our Cloud experience and in that way, contribute to the nation’s economic growth and development. According to GBB’s Acting Managing Director/CEO, Abdul Malik Suleiman, ‘GBB is well positioned to support and drive the digital transformation initiatives of the Honourable Minister of Communications Innovation and Digital Economy and is committed to working together to support economic growth in the country through the provision of digital infrastructure solutions and services”.

It is important to note that in the memos GBB submitted at the NCCIDE Conference, which were discussed and approved by the Council for execution. The following areas were covered; GBB’s Strategic Partnership for the Nigeria Centralised Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) Initiative, Powering Public Sector transformation through Expertise and Infrastructure; The Galaxy Cloud Platform, a Key Enabler for Nigeria’s Digital future and deepening the reach, GBB’s role in expanding National Backbone and bridging the Digital Divide.

GBB has invested in world class infrastructures that has the potential to power digital transformation initiatives and enhance the future of Nigeria digitally and support states in the creation of Internally Generated Revenue(IGR), while enhancing the economic and intellectual growth of the nation.
