Digital solutions provider Globacom has reaffirmed its commitment to Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage with the extension of its sponsorship of the Ofala Festival in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The renewed partnership will span another three years, continuing a tradition of support that began in 2011.
The 2025 Ofala Festival, a two-day customary celebration performed by His Royal Majesty, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, will feature the Iru Ofala on October 17 and the Azu Ofala on October 18.
Preceding events include the annual Ofala lecture on October 7, the Oreze Art Exhibition, the Ofala Youth Carnival on October 15, a Medical and Wellbeing Outreach, and a Royal Banquet on October 22 in honour of the Obi.
Speaking at a press conference at Ime Obi, the Obi’s Palace, Onitsha, Glo explained that its sponsorship reflects a long-standing belief in culture as a driver of economic growth, social cohesion, and national pride.
“Nigeria’s tourism sector is projected to contribute ₦11.2 trillion to GDP in 2025, up from ₦10.9 trillion in 2024. These figures highlight not just recovery but strong growth. Culture and tourism are vital to our economy, our identity, and our future,” Globacom stated.
“Our support for Ofala underscores our commitment to investing in culture, which yields returns far beyond the balance sheet by creating jobs, boosting local businesses, and strengthening communities.”
Globacom also announced that this year’s sponsorship will include special customer-focused initiatives.
These include subscriber packages designed to enhance the festival experience, alongside continued investments in network expansion and 4G-LTE upgrades across Nigeria, particularly in the South East.
In addition, Glo highlighted two recently launched offerings:
- Talkmasta – providing customers with extra talk time and data at no additional cost.
- Welcome Bonus – delivering unmatched benefits to new subscribers.
Mr. Nnaemeka Maduegbuna, chairman of the Strategic Marketing and Communications Committee, assured that all arrangements for the 2025 Ofala have been finalised with emphasis on security, visitor comfort, and a spectacular celebration of Onitsha’s cultural heritage.
Senior palace chiefs and members of the festival’s organising committee were also present at the briefing.
