Latest telecommunications industry statistics released by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) on January 1, 2023, shows that the West African country has surpassed 218 million telephony subscriptions.
TechEconomy found that in November 2022, Nigeria’s telephony subscriptions increased to 218,953,849.
This implies Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) added 4,257,622 in November 2022 when compared to 214,696,227 recorded the previous month (October).
The country opened the year with 197,499,028 subscriptions (January 2022). By implications, the telephony subscriptions in the most populous black nation increased by 23,489,951 in eleven months.
On Year-on-Year (YoY) growth, Nigeria’s telephony subscriptions increased by 25,767,524 within 12 months (November 2021-November-2022). In November 2021 the number stood at 193,186,325.
Meanwhile, Teledensity increased to 114.07 per cent in November 2022; up by 1.6 per cent when compared to 112.47 per cent recorded the precious month.
From March 2019, NCC started calculating teledensity calculated based on a population estimate of 190 million, up from 140 million.

Teledensity is defined as the number of active telephone connections per one hundred (100) inhabitants living within an area and is expressed as a percentage figure.
