Spotify is set to launch a new premium add-on tier, enhancing its services with high-fidelity audio and advanced playlist management tools for users.
This tier will cost an additional $5 per month, varying depending on the user’s base plan, but generally representing about a 40% increase.
The new option is designed as an add-on for existing customers, allowing most users to stay on their current plans while those opting for the upgrade will generate additional revenue for Spotify and its business partners.
Internally referred to as “Supremium,” this tier will include better audio quality and enhanced user capabilities such as AI-generated summaries, tools for creating playlists, and managing music libraries.
If added to the standard Spotify Premium plan, which will increase to $11.99 per month, the total cost for users would be $16.99 per month.
In addition to high-fidelity audio, the new tier will provide features like 24-bit lossless audio and the ability to create custom playlists for specific activities, dates, and times of the year.
There have been numerous hints about these features, including code found within the Spotify app that mentions “lossless has arrived” and details about lossless quality up to 2,117kbps using the FLAC format.
An April Reddit user spotted code indicating the arrival of lossless audio, and another Redditor later posted leaked UI elements mentioning the availability of 24-bit / 44.1kHz for “limited songs.”
This announcement follows Spotify’s initial plan of a HiFi audio feature in 2021, which was delayed. Reports from Bloomberg and The Wall Street Journal have since indicated ongoing development, with last year’s Bloomberg report revealing work on a higher-priced “Supremium” HiFi plan. Another report revealed the potential inclusion of a remix feature to speed up tracks within the add-on.
With this new premium tier, Spotify is enhancing core product experiences while focusing on Commercial and Enterprise applications for GPT development.
The add-on aims to simplify the user experience, making it easier to manage multiple email accounts, sort schedules, read long messages, and track orders.
The features will be available to new users in the US and roll out to existing US users on an opt-in basis starting today, with plans to extend these updates to the Yahoo Mail mobile app in the future.
