President Bola Tinubu on Thursday swore in Dr Bernard Doro and Dr Kingsley Udeh as ministers, officially bringing them into the Federal Executive Council during a ceremony held at the State House in Abuja.

The swearing-in ceremony took place Council Chamber of the State House, Abuja, before the start of the Federal Executive Council meeting.

Dr Bernard Doro, a UK-trained clinical practitioner with vast experience, is a seasoned  pharmaceutical and public health administrator.

He was earlier nominated to replace the current APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, who formerly served as minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction before emerging as the party’s chairman on July 31, 2025.

The appointments comply with the Federal Character Commission Act, as Enugu and Plateau States previously had no representation at the Federal Executive Council. Their swearing-in brings the Tinubu administration’s cabinet size to 48.

Some analysts have raised reservations about the number of ministers in the Tinubu administration. However, the appointments of Doro and Udeh are considered necessary, as both states were previously underrepresented.

Among those who have objected to government spending is the former Central Bank Governor and Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi.

Speaking at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference and Book Launch, the monarch said, “If you stop paying subsidies but continue borrowing more, it means you’ve filled one hole only to dig another. The real challenge now is the quality of government spending and the management of the revenues saved,” he said.

Dr Doro hails from Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State. According to the Presidency, he holds multiple degrees in Pharmacy, Law, and Advanced Clinical Practice.

Dr Kingsley Udeh, who served as attorney-general and the commissioner for Justice in Enugu State until his appointment, replaces Uche Nnaji, the former Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology.

Nnaji resigned on October 7, 2025, following public controversy over his academic records at the University of Nigeria, Nsuka (UNN).

After the swearing-in, the Federal Executive Meeting went into a closed session, its first since July 2025. The reason the meetings have not been held weekly, as in the previous administration, has not been made public by the Federal Government.

The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, briefed the council on Nigeria’s return to the international capital market, noting that the $2.35 billion Eurobond was oversubscribed by an all-time 453%, attracting $13 billion in orders, as reported by the Debt Management Office (DMO).

The next phase of reforms will remove barriers holding back investors. We will review tariffs and import restrictions to stimulate productivity and investment,” the Minister said.

Nigeria will this week host the United Nations’ flagship digital governance conference, ICEGOV 2025, the first time the global event will be held in West Africa.

The four-day meeting, which begins on November 4 in Abuja, is expected to gather over 400 delegates from more than 50 countries, including government officials, academics, and industry leaders.

The International Conference on Theory and Practice of Electronic Governance (ICEGOV), organised by the United Nations University (UNU-EGOV) in partnership with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), is being held under the patronage of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

This year’s theme, “Shaping the Future of Digital Governance through Cooperation, Innovation and Inclusion,” highlights the growing influence of Africa’s largest economy in global technology policy and governance.

ICEGOV has been staged in major cities including Beijing, Athens, Bogota, and Galway. Abuja now joins that list, making it the first city in West Africa, and only the second in Africa, to host the conference since its inception in 2007.

NITDA’s Director-General, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, described the event as a major endorsement of Nigeria’s leadership in digital transformation.

This moment affirms Nigeria’s place at the table of digital policy and innovation. Our guiding principle has always been to build digital systems that reflect our context, empower our people, and contribute to global progress.

“Hosting ICEGOV 2025 allows us to exchange knowledge, celebrate innovation across regions, and work together toward a more inclusive and digitally sovereign future.”

Under Abdullahi’s leadership, NITDA has become central to Nigeria’s digital strategy, driving reforms in public administration, advancing local digital skills, and strengthening international partnerships.

Earlier this year, the Agency co-hosted GITEX Nigeria, further strengthening the country’s standing as an emerging technology hub. ICEGOV 2025 builds on that, placing Abuja as a platform for dialogue on digital sovereignty, collaboration, and innovation in governance.

The programme will feature keynotes, panel sessions, and technical workshops covering digital inclusion, cybersecurity, data governance, and public-sector innovation.

Researchers will also present academic papers and participate in a doctoral colloquium, while exhibitions will showcase new solutions shaping digital public services.

Ahead of the main conference, two key side events will take place. The West African Governance Forum (WADGoV), scheduled for 3–4 November, will bring together policymakers from across the region to discuss joint efforts on digital governance and cross-border cooperation.

The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) session will focus on refining the E-Governance White Paper and strengthening indicators that guide digital transformation across the African Union.

With the world’s attention turning to Abuja this week, Nigeria’s part in enhancing Africa’s digital economy is coming into sharper focus, anchored on collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.

LG Electronics, a global leader in technology and innovation, joined the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation in the global celebration of the United Nations World Water Day by donating a solar-powered borehole to the Gudu Community in Abuja.

The theme of this year is ‘Water for Peace’, emphasizing the vital significance of water in ensuring the stability and prosperity of our world.

In situations where water is limited or contaminated, or where access is unequal or nonexistent, tensions can escalate between communities and nations. It is crucial to proactively tackle water-related issues to prevent conflicts and encourage collaboration for sustainable water management.

A series of events took place to celebrate this special day from the Peace walk around FCT to the special press conference with all the relevant partners, international NGOs, Federal Ministries representatives, and private corporations.

Speaking at the commissioning of the solar-powered borehole, Prof. Joseph Terlumun Utsev, the Minister,  said;

“We are extremely happy to celebrate yet another World Water Day with everybody and in particular with the donation of this borehole which is most significant of the celebration. The Gudu Community is grateful for this”.

“All year round we sensitize and celebrate the day to bring attention to one of the leading environmental issues, the scarcity of water.” Water is life, and we cannot even imagine our life without water. Water means a lot to us more than just quenching our thirst, but it plays the role of a vital component of human development; This day provides us an opportunity to think about this issue and how we can make a difference”

The Minister additionally said “Around 2 billion people around the world do not have access to clean and safe drinking water, and approximately 3.6 billion people – 46% of the world’s population – lack adequate sanitation services, according to a new United Nations World Water Development Report released. This is a major contributor to the spread of waterborne diseases such as cholera, typhoid, and diarrhea”

Prof. Utsev added, “In Nigeria, approximately 60 million people lack access to safe water sources, leading to numerous health challenges and impeding socio-economic development.” Hence we need to keep appealing to corporate organizations such as what LG Electronics has done today to provide good drinking water for vulnerable communities like Gudu and all across the country so we can gradually reduce the numbers”

Also at the event, Mr. Hyoung Sub Ji, the managing director, LG Electronics, thanked the Ministry for the opportunity to collaborate with them to contribute to the community.

He said the relevance of LG’s slogan cannot be over-emphasized which is “Life’s Good” With good drinking water people can live and have a good life. This is what has prompted us to do this” he said

Mr. Ji advised:

“This year, we at LG are proud to align with the theme of Water for Peace. We urge other corporate organizations to collaborate with relevant institutions in combating the scarcity of clean water, which tragically leads to the premature deaths of vulnerable children and adults nationwide. Together, through partnership and collective action, we can make a significant impact on ensuring access to safe and clean water for all. Let us work hand in hand towards a future where every individual has the basic human right to clean water, promoting health, peace, and prosperity in our communities.”

Giving a thank you speech, Alhaji Jubril Musa, the leader of the community, said, “We are very happy for this water as it solves more than half of our challenges. We will ensure we safeguard the borehole to last longer for us in the community. We thank LG Electronics and the Ministry for the gesture”

Present at the celebration are WaterAid, United Nations International Children (UNICEF), Education Fund (UNICEF), UNESCO, Action Against Hunger, Gillmor Engineering Nigeria Limited, FORDMAX Nig. Limited, CGC Nigeria Limited, Food and Agricultural Organization, (FAO), Borehole Drillers Association of Nigeria (BODAN), Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), and other relevant ministry representatives

LG Electronics continues to demonstrate its commitment to environmental sustainability and social responsibility through initiatives like this.

Clean and easily accessible water is indispensable for economic growth, public health, and environmental integrity. By giving priority to water as a means for peace, we can strive towards a more balanced and harmonious global community.
