The company says the UK is the first country outside North America to receive the service. For now, access is limited.

Customers who buy selected Echo devices will get invitations, while others can sign up and wait. Amazon plans to expand access to hundreds of thousands of users in the coming weeks.

During this early phase, Alexa+ will be free. After that, it will come at a cost of £19.99 a month for non-Prime users. Prime members will not pay for it, although Amazon has not said when the free trial period will end.

Alexa+ works across Echo devices, Fire TV, and the Alexa app. Amazon also plans to bring it to web browsers. The assistant can carry conversations across devices, so users can start a request on one and continue on another without repeating themselves.

In the UK, Amazon says it has adjusted the assistant to better understand local speech and context. It can recognise common British phrases and adapt to how people speak. The company said its Cambridge-based team worked on this using a mix of language and speech tools.

Local teams, including engineers, linguists, and speech scientists at Amazon’s Tech Hub in Cambridge, UK, have used different techniques, such as reinforcement learning, accent-neutral speech representations, and regional embeddings, to make sure Alexa+ genuinely understands British customers,” the company said.

Alexa+ also connects with services such as OpenTable, JustEat and Treatwell. Users can ask it to book restaurants, order food or arrange appointments. It can also pull in news from outlets including The Independent, The Guardian, Press Association and Future Publishing.

Amazon first introduced Alexa+ in February 2025, but its rollout has taken time. By mid-2025, access was still limited in the United States. It later expanded to all users there and added early access programmes in Canada and Mexico before reaching the UK.

The company has also added features that let users adjust how Alexa responds, including different tone options. One of those, described as “Sassy”, is restricted to adult users, though Amazon says the assistant will not support explicit content.

Amazon says Alexa+ is designed to do more than answer questions. It can complete tasks from start to finish, such as managing bookings or controlling smart home devices. Users can also review and manage their data through privacy settings in the Alexa app.

The focus is now on getting feedback from early users, with global rollout following once testing is complete.

CES 2026: Amazon Launches Alexa.com, Bringing Alexa+ to the Web https://techeconomy.ng/amazon-launches-alexa-com-online-alexa-plus/ https://techeconomy.ng/amazon-launches-alexa-com-online-alexa-plus/#respond Mon, 05 Jan 2026 15:52:45 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=173703 Amazon is taking Alexa beyond smart speakers and mobile apps. Starting Monday, Early Access users can interact with Alexa+ directly from their browsers via the new website, Alexa.com.

The company says this expansion aims to make Alexa+ available wherever people need it, at home, on their phones, and now online.

Alexa-powered devices are already global, with over 600 million units sold worldwide. But Amazon believes simply having a presence in the home isn’t enough. In moving Alexa+ online, the company aims to let anyone engage with its assistant, even if they don’t own an Echo device.

The website allows users to handle daily tasks, explore complex topics, create content, plan trips, and manage household routines. Amazon is emphasising its focus on family life. Users can update calendars, make reservations, manage shopping lists on Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods, find and save recipes, and even plan movie nights.

Alexa+ has also integrated with more third-party services, including Angi, Expedia, Square, and Yelp, joining existing apps like OpenTable, Uber, Fodor’s, Ticketmaster, and Thumbtack.

On the website, a navigation sidebar provides quick access to frequently used features like calendar appointments, shopping lists, and smart home controls.

Amazon is also encouraging users to share emails, documents, and other personal data via the web using Alexa+. The assistant can then track tasks ranging from kids’ soccer schedules to medical appointments, and even manage household reminders such as the dog’s vaccinations or community events.

This could become Alexa+’s strongest advantage, though Amazon doesn’t yet have the deep productivity ecosystem or personal data reach of competitors like Google.

Seventy-six percent of what customers are using Alexa+ for no other AI can do,” said Daniel Rausch, VP of Alexa and Echo at Amazon, in an interview with TechCrunch. “And I think that’s a really interesting statistic about Alexa+ for two reasons. One, because customers count on Alexa to do unique things.

“You know, you can send a photograph of an old family recipe to Alexa and then talk through the recipe as you’re cooking it in your kitchen, substitute ingredients for what you have around the home, and get the job all the way done.”

Rausch noted that while some 24% of users ask Alexa+ to do things other AIs can handle, many are moving more of their daily AI usage to the platform.

Over 10 million people currently have access to Alexa+, and they are interacting with it two to three times more than with the original Alexa. Shopping has tripled, recipe usage has quintupled, and heavy smart home users engage 50% more for device control.

Despite some online complaints about mistakes or misfires, Rausch says the number of people opting out of Alexa+ is extremely low. “Ninety-seven percent of Alexa devices support Alexa+, and we see now in adoption from customers that they’re using Alexa across all those many years and many generations of devices.

“We support all of Alexa’s original capabilities, the tens of thousands of services and devices that Alexa was integrated with already are carried forward to the Alexa+ experience.”

Alongside Alexa+ web rollout, Amazon is updating its mobile app with an “agent-forward” design, prioritising chat interactions over other features.

The combined web and app experience aims to make Alexa+ accessible on every device and interface, offering continuity and convenience for users managing family life, entertainment, and daily routines.

Amazon Rolls Out Alexa+ on Amazon Music App for iOS, Android https://techeconomy.ng/amazon-alexa-plus-launches-on-music-app-ios-android/ https://techeconomy.ng/amazon-alexa-plus-launches-on-music-app-ios-android/#respond Tue, 04 Nov 2025 15:20:23 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=170525 Amazon has expanded access to its upgraded voice assistant, Alexa+, to users of the Amazon Music app on iOS and Android.

The rollout, which is currently open to Alexa+ Early Access participants across all subscription plans, enhances how the company wants people to discover and interact with music.

Unlike the traditional Alexa that responded to straightforward commands, Alexa+ brings a more conversational and intelligent approach.

It’s built to talk with users like a knowledgeable music companion, someone who not only takes requests but also understands curiosity. With Alexa+, users can dig into the details of songs, artists, or even eras of music.

You can ask who influenced a particular artist, what a song means, or find that elusive track you only remember from a movie scene.

Amazon said it’s already seeing strong engagement from users testing the feature. Listeners who used Alexa+ explored three times more songs than those using the old version, and users asking for recommendations listened to nearly 70% more music.

Those numbers show that people are no longer just pressing play; they’re conversing with their music app.

The feature’s conversational depth is what sets it apart. A user might say, “Play pop songs from the ’90s including Madonna, but skip the boy bands,” or “Make a playlist of 2010s hits that keep me moving fast, starting with a track from Nicki Minaj.”

Alexa+ then builds dynamic playlists based on tone, tempo, and personal taste. You can even request something as niche as, “Create a music playlist that sounds like a Parisian café and only include songs in French.”

Beyond playlist creation, Alexa+ acts as a musical researcher in your pocket. It can explain the story behind lyrics, trace the origins of samples, or connect artists by genre or geography.

Asking, “What’s the story behind the lyrics to Hotel California?” or “Recommend some artists from the London punk scene in the ’70s” now leads to detailed, conversational responses rather than robotic answers.

Spotify recently integrated similar conversational features, and Amazon’s move places Alexa+ as a competitor capable of deep engagement and contextual understanding.

The rollout also reveals Amazon’s larger investment in embedding intelligent systems across its ecosystem. Earlier this year, Alexa+ was unveiled as part of Amazon’s broader plan to bring “agent-level” assistance to everyday use, handling not just music, but tasks such as restaurant bookings and grocery orders.

For now, the new feature remains limited to early access users, but a wider release is expected soon. To try it, Amazon Music users can simply update their app, tap the “a” button in the lower right corner, and start talking.

Amazon says, “Alexa+ transforms the way we discover music by offering a more intuitive, conversation-based approach, turning what used to be a basic search function into an interactive discussion guided by your own curiosity.”
