Leaked images circulating online, notably from tipster @Jukanlosreve, show a much slimmer and more polished Z Fold 7. 

The device reportedly measures just 4.2mm when open and 8.9mm folded, slimmer than any Galaxy Fold released so far, and thinner than its immediate predecessor, the Z Fold 6. 

This places Samsung in a head-to-head race with Chinese brands like Honor and Oppo, whose ultra-thin foldables have dominated the segment in recent months.

In the leaked photographs, the Fold 7’s SIM tray appears to hug the frame tightly, hinting at the extremely compact internal design. The speaker grilles and microphone placements also suggest Samsung has optimised every inch of the chassis. 

One of the most interesting changes is the rear camera layout; gone are the chunky black rings seen on the Fold 6. In their place are sleeker silver rings that encircle each lens, an aesthetic choice that complements a striking new blue colour option dubbed “Blue Shadow”.

According to documentation from the EU’s smartphone product label, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will deliver 40 hours and 28 minutes of battery life per charge and maintain 80% battery health after 2,000 cycles. 

It’s been assigned an IP48 rating, making it resistant to water immersion, though still vulnerable to dust, and given a Class A drop resistance score. Repairability, however, is rated Class C, pointing to the fact that fixing it won’t be especially easy or cheap, which is still a common issue for foldable devices.

Internally, the Fold 7 is expected to come with upgraded displays: an 8-inch inner screen and a 6.5-inch cover screen, both slightly larger than those on the Fold 6. Rumours are swirling that a 200MP main camera sensor may be onboard, the same one featured in the Galaxy S25 Ultra, although Samsung has not confirmed this.

Software-wise, the Fold 7 will launch with One UI 7 built on Android 15. Samsung plans to expand its integration of AI capabilities with this device, including tools for real-time translation, smart note summarisation, and multitasking enhancements. Theft Detection Lock, an AI-powered feature, automatically locks the screen of your Android phone when it detects unusual motions usually associated with a phone being snatched. 

This includes the phone moving rapidly in the opposite direction it was held.

Google understands that thieves might try to circumvent security by taking the phone offline. To resolve this, an Offline Device Lock feature will lock the phone if there are repeated failed authentication attempts or if it’s disconnected from the network.

An upgraded factory reset protection makes stolen phones a less attractive target. Even if a thief resets the device, they’ll be unable to set it up again without the owner’s credentials, rendering it useless and unsellable.

In the event your phone goes missing, a new remote lock feature allows you to lock it from any device by visiting android.com/lock [invalid URL removed] and entering your phone number and a security challenge.

These features will be available later this year via a Google Play Services update for phones running Android 10 or later, extending these protections to a wider range of users.

While details are still emerging, Android 15 itself will introduce “private spaces” for isolating sensitive apps and information, and additional protections during factory resets.

Play Protect, Google’s built-in security system, is receiving an upgrade with live threat detection. This feature uses on-device AI to analyze how apps use sensitive permissions, looking for signs of phishing or fraud. 

If suspicious activity is detected, the app is flagged for further review by Google. This live threat detection will be available later this year on Pixel phones and phones from Honor, Lenovo, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, Sharp, Transsion and others.
