These updates, announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2025 in Barcelona, aim to enhance user experience by making Gemini more interactive and visually responsive.

With the new “Screenshare” feature, users can share their phone screens with Gemini and receive instant feedback. For example, during the demonstration, a user browsing for a pair of baggy jeans asked Gemini for style recommendations. The AI assistant analysed the screen and provided suggestions on complementary clothing items.

Another addition is a video-based search function, enabling users to film their surroundings while asking Gemini questions. This feature, initially teased at Google I/O last year, allows Gemini to interpret live video feeds and provide relevant responses in real time.

A demonstration video released by Google showcased a ceramic artist seeking advice on suitable glazes for freshly fired vases.

The video and screen-sharing features will be available later this month to users subscribed to Gemini Advanced through the Google One AI Premium plan on Android devices.

Google is continually enhancing what Gemini can do, making it a more dynamic tool for everyday interactions.

Apple TV+ Now Available on Android Devices https://techeconomy.ng/apple-tv-now-available-on-android-devices/ https://techeconomy.ng/apple-tv-now-available-on-android-devices/#respond Thu, 13 Feb 2025 07:26:42 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=153048 Apple has expanded its streaming service, Apple TV+, with the launch of an app for Android devices.

The new app allows users of Android smartphones, tablets, and foldable devices to access Apple’s premium content, which was initially exclusive.

Previously, Apple TV+ was only accessible to Android users through Google TV, requiring an existing Apple account. With this development, users can now create an Apple account directly on their Android device and subscribe via Google Play billing, with the monthly subscription remaining at $9.99.

This is expected to increase Apple TV+ adoption, particularly in regions where Android dominates the market.

A Growing Library of Premium Content

Apple TV+ is home to acclaimed original productions such as Ted Lasso, Severance, The Morning Show, Hijack, Masters of the Air, and Killers of the Flower Moon. The service also offers live sports content, including Major League Soccer (MLS) Season Pass, which starts at $12.99 per month or $79 per season, and Friday Night Baseball.

The app includes features such as offline downloads, watchlists, and cross-device syncing, ensuring users can continue watching content seamlessly across multiple devices. However, one of its limitations is the absence of an in-app Store for renting or purchasing movies and shows, a feature available on Apple devices.

Apple’s Expanding Services Business

Apple’s Services division has become an important revenue driver, contributing over $100 billion annually. With the introduction of Apple TV+ to Android, the company is tapping into the global Android user base, which accounts for 72% of the smartphone market

Apple is growing its subscription-based revenue streams beyond hardware sales. Despite its reputation for high-quality content, the tech giant has not disclosed viewership figures for Apple TV+.

However, its impact on the entertainment industry is undeniable. The platform became the first streaming service to win an Academy Award for Best Picture with CODA and secured 10 Emmy wins in 2024 across major categories.

Availability and Rollout

The Apple TV+ app is now available for download on Google Play Store, with the rollout beginning on Wednesday. While this is a rare move by Apple to bring one of its core services to Android, it shows a growing openness to platform expansion, particularly in the competitive streaming market.

ngCERT Warns: New Anatsa Malware Steals Banking Info on Android Devices https://techeconomy.ng/ngcert-warns-new-anatsa-malware-steals-banking-info-on-android-devices/ https://techeconomy.ng/ngcert-warns-new-anatsa-malware-steals-banking-info-on-android-devices/#respond Fri, 12 Jul 2024 10:16:00 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=136588 The Nigerian Computer Emergency Response Team (ngCERT) has identified a new and dangerous version of the Anatsa banking trojan, which is currently targeting Android devices.

This sophisticated malware is designed to steal banking credentials and financial information from unsuspecting users.

Disguised as legitimate PDF and QR code readers, the trojan employs advanced techniques to bypass security measures and display fake login screens.

So far, over 70,000 devices have been infected through various apps on the Google Play Store.

According to ngCERT, the Anatsa banking trojan leverages Android’s accessibility services to gain full control over infected devices, allowing attackers to carry out fraudulent transactions.

The trojan is delivered through malicious apps that appear to be legitimate PDF and QR code readers or cleaner apps,” noted ngCERT.

These apps initially behave normally until they secretly download, decrypt, and execute the trojan’s payload, which bypasses the restricted settings for accessibility services, mostly in Android 13.”

The trojan then establishes a connection with its command and control (C2) server and waits for instructions from the attacker, ngCERT added.

The trojan is capable of stealing the user’s banking credentials, credit card details, and payment information by overlaying fake login screens on top of legitimate banking apps and by recording keystrokes.”

The trojan can “prevent the user from interacting with certain apps that are defined by the attacker and can download, upload, delete, install, and find files on the device.”

Upon successful installation, the Anatsa trojan allows attackers to remotely interact with the device, launch phishing attacks to steal sensitive financial information, block access to legitimate applications such as security apps or system settings, and manipulate files on the device.

To prevent or mitigate the infection, ngCERT recommends that Android users exercise caution when downloading apps. Users should “avoid installing apps from unknown or untrusted sources and check the reviews and ratings of the apps before downloading them from the Google Play Store.”

It is also advisable to “avoid calling numbers provided in unsolicited messages or emails and be wary of apps that ask for unnecessary or excessive permissions, such as accessibility services or installation of unknown apps.”

If an app suspected to contain the Anatsa trojan is found, it should be uninstalled immediately, and the device should be scanned with a reputable antivirus app.

Users should also “change the banking passwords and monitor the account activity for any suspicious transactions and report them to the respective banks.”

Using and keeping antivirus software updated to detect and remove malware, as well as ensuring that the Android device and apps are updated to the latest versions, are key in protecting against this threat.
