In her new role, Adesanya will oversee Bboxx Nigeria’s participation in the Distributed Access through Renewable Energy Scale-up (DARES) fund.

The company plans to reach more than 100,000 households in 2026, providing off-grid solar systems, solar-powered irrigation for farmers and financing for smartphones.

Anthony Osijo, Group CEO, Abci-Nexus, said: “I am delighted to welcome Ene into the role of Managing Director for Bboxx Nigeria. This transition highlights Bboxx’s commitment to developing internal talent, promoting from within and ensuring consistent, strong leadership as we continue to double down on our key markets.”

Adesanya brings over 17 years of experience in finance and business leadership. Prior to her appointment, she served as Head of Finance at Bboxx Nigeria, where she supported market expansion, strengthened financial governance, and delivered value across both commercial and donor-funded programmes.

“I joined Bboxx because I believe in building sustainable, impact-driven energy businesses that deliver real change,” Adesanya said:

“Through our participation in the DARES fund and our range of energy and financing solutions, we are well-positioned to significantly expand access to essential services for Nigerian households and businesses in 2026 and beyond.”

Adesanya succeeds Ernest Akinlola, who stepped down at the end of January after five years in the role. While he is no longer managing day-to-day operations, Akinlola will continue to support the business as a member of the Bboxx Energy Access Nigeria board.

Osijo acknowledged his contribution, saying, “I would like to thank Ernest for his significant contributions to Bboxx Nigeria; during his time here, he has helped drive the renewable energy agenda in Africa’s most populous country.”

Bboxx, Radiant Yacu Launch Affordable EV Insurance, Benefitting 130,000 Rwandan Motorbike Riders https://techeconomy.ng/bboxx-radiant-yacu-launch-affordable-ev-insurance-benefitting-130000-rwandan-motorbike-riders/ https://techeconomy.ng/bboxx-radiant-yacu-launch-affordable-ev-insurance-benefitting-130000-rwandan-motorbike-riders/#respond Tue, 17 Dec 2024 14:39:50 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=149731 Bboxx, a data-driven super platform, in collaboration with Radiant Yacu Insurance, has launched an innovative insurance solution for electric motorbike (EV) riders in Rwanda.

Dubbed Bboxx Protect, this product provides thorough coverage at prices more than 40% lower than the market average, ensuring a sustainable green transition while addressing the country’s low insurance penetration rate.

The initiative, aimed at benefiting up to 130,000 motorbike riders, introduces a pay-as-you-go (PAYGo) insurance model powered by Bboxx’s smart data technology.

This approach provides riders with affordable access to a wide coverage that includes protection against material damage, fire, third-party liabilities, life insurance, and total permanent disability.

Traditionally underserved in the insurance market, motorbike riders in Rwanda have largely relied on basic third-party coverage.

Bboxx Protect changes this by offering a comprehensive insurance package focused on the needs of EV users. Riders can save up to 44% annually on insurance costs, freeing up resources for essential expenses like family welfare and household investments.

Speaking at the launch, Anthony Osijo, CEO of Bboxx, commented on the impact: “With the launch of Bboxx Protect, we are doubling down on our commitment to serving existing markets while making affordable, comprehensive insurance accessible to motorbike riders who have long been underserved.

“By reducing financial risk and offering greater security, we’re empowering thousands of customers to protect their livelihoods while contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future.”

The product also incentivises the shift from internal combustion engine (ICE) bikes to electric vehicles (EVs), reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainability. This aligns with Rwanda’s green agenda, giving riders the financial security needed to embrace EV technology with confidence.

Ovia K. Tuhairwe, CEO of Radiant Yacu Insurance, described the partnership as a necessary step toward transforming Rwanda’s insurance sector: “Through our strategic partnership with Bboxx, we are introducing a pioneering insurance solution that equips motorbike riders with the financial protection needed to confidently transition to electric vehicles.

“By offering affordable, comprehensive coverage tailored to EVs, we are not only enabling a safer and greener future, but also addressing Rwanda’s low insurance penetration. This collaboration will make insurance more accessible to underserved communities, promoting financial inclusion and driving long-term economic growth across the country.”

Bboxx Protect goes beyond traditional insurance by leveraging smart data monitoring to predict and mitigate road accident risks. This data-driven approach improves safety for riders and enhances risk management for insurers, setting a new standard for the industry.

The initial rollout of Bboxx Protect targets 1,500 motorbike riders, with plans to expand to the broader 130,000-strong motorbike community in Rwanda. If successful, the model could be scaled across other African markets, extending the benefits of comprehensive, affordable insurance and encouraging widespread EV adoption.

Rwanda’s insurance penetration rate, currently below 1%, is set to improve greatly with this initiative. In making insurance accessible to underserved communities, Bboxx and Radiant Yacu aim to enhance financial inclusion while facilitating economic development across the country.

Bboxx Partners AWS to Optimise Customer Service with AI Integration https://techeconomy.ng/bboxx-partners-aws-to-optimise-customer-service-with-ai-integration/ https://techeconomy.ng/bboxx-partners-aws-to-optimise-customer-service-with-ai-integration/#respond Wed, 04 Dec 2024 12:49:42 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=148828 Bboxx, a provider of clean energy and digital solutions across Africa, has partnered with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to incorporate artificial intelligence into its operations.

The collaboration will see Bboxx integrate AI into its proprietary Bboxx Pulse platform, aimed at enhancing customer experiences and improving operational efficiency.

The AI integration focuses on simplifying customer service processes by analysing and summarising customer data in real-time.

This allows Bboxx’s customer service team to address queries more efficiently, reducing response times by an average of 2.5 minutes. The result is an estimated monthly saving of 5,000 customer service hours, alongside an improvement in customer satisfaction.

As one of the first African companies to adopt AI through AWS’s Generative AI Innovation Centre, Bboxx is driving the deployment of advanced technological solutions.

The integration of AI builds upon existing tools in the Bboxx Pulse Insights suite, such as credit scoring and behavioural analytics, which have already brought about good successes. For example, integrating credit scoring tools has led to a 15% increase in collection rates, further strengthening Bboxx’s operations.

Speaking on the development, Anthony Osijo, CEO of Bboxx, said: “Through our partnership with AWS, we are empowering our teams to deliver faster, more efficient service, benefiting both our customers and employees. This step marks another milestone in our mission to improve lives through technology.”

The partnership comes after months of rigorous testing and collaboration with AWS to ensure the AI integration delivers secure and reliable outcomes. AWS has documented the project in a detailed case study, showcasing its prospects to inspire further innovation across the continent.

Sri Elaprolu, Director of AWS Generative AI Innovation Centre, commended the partnership, stating: “The integration of AWS’s AI services into Bboxx Pulse exemplifies how AI can drive operational efficiency and transform customer experiences. We are proud to support Bboxx’s mission of improving lives and advancing sustainable solutions in Africa.”

This AI integration is the first of several innovations planned by Bboxx to optimise its operations. Future initiatives include developing AI-powered tools for daily planning, which will assist over 2,000 field staff and agents, further improving productivity and business performance.

Bboxx Earns Gold Standard Certification for Multi-Country Clean Energy Projects https://techeconomy.ng/bboxx-earns-gold-standard-certification-for-multi-country-clean-energy-projects/ https://techeconomy.ng/bboxx-earns-gold-standard-certification-for-multi-country-clean-energy-projects/#respond Wed, 25 Sep 2024 10:46:41 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=143945 Bboxx has been awarded Gold Standard certification for its clean energy projects in five African countries, representing a huge advancement in addressing climate change and energy poverty while boosting growth opportunities.

As a data-driven platform, Bboxx connects consumers across Africa with innovative products, helping to transform lives and strengthen community resilience through sustainable energy solutions.

The certification is novel because it covers a diverse portfolio of clean energy solutions, including solar home systems, PAYGO clean cooking solutions, and solar-powered water pumps.

The projects have already delivered substantial emissions reductions and are each expected to generate up to 60,000 carbon credits annually, offering a scalable model for sustainable development.

The programme covers Bboxx’s operations in multiple African countries including Rwanda, Kenya, Nigeria, Togo, and the DRC. In total, the projects are expected to offset more than 20 million tons of carbon emissions, generating $100 million worth of carbon credits and impacting the lives of over 4 million Bboxx customers.

The Gold Standard is a voluntary carbon offset programme focused on progressing the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring that projects benefit their neighbouring communities.

The Gold Standard is applied to voluntary offset projects with a focus on projects that provide lasting social, economic, and environmental benefits.

Anthony Osijo, chief executive officer of Bboxx, said: Bboxx is leading the way in the delivering a range of clean energy solutions. It is our mission to accelerate clean energy access and adoption and, as well as products and services, the deployment of carbon credits will enable more capital to flow into this crucial part of the energy transition in Africa.

This Gold Standard certification solidifies Bboxx’s position as a leader in decentralised clean energy, showcasing the company’s dedication to innovation, social impact, and environmental stewardship as well as meeting and surpassing the rapidly evolving expectations of our consumers.

It’s our responsibility to commit to scalability and ensure we’re providing more people with access to innovative solutions which will build the resilience of communities on top of being a significant market opportunity.”

Bboxx’s clean cooking programme enables families to access safer cooking fuels while paying for only the energy they use. Investing in this carbon off-setting programme will create annual credits by replacing traditional cookstoves with efficient LPG stoves.

Bboxx’s Solar Home Systems will also create additional carbon credits each year. Solar Home Systems revolutionise the lives of families and small businesses located in remote and peri-urban areas in Africa.

These systems allow more people to access renewable energy that can be used to power their homes and charge electronic devices, and businesses also benefit from these Solar Home Systems as they enable them to carry out tasks beyond daylight hours.
