Anthropic has raised $65 billion in a new funding round that values the company at $965 billion after investment.

This places the artificial intelligence firm among the world’s most valuable private technology companies ahead of a possible stock market debut.

The Series H round drew backing from investment firms including Altimeter Capital, Dragoneer, Greenoaks, Sequoia Capital, Capital Group, Coatue and D1 Capital Partners.

Investors such as Baillie Gifford, Blackstone, Brookfield, DST Global and Fidelity Management & Research also joined the round.

The funding package also includes $15 billion in previously committed investments from large cloud companies, including $5 billion from Amazon announced earlier this year.

Samsung, SK Hynix and Micron joined the round as strategic infrastructure partners.

With the funding, Anthropic plans to expand computing capacity, grow its Claude products and continue research into safety and interpretability.

The company announced the funding on the same day it released Claude Opus 4.8, its latest model focused on coding, advanced reasoning and what it described as stronger honesty and self-correction abilities.

Anthropic has expanded rapidly since its last fundraising round in February, helped by rising demand from business customers using Claude Code and other enterprise tools. The company said its annualised revenue run rate passed $47 billion earlier this month.

“Claude is increasingly indispensable to our growing global community of customers, and we work tirelessly to make tools like Claude Code and Cowork more helpful, more powerful, and more adaptable to their needs,” said Krishna Rao, chief financial officer of Anthropic.

This funding will help us serve the historic demand we are experiencing, stay at the research frontier, and bring Claude to more of the places where work happens.”

The company also said it recently signed new agreements with Amazon, Google, Broadcom and SpaceX to secure more computing power as demand for Claude grows.

Under those agreements, Amazon will provide up to five gigawatts of additional capacity, while Google and Broadcom will supply next-generation TPU infrastructure. SpaceX will also provide access to GPU capacity through its Colossus systems.

Anthropic revealed that Claude is now available across Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure, with AWS remaining its main cloud and training partner.

Claude’s latest advancements have driven large-scale adoption among the world’s most demanding organisations. This momentum positions Anthropic to lead the next phase of AI innovation and capture the enormous opportunity ahead,” said Brad Gerstner, founder and CEO of Altimeter Capital.

Marc Stad, managing partner at Dragoneer, said, “The technological progress we are seeing right now is breathtaking. And we believe that we are still in the earliest days of both the development and commercialisation of this technology.”

Neil Mehta, founder and managing partner at Greenoaks, added, “Rarely has a company’s culture, mission, and commercial momentum reinforced each other so completely. We are honoured to deepen our partnership.”

With competition increasing among leading artificial intelligence companies seeking more users, stronger computing infrastructure and fresh investment before entering public markets, Anthropic’s latest raise will strengthen its place.

Earlier this year, OpenAI secured a funding round valued at $852 billion after investment, while Elon Musk’s xAI, now merged with SpaceX, has reportedly targeted a $2 trillion valuation ahead of a future public offering.

Anthropic is considering a new funding round that could value the company at more than $900 billion, according to reports from Bloomberg.

People familiar with the talks say investors have already made early offers in the range of $850 billion to $900 billion but the company has not accepted any of them.

Discussions are still at an early stage, and nothing has been agreed.

Several investors are trying to secure large stakes, with some offers said to be worth up to $50 billion in new capital. A decision is expected at a board meeting in May.

Anthropic last raised funds in February and that round brought in $30 billion, valuing the company at $380 billion. If this new round goes through at the higher valuation being discussed, it would mark a surge in a matter of months.

The move would also change its position in the market as OpenAI was valued at about $852 billion in March after a major funding round, but a deal at $900 billion would place Anthropic ahead as the most valuable artificial intelligence startup.

The company has received backing from major technology firms. Google has committed billions of dollars, with more funding tied to performance targets. Amazon has also invested heavily and plans to increase its stake over time.

Anthropic declined to comment when contacted.

Revenue growth has supported the surge in investor interest with the company’s annual revenue run rate passing $30 billion earlier this year and is now said to be approaching $40 billion.

Growth has come from demand for its Claude models, especially tools built for coding and business use.

Recent releases include new versions of its core systems and a cybersecurity-focused model with limited access due to safety issues.

There is also a public listing under consideration. Bloomberg reported that an initial public offering could come as soon as October. If that plan holds, this funding round may be the last before the company goes public.

Anthropic has raised $30 billion in a new funding round, taking its valuation to $380 billion.

Now among the world’s most valuable private technology firms, the company confirmed the round on Thursday, saying investors including D. E. Shaw Ventures, ICONIQ and MGX co-led the deal.

Microsoft and Nvidia also took part, adding to their existing investments. Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and Coatue Management were among the lead backers in what the company described as its Series G round.

Other investors included Founders Fund, Qatar Investment Authority, Accel, General Catalyst and Jane Street.

With this latest raise, Anthropic’s total funding since it was founded now exceeds $57 billion. The Series G deal ranks among the largest private technology financings on record, second only to OpenAI’s $40 billion raise in 2025.

Anthropic said its annualised revenue has reached $14 billion. Its coding-focused product, Claude Code, accounts for more than $2.5 billion of that figure. The company said revenue from Claude Code has more than doubled since the start of 2026.

Business demand is growing. Subscriptions to Claude Code from companies have quadrupled this year. Enterprise clients now generate more than half of the product’s revenue, according to the company.

Anthropic has built much of its strategy around tools for developers and office workers. Its Claude Cowork agent carries out computer-based tasks for white-collar staff.

The release of plugins for the agent unsettled parts of the software market, as investors weighed the possible impact of automation on traditional software providers.

The funding places Anthropic closer to its main competitor, OpenAI. In January OpenAI was in talks with SoftBank Group to raise as much as $30 billion more, in a deal that could value the company at about $830 billion.

Microsoft and Nvidia have now backed both companies, strengthening their positions as key suppliers of computing power to the artificial intelligence sector. Anthropic also counts Google and Amazon among its earlier supporters.

On regulation, Anthropic has taken a different line from many technology firms. The company has pledged $20 million to support U.S. political candidates who favour stronger oversight of artificial intelligence.

Earlier on Thursday, the company said: “The companies building AI have a responsibility to help ensure the technology serves the public good, not just their own interests.”

Chief executive Dario Amodei repeated that position at the World Economic Forum in Davos in January 2026, where he said artificial intelligence companies must ensure their technology benefits society as a whole.

Blackstone, the world’s largest alternative asset manager, is also increasing its stake in Anthropic to about $1 billion, Reuters reported earlier this week.

Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, is set to raise $3.5 billion in its latest funding round, pushing its valuation to $61.5 billion.

Initially aiming for $2 billion, the company has now secured greater backing from investors, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, General Catalyst, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX.

This latest investment will bring Anthropic’s total funding to approximately $18 billion.

Even with its growing revenue, which now stands at around $1.2 billion annually, Anthropic is not yet profitable. The company plans to use the funds to further its AI research and development efforts, particularly in creating more advanced models.

Anthropic has also launched Claude 3.7 Sonnet, a new AI model that allows users to choose between instant responses and deeper, more complex reasoning. Unlike traditional AI chatbots that force users to pick between models with varying capabilities, Claude 3.7 Sonnet integrates both functionalities in a single system.

According to Anthropic, the model’s unique feature is its ability to “think” for as long as needed. This approach is just like human reasoning, where some questions require quick answers while others demand more thoughtful consideration.

Similar to how humans don’t have two separate brains for questions that can be answered immediately versus those that require thought,” the company stated in a blog post, “we regard reasoning as simply one of the capabilities a frontier model should have, to be smoothly integrated with other capabilities, rather than something to be provided in a separate model.”

Pricing and Performance

The Claude 3.7 Sonnet model is priced at $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, making it more expensive than some competitors, such as OpenAI’s o3-mini and DeepSeek’s R1. However, Anthropic says that its hybrid nature—combining standard chatbot functions with deep reasoning—justifies the cost.

Performance tests show Claude 3.7 Sonnet surpassing previous versions. On SWE-Bench, a benchmark for real-world coding tasks, it achieved an accuracy of 62.3%, outperforming OpenAI’s o3-mini model, which scored 49.3%.

Another test, TAU-Bench, measured AI interaction with users in a simulated retail environment, where Claude 3.7 Sonnet scored 81.2%, ahead of OpenAI’s o1 model at 73.5%.

Again, Anthropic claims to have greatly improved the model’s ability to distinguish between harmful and harmless prompts, reducing unnecessary refusals by 45% compared to its predecessor, Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

Alongside Claude 3.7 Sonnet, Anthropic is launching a research preview of Claude Code, an AI-powered coding assistant. This tool allows developers to execute tasks directly from their terminal, such as modifying codebases, debugging errors, and even pushing updates to GitHub.

Illustrating its abilities, an Anthropic representative showed how Claude Code could break down a project’s structure and suggest improvements using plain English commands. Initially, access to Claude Code will be limited and granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

While Anthropic has taken a measured, safety-focused approach in the past, this launch seems to be a more aggressive innovation. However, OpenAI is reportedly preparing to release its own hybrid AI model in the coming months, bringing even fiercer competition in the space.

Artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic is reportedly finalising a funding round that could raise an additional $2 billion, pushing its valuation to an estimated $60 billion.

The deal, led by venture capital firm Lightspeed Venture Partners, will boost Anthropic’s financial standing after a previous valuation of $18 billion in 2023.

Anthropic has since grown fast to meet up with the competition in the generative AI space. Its flagship AI product, Claude, is commended among enterprises for its capabilities in customer service, sales, and marketing applications.

Recent innovations, such as the introduction of Claude Enterprise, further make Anthropic more disruptive in providing advanced AI solutions for businesses.

Anthropic’s innovation has attracted investments from some of the world’s biggest technology firms. Amazon recently increased its stake in the company, committing $4 billion in convertible notes.

This follows the e-commerce giant’s earlier $4 billion investment, which brings its total stake to $8 billion. Nonetheless, Amazon remains a minority investor without a seat on Anthropic’s board.

Google has also been a part of Anthropic’s growth, injecting $2 billion into the startup in 2023. This partnership established a strategic cloud collaboration between the two companies.

In October 2024, Anthropic unveiled a new feature allowing its AI models to perform complex tasks on computers, such as navigating websites and executing multi-step operations. According to Jared Kaplan, Anthropic’s chief science officer, the innovation enables AI systems to mimic human computer use with remarkable efficiency.

With the surge in funding for Anthropic, companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google are vying for market share, but startups like Anthropic are leveraging investments to carve out their own niche.

Industry analysts project the generative AI sector could generate over $1 trillion in revenue within the next decade, highlighting the high stakes involved.

According to PitchBook data, U.S.-based AI startups accounted for nearly half of all venture capital funding in 2024, with $97 billion poured into the sector. This surge reiterates the huge potential of AI technology, even as overall venture capital fundraising has seen a decline.
