Apple has once more reminded us that the cycle of consumption is eternal, unveiling a fresh lineup of devices designed to make us question every penny we’ve saved.

Its “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, 2025, was about a more integrated ecosystem.

iPhone 17 Series: The Core Trio

Apple launched three familiar siblings this year: the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, all built on the new A19 chip line by TSMC’s 3 nm process. The iPhone 17 runs on the A19 (6-core CPU, 5-core GPU) and kicks off at 256 GB of base storage, no more penny-pinching with 128 GB.

  • It sports a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with ProMotion (120 Hz), Ceramic Shield 2, and 3,000 nits peak brightness.
  • The rear camera system uses a 48 MP Dual Fusion setup, paired with an 18 MP front camera that supports follow-mode and ultrastabilised video.
  • Battery life is wow, 30 hours video playback, for example, and the usual IP68 protection, Always-On display and Dynamic Island apply too.

The 17 Pro elevates things further, with the beefier A19 Pro (6-core CPU, 6-core GPU), and a refined aluminium unibody (no more titanium) for better heat dispersion. It offers 12 GB RAM, storage from 256 GB to 1 TB, and a larger 6.3-inch ProMotion OLED display that also hits 3,000 nits outdoors.

Photography buffs will love the new Pro Fusion Camera System: a horizontal bump with a true 8× telephoto zoom (optical-quality), and full ProRes RAW, Log 2, and Genlock support for filmmakers.

Then there’s the 17 Pro Max. It shares the A19 Pro muscle, comes with a 6.9-inch display, and likely packs the largest battery in iPhone history, making it Apple’s longest-lasting phone yet.

All three ship with iOS 26, including Apple’s new “Memory Integrity Enforcement” for watertight security.

The Wild Card: iPhone Air

Then, plot twist, Apple unveiled the iPhone Air, its thinnest phone ever, measuring a scant 5.6 mm deep, weighing just 165 g. It’s a design win that feels thinner than most wallets… if you still had one.

  • The frame is grade 5 titanium with a high-gloss mirror finish. Ceramic Shield protects both front and back (with clear scratch and crack resistance improvements).
  • The display: 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR, 120 Hz ProMotion, peak 3,000 nits brightness, and Always-On down to 1 Hz for efficiency.
  • Inside lies the A19 Pro, plus Apple’s custom C1X modem and N1 networking chip—bringing Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, Thread, and fantastic efficiency.
  • Apple claims “all-day battery life” with 27 hours of video playback, or 40 hours if paired with the new $99 MagSafe battery.
  • Camera wise: 48 MP Dual-Fusion rear, plus a 12 MP telephoto lens and 18 MP front Center Stage camera. Dual front-and-rear recording is supported.
  • It’s eSIM-only, comes in four colours (black, white, beige/light gold, sky blue), and starts at $999.

Other Launches

Right behind the iPhones came refreshed AirPods Pro 3 and a trio of Apple Watches:

  • AirPods Pro 3 brings Apple’s top-of-the-line active noise cancellation, live translation, heart-rate sensing, and improved battery life.
  • Apple Watch Series 11 adds hypertension tools and sleep tracking. Headlines claim 5G and blood-pressure monitoring (pending approval).
  • Watch SE 3 upgrades to an always-on display and S10 chip. Watch Ultra 3 gets satellite messaging, 5G, and a massive 42-hour battery.

So…

If you thought Apple would take a break, think again. The tech giant’s strategy is to tighten the ecosystem by layering new enablers: speed, design, and devotion. The iPhone Air says: “You can have ultra-thin.” The Pro lineup says: “You can also go full force.” Every model starts at 256 GB, so you’re not nickel-and-dimed into tiny storage.

Personally, I find it smart. The products are predictable yet thrilling in parts. No AI jargon, just gadgets that work beautifully, and pull your wallet in.

Apple Schedules September 9 Event to Unveil iPhone 17, Major Device Updates https://techeconomy.ng/apple-iphone-17-event-september-2025/ https://techeconomy.ng/apple-iphone-17-event-september-2025/#comments Tue, 26 Aug 2025 17:33:27 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=165861 Apple Inc. will reveal its latest products on Tuesday, September 9, with a global event livestream from the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino, California.

The event, set to start at 5 p.m. WAT (10 a.m. PT), promises a lineup led by the iPhone 17 series, including a radically thinner model which is a design shift for the company.

The new iPhone 17 lineup will feature a standard edition, iPhone 17 Pro, Pro Max, and the all-new iPhone 17 Air, which replaces the previous Plus variant.

Reports reveal the Air model will measure just 5.5mm thick, making it Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date, while sporting a 6.6-inch display and a single-lens rear camera. The device is expected to appeal to users seeking sleek form factors, though compromises on battery capacity are likely.

“I think the thinner design will attract new customers to the iPhone,” an analyst noted, reflecting Apple’s strategy to combine innovation with customer expansion. The Pro versions will undergo a notable redesign, featuring larger camera arrays and aluminium frames, reinforcing Apple’s focus on mobile photography.

Across all models, the A19 and A19 Pro chips will power faster processing, and ProMotion 120Hz displays may become standard.

Beyond smartphones, Apple is updating its Apple Watch line for the first time in three years. The Series 11, Ultra 3, and SE 3 are all set for release.

The Ultra 3 will reportedly include a larger OLED display, faster charging, and 5G RedCap support, while Series 11 could introduce blood pressure monitoring and Sleep Score analytics. The SE 3 may adopt the Series 9 design, offering a larger screen at a lower price point.

Other expected announcements include the AirPods Pro 3, featuring a compact design, H3 chip, touch-sensitive controls, and heart-rate monitoring. Apple will also likely refresh its HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K, with the latter powered by the A17 Pro chip to enhance streaming and gaming.

Software updates will accompany the hardware rollout. iOS 26 is set to debut new AI-driven features, including live call translation, AI-powered call screening, and the “Liquid Glass” interface. Apple’s Pro models, built with 12GB RAM and advanced cooling, will handle more demanding AI tasks, embedding intelligence across system apps.

The Apple September 9 event is expected to set the stage for Apple’s next three years of iPhone innovation, including foldable devices and curved-glass models leading up to the product’s 20th anniversary in 2027.

The event will be streamed live at apple.com and via the Apple TV app.

Apple Watch Ultra 2 Hits Record Low Price Ahead of Expected Successor Launch https://techeconomy.ng/apple-watch-ultra-2-sale-record-low/ https://techeconomy.ng/apple-watch-ultra-2-sale-record-low/#comments Mon, 18 Aug 2025 16:36:57 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=165400 Apple’s most rugged smartwatch, the Apple Watch Ultra 2, is now selling at its lowest-ever price of $649.99 in the United States, a steep cut from its usual $799 retail price. The limited-time deal is available through both Amazon and Best Buy.

The Apple Watch Ultra 2, released last year, was built with endurance in mind. It features a 49mm titanium case, dual-frequency GPS for accurate location tracking, and water resistance up to 100 metres.

It also offers offline maps for hikers and divers, making it one of Apple’s most adventure-ready wearables. The battery can last for two and a half days under normal conditions and stretches up to 72 hours in low power mode.

Inside, the watch runs on Apple’s S9 SiP chip, which powers a double-tap gesture that allows users to control the device without touching the screen. The processor also supports on-device Siri, meaning voice commands work even without an internet connection.

Apple recently re-enabled blood oxygen monitoring on the watch, which joins its list of health tools such as atrial fibrillation alerts, fall and crash detection, sleep tracking, and ECG recording.

The timing of the discount has raised eyebrows. Apple typically introduces new Watch models each September, and rumours suggest the Apple Watch Ultra 3 will feature a larger display. That makes the Ultra 2’s reduced price look like a clearance push before the next generation arrives.

Other Tech Deals Worth Noting

Alongside the Ultra 2, a few other gadgets have received major price cuts:

  • Soundcore Select 4 Go Speaker – Now $24.99 on Amazon (down from $35). Compact but powerful, the speaker is waterproof, dustproof, and even floats if dropped in water. It lasts up to 20 hours per charge and can be clipped to a backpack for travel. Reviewers often praise it as one of the best budget Bluetooth speakers under $40.
  • Aura Mason 9 Digital Frame – Priced at $119.99 on Woot (down from $199.99). The Wi-Fi-enabled photo frame allows users to upload unlimited photos and videos through the Aura app without paying subscription fees.
  • Eufy Omni S1 Pro Robot Vacuum and Mop – Currently $949.99 on Amazon, a massive $550 discount from its $1,500 list price. Marketed as one of the most advanced robot vacuums available, it comes with 8,000Pa suction, LiDAR-based mapping, 3D obstacle detection, and a 10-in-1 UniClean station that handles mop washing, drying, and auto-emptying. Its design, inspired by sports cars, hides serious power: up to 3.6 hours of runtime and the ability to clean both carpets and hard flooring.

With September approaching, shoppers who want the best of Apple’s smartwatch line may need to decide whether to grab the Ultra 2 at a record low, or wait for the Ultra 3’s expected debut.
