With Africa’s digital progression in focus, ATC Africa’s recently concluded global conference, TechX Africa–The Future of Technology Africa Conference, capitalised on transformative ideas and reaffirmed that the continent’s sustainability lies in the hands of its tech talent.

Held at the KAFF Auditorium, University of Ibadan, TechX Africa 2025 drew over 500 attendees from different cities, states, and countries, including thought leaders, developers, innovators, and disruptors, with a common goal to bolster Africa’s digital growth in every sector.

As an initiative of ATC Africa, a tech-forward community with roots in five countries and operations across 26 chapters and 78 campuses in Nigeria, this annual conference is part of a holistic vision. Through programmes like CyberSmart, TalentTribe, Web3 Smart, She Innovate, and TechRise, ATC Africa is looking beyond a community to cultivate the next generation of African tech leaders.

Conversations were solutions-focused, and panels tackled issues such as scaling startups in uncertain markets, bridging the tech education gap, and navigating Africa’s complex digital policies.

Among the line-up of speakers who enriched the sessions were Oluwatomiwa Williams, Microsoft Country manager; Orimolade Oluwamuyemi, global tech marketing and communications leader; Babafemi Ogungbamila,  operation and technology leader at Interswitch; Ayo Adewuyi, head of product at Presmit; Ayobami Atolagbe, co-founder & CEO, DemoHub; Dr. Aituaz (Eboigbe) Kola-Oladejo, founder, financial service innovator; and Ronke Giwa-Onafuwa, general manager, Dominion Broadcast.

Each of them stressed lived experience and insight that helped attendees look towards taking immediate action to solve problems in their respective environments.

Anita Ebiogbe, COO, Big Cabal Media; Dr Rhaheemat Adabanija, director of ICT, Oyo state; Adedeji Damilare, VP Growth, Grupp; Emmanuel Aiyenigba, 3MTT Oyo State community manager; Ibiniyi Obikoya, senior software engineer; and Mowa ljasanmi, product manager, were also part of the conversations, moving from policy to product, grassroots to global.

The Ibadan Students Tech Fest 2024, organised by ATC Africa, stood out as an essential development in advancing technology education and promoting innovation among students in Oyo State. 

ATC Africa, a community focused on building a better future for Africans in technology, hosted this event which brought together over 400 students from various higher institutions in and around Ibadan.

Among the institutions represented were the University of Ibadan, The Polytechnic Ibadan, City Polytechnic Ibadan, Dominion University, Precious Cornerstone University, Ajayi Crowther University, Koladaisi University, Redeemer’s University, Bolmor Polytechnic, Dominican University, Lead City University, LAUTECH (Ogbomoso), The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic (Saki), Federal Cooperative College, Federal School of Statistics (Ibadan), Sapade Polytechnic (Ogun State), Eruwa Polytechnic, First Technical University, Atiba University, and Alayande College of Education (Oyo).

The theme for this year’s event was “Hacking the Ecosystem: Disruptive for Technology Growth,” powered by ATC Africa and led by Tope James Moses, co-founder of the organisation. The theme reiterated the event’s mission to enable a rich technology ecosystem by supporting young talent and supporting innovation.

The Ibadan Students Tech Fest aimed to demystify technology and provide students with the skills needed to scale through the dynamic tech industry. The event connected students with industry experts, offering insights into emerging technologies and encouraging collaboration to drive innovation.

Tope James Moses emphasised the importance of investing in the next generation, stating, “To cultivate a thriving technology ecosystem, we must invest in our youth. By providing opportunities for upskilling, mentorship, and collaboration, we can equip young talent with the resources they need to drive technological advancements across various fields.”

As young talent matures, they are expected to play an important role in propelling the tech ecosystem forward, contributing to a cycle of growth and creativity. The event highlighted the growing tech culture in Ibadan and beyond, with a strong focus on empowering the youth to shape the future.

The Tech Fest featured a diverse range of speakers and panellists, each providing insights into different sectors of the tech industry. Activities and Sessions

The event’s highlights included the Capture the Flag (CTF) competition, which tested participants’ skills in cybersecurity and problem-solving. Networking and professional sessions also allowed students to engage with professionals and peers, ensuring collaboration and career growth. 

Added to this, the Serial Interview segment provided an opportunity for students to learn from the experiences of tech professionals, further expanding their knowledge of the industry.

ATC Nigeria has appointed Soji Maurice-Diya as its new Chief Executive Officer. 

Soji Maurice-Diya, who joined the company in 2018, initially helped in driving growth and innovation as the Commercial Director and later as Chief Operating Officer (COO).

Since joining ATC Nigeria, Maurice-Diya has led the Sales and Innovation team, contributing to the company’s commercial success. 

As COO from August 2022, he managed the company’s operations, focusing on bringing together efficiencies following commendable growth. 

He also laid the operational foundation for expanding ATC Nigeria’s platform, ensuring resilience and expansion.

Maurice-Diya succeeds Errol Ambler-Smith, whose six-year tenure as CEO was with strong leadership and focus on ATC Nigeria. 

Appreciating Ambler-Smith’s contributions, the colony wrote, “We would like to thank Errol Ambler-Smith for his incredible leadership in Nigeria and great dedication over the past 6 years.”

Maurice-Diya’s experience spans various sectors, including technology, media, real estate, and telecommunications. Before joining ATC Nigeria, he was the Principal at Maudi Capital and Investment, focusing on strategic investments. 

He also served as a Commercial Advisor at ExxonMobil, where he enhanced commercial opportunities through economic analysis and development.

His earlier roles include leading Strategy and Business Development at Etisalat Nigeria, where he was responsible for sales and distribution strategy, roaming, and carrier negotiations. At IBM, he served as a Global Market Development Advisor in New York, leading reviews with senior management.

Maurice-Diya holds an MBA in Finance and Strategy from the Yale School of Management and has completed the Advanced Leadership Development Program at INSEAD. He is involved in volunteering as a board member of the Alumni Advisory Board at the Yale School of Management.

In his new role as CEO, Maurice-Diya is expected to ensure a new dimension of growth and innovation for ATC Nigeria, building on the foundation established previously.
