CES 2026: Amazon Launches Redesigned Fire TV, $899 Ember Artline TV with Faster UI, Alexa+, 4K HDR https://techeconomy.ng/amazon-fire-tv-redesign-ember-artline-lifestyle-tv/ https://techeconomy.ng/amazon-fire-tv-redesign-ember-artline-lifestyle-tv/#respond Mon, 05 Jan 2026 16:52:10 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=173708 Amazon is overhauling its Fire TV with a cleaner interface, faster performance, and a range of new features aimed at making content easier to find and enjoy.

Alongside the software update, the company is launching the Amazon Ember Artline, a television designed to double as a piece of art.

The Fire TV redesign focuses on simplicity. Rounded corners, expanded spacing, consistent fonts, and gradient accents make navigation more intuitive, while the home screen now supports 20 app slots instead of six.

Navigation categories, including Movies, TV, Live TV, Sports, and News, are more prominent, and a search button sits to the left of the Home tab.

Users can still scroll vertically to access favourite rows, but horizontal scrolling now allows faster access to apps and content.

As we brought that content forward, the [user interface] got a little cluttered, a lot of stuff and a lot of rows,” said Fire TV VP Aidan Marcuss in an interview with TechCrunch. “We know the data, there’s a lot of time spent searching. We…know that it could just be easier.”

The update also brings speed improvements. Amazon says the new interface is 20–30% faster on popular devices, thanks to rewritten code.

A long-press on the Home button opens a shortcut panel for audio, display, sleep timer, accessibility, smart home devices, and even Ring camera feeds, reducing the need to dig through menus.

Alexa+ is fully integrated, letting users make requests in natural language. You can ask it to find shows, explore specific actors or directors, or even generate art displays from Amazon Photos.

Our mission at Fire TV is getting customers to what they want to watch, fast. We know that can be hard with so much content to choose from,” the company said. Alexa+ will be included with a Prime subscription or available as a paid add-on once early access ends.

The Fire TV app for mobile devices has been redesigned too. Users can browse content, manage watchlists, and stream titles directly to their TV. The goal is to let everyone in the household participate in content discovery, not just the person holding the remote.

The Ember Artline takes Amazon’s vision a step further. Available in 55- and 65-inch versions starting at $899, these 4K QLED TVs support Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Wi-Fi 6.

They are just 1.5 inches thick and feature a matte screen to reduce glare. Ten magnetic frame options, including Walnut, Ash, Teak, Matte White, and Midnight Blue, allow the TV to blend seamlessly with room décor.

The Ember Artline is designed for Amazon’s Ambient features, which display over 2,000 pieces of included art or personal photos when the TV isn’t in use.

Alexa+ can generate slideshows from personal collections with commands like, “Alexa, create a slideshow of our family trip to Colorado.”

Far-field microphones and Omnisense technology adjust the display automatically based on room activity.

Amazon plans to roll out the Fire TV redesign and updated app in February on the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus, Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), and Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series in the U.S.

Other devices and countries will follow later in spring, including the Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen), Fire TV 2- and 4-Series, Omni QLED Series, and partner TVs from Hisense, Panasonic, TCL, and others.

The Ember Artline will launch simultaneously in the U.S., Canada, Germany, and the UK.

Amazon has sold over 300 million Fire TV devices to date and appears intent on keeping the platform both visually appealing and easier to use.

CES 2026: Amazon Launches Alexa.com, Bringing Alexa+ to the Web https://techeconomy.ng/amazon-launches-alexa-com-online-alexa-plus/ https://techeconomy.ng/amazon-launches-alexa-com-online-alexa-plus/#respond Mon, 05 Jan 2026 15:52:45 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=173703 Amazon is taking Alexa beyond smart speakers and mobile apps. Starting Monday, Early Access users can interact with Alexa+ directly from their browsers via the new website, Alexa.com.

The company says this expansion aims to make Alexa+ available wherever people need it, at home, on their phones, and now online.

Alexa-powered devices are already global, with over 600 million units sold worldwide. But Amazon believes simply having a presence in the home isn’t enough. In moving Alexa+ online, the company aims to let anyone engage with its assistant, even if they don’t own an Echo device.

The website allows users to handle daily tasks, explore complex topics, create content, plan trips, and manage household routines. Amazon is emphasising its focus on family life. Users can update calendars, make reservations, manage shopping lists on Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods, find and save recipes, and even plan movie nights.

Alexa+ has also integrated with more third-party services, including Angi, Expedia, Square, and Yelp, joining existing apps like OpenTable, Uber, Fodor’s, Ticketmaster, and Thumbtack.

On the website, a navigation sidebar provides quick access to frequently used features like calendar appointments, shopping lists, and smart home controls.

Amazon is also encouraging users to share emails, documents, and other personal data via the web using Alexa+. The assistant can then track tasks ranging from kids’ soccer schedules to medical appointments, and even manage household reminders such as the dog’s vaccinations or community events.

This could become Alexa+’s strongest advantage, though Amazon doesn’t yet have the deep productivity ecosystem or personal data reach of competitors like Google.

Seventy-six percent of what customers are using Alexa+ for no other AI can do,” said Daniel Rausch, VP of Alexa and Echo at Amazon, in an interview with TechCrunch. “And I think that’s a really interesting statistic about Alexa+ for two reasons. One, because customers count on Alexa to do unique things.

“You know, you can send a photograph of an old family recipe to Alexa and then talk through the recipe as you’re cooking it in your kitchen, substitute ingredients for what you have around the home, and get the job all the way done.”

Rausch noted that while some 24% of users ask Alexa+ to do things other AIs can handle, many are moving more of their daily AI usage to the platform.

Over 10 million people currently have access to Alexa+, and they are interacting with it two to three times more than with the original Alexa. Shopping has tripled, recipe usage has quintupled, and heavy smart home users engage 50% more for device control.

Despite some online complaints about mistakes or misfires, Rausch says the number of people opting out of Alexa+ is extremely low. “Ninety-seven percent of Alexa devices support Alexa+, and we see now in adoption from customers that they’re using Alexa across all those many years and many generations of devices.

“We support all of Alexa’s original capabilities, the tens of thousands of services and devices that Alexa was integrated with already are carried forward to the Alexa+ experience.”

Alongside Alexa+ web rollout, Amazon is updating its mobile app with an “agent-forward” design, prioritising chat interactions over other features.

The combined web and app experience aims to make Alexa+ accessible on every device and interface, offering continuity and convenience for users managing family life, entertainment, and daily routines.

CES 2026: Google Adds New Gemini Features to TVs, Turning Screens Into Voice-Driven Home Hubs https://techeconomy.ng/google-gemini-google-tv-ces-2026/ https://techeconomy.ng/google-gemini-google-tv-ces-2026/#respond Mon, 05 Jan 2026 15:02:14 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=173697 Google is expanding Gemini to the living room, and this time the television (TV) is the focus.

At CES 2026 in Las Vegas, the company revealed new Gemini features for Google TV that go beyond content search, aiming to change how people interact with their screens entirely.

Instead of scrolling through menus or adjusting settings mid-show, viewers will soon be able to speak to their TV in plain language.

You can ask for recommendations that suit more than one person, request a recap of a series you missed, or describe a film without knowing its title.

Gemini is built to respond like a conversation, not a command list. If you forget a show’s name but remember the plot or an actor, that’s enough.

Google demonstrated this with everyday questions, including, “What’s the new hospital drama everyone’s talking about?” The response is not just text. Gemini uses a visual layout that changes based on the question, mixing words, images, video context and live sports data when needed. The idea is to make the TV screen useful, not cluttered.

The company is starting this rollout with TCL, its launch partner for Gemini on TV. The features will first appear on TCL’s flagship QM9K series before expanding to other Google TV devices in the coming months.

That is important because Google TV and Android TV OS already run on more than 300 million monthly active devices worldwide, including televisions, streaming boxes and projectors. This gives Gemini instant scale once the wider rollout begins.

Entertainment is only part of the plan. Google wants the TV to double as a learning tool. When users ask a question they want to understand, the screen can present a guided overview of the topic.

Concepts are broken down visually, with narration, and follow-up questions can be asked without restarting the search. It feels closer to a lesson than a lookup.

Personal media is also getting attention. Gemini can search through Google Photos on the TV, helping users find specific people or moments. It can apply artistic styles to photos and videos and turn them into cinematic slideshows.

Google believes that people want to relive memories on a larger screen, not just a phone.

One of the most practical changes is how Gemini handles TV settings. If the picture looks wrong or the sound is unclear, there’s no need to pause and hunt through menus.

Saying things like “the screen is too dim” or “I can’t hear the dialogue” prompts Gemini to adjust the right controls instantly, without pulling you out of what you’re watching.

All of this depends on software. The new features require devices running Android TV OS 14 or higher and an active internet connection. OS 14, which began rolling out widely in 2025, brought upgrades such as picture-in-picture, improved energy-saving modes, smoother performance and stronger accessibility and security features.

A Google account is also required, and support will vary by language, country and device at launch.

Strategically, Google is no longer treating the TV as a passive screen. With Gemini, it is positioning the television as an always-on home hub, capable of conversation, learning and control.

In that process, Gemini is also stepping into the role once held by the older Google Assistant, promising more natural dialogue and bigger abilities.
