The agreement, which expands a partnership the two companies began in 2023, strengthens Amazon’s place in the fast-growing market for advanced computing services.

Amazon said it will invest $5 billion in Anthropic immediately, with a further $20 billion available later if agreed commercial targets are met. That comes on top of the $8 billion Amazon has already invested in the company.

Anthropic, the maker of Claude, said it will use current and future generations of Amazon’s Trainium chips to train and run its models, expecting to secure up to five gigawatts of computing capacity over time.

The company also confirmed that one gigawatt of capacity using Trainium2 and Trainium3 chips should be available by the end of this year.

Giving Anthropic more access to the large-scale infrastructure needed to support high demand, Amazon gets a major long-term customer for its custom-built chips and cloud services.

More than 100,000 customers already use Anthropic’s Claude models on AWS, according to the companies.

Customers will also be able to access Anthropic’s Claude Platform directly through AWS accounts, allowing them to use existing billing, security controls and monitoring tools without separate contracts.

Amazon has invested heavily in expanding data centres and computing power as demand for advanced software tools rises. The company recently said it expects around $200 billion in capital spending this year, with much of that linked to technology infrastructure.

Chief Executive Andy Jassy said Anthropic’s long-term use of Trainium chips showed the progress both companies had made together.

Our custom AI silicon offers high performance at significantly lower cost for customers, which is why it’s in such hot demand,” he said.

Anthropic’s commitment to run its large language models on AWS Trainium for the next decade reflects the progress we’ve made together on custom silicon, as we continue delivering the technology and infrastructure our customers need to build with generative AI.”

Anthropic Chief Executive and co-founder Dario Amodei said demand for Claude continued to grow quickly.

Our users tell us Claude is increasingly essential to how they work, and we need to build the infrastructure to keep pace with rapidly growing demand,” he said.

Our collaboration with Amazon will allow us to continue advancing AI research while delivering Claude to our customers, including the more than 100,000 building on AWS.”

Amazon shares rose about 2.7% in extended trading after the announcement.

Microsoft Adds Multi-Model AI Features to Copilot, Expands Cowork Tool https://techeconomy.ng/microsoft-copilot-multi-model-ai-features-cowork/ https://techeconomy.ng/microsoft-copilot-multi-model-ai-features-cowork/#respond Mon, 30 Mar 2026 15:18:23 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=178697 Microsoft has launched new multi-model AI features in its Copilot research assistant, allowing users to work with multiple AI models at the same time.

The company said on Monday that the update will let Copilot’s Researcher agent draw responses from both OpenAI’s GPT and Anthropic’s Claude models within a single workflow. Until now, it relied on one model for each task.

With the new “Critique” feature, one model handles the initial draft while another reviews and refines it before the final output is produced.

Microsoft said this setup is designed to improve accuracy and reduce errors that can appear in AI-generated responses.

Microsoft is also adding a feature called “Model Council”, which lets users compare answers from different AI systems side by side. This gives a clearer view of where responses match or differ, and helps users decide which output to rely on.

The company says the changes are aimed at improving speed, quality and overall productivity for users working on complex tasks.

At the same time, Microsoft is expanding access to its Copilot Cowork tool, which is still in early release under its Frontier programme. The tool is built for longer, multi-step tasks. Users can describe what they want done, and the system creates a plan, works through connected steps and shows progress along the way.

Copilot Cowork can also carry out routine work such as scheduling, preparing briefings and handling repeat tasks like monthly reviews. Microsoft said early users are already applying it to planning, document creation and preparation for executive meetings.

The company has been focused on strengthening its Copilot platform as competition grows from other AI tools, including Google’s Gemini and Anthropic’s Claude-based systems.

Anthropic Rolls Out Opus 4.5, Expands Chrome and Excel Access https://techeconomy.ng/anthropic-opus-4-5-launch-coding-memory-performance/ https://techeconomy.ng/anthropic-opus-4-5-launch-coding-memory-performance/#respond Tue, 25 Nov 2025 08:08:20 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=171621 Anthropic has released Opus 4.5, its latest high-end model and strongest system to date, being the final 4.5 line-up.

The company confirmed that Opus 4.5 provides leading results in software engineering tests, becoming the first model to clear the 80% mark on the SWE-Bench Verified assessment.

It also recorded success in problem-solving tasks and computer-based performance, areas Anthropic has pushed aggressively in recent months.

Alongside the launch, the company is enhancing access to several products built around the model’s capabilities. Claude for Chrome will now be open to all Max users, while Claude for Excel is expanding to Max, Team and Enterprise customers. These tools were previously restricted to pilot testing.

Opus 4.5 introduces a redesigned memory system intended to improve long-running tasks and reduce disruptions during extended conversations. Users with paid plans will now be able to continue chats without being cut off when the system reaches its context limit, as the model compresses earlier exchanges quietly in the background.

Dianne Na Penn, Anthropic’s head of product management for research, noted the change in how the system handles information, saying: “There are improvements we made on general long context quality in training with Opus 4.5, but context windows are not going to be sufficient by themselves. Knowing the right details to remember is really important in complement to just having a longer context window.”

Anthropic has also framed the update as preparation for more advanced agent-style tasks, where Opus directs smaller models to complete complex work across documents and codebases.

Penn noted the need for stability in those scenarios, adding: “This is where fundamentals like memory become really important, because Claude needs to be able to explore code bases and large documents, and also know when to backtrack and recheck something.”

The release arrives during a crowded period in the sector, coming less than two weeks after OpenAI launched GPT 5.1 and shortly after Google rolled out Gemini 3 on November 18. All three companies are competing for enterprise customers seeking systems capable of specialised technical work.

Opus 4.5 is available through Anthropic’s apps, API and major cloud platforms. The company has also increased usage allowances for Max and Team Premium customers to support daily adoption.

Anthropic says more details on performance and safety testing are outlined in its system documentation, which states that Opus 4.5 is the most secure model the firm has produced so far.

ChatGPT | Google Gemini | Claude: Which is More Creator-Friendly and Enterprise-Friendly? https://techeconomy.ng/chatgpt-vs-gemini-vs-claude-creators-enterprises/ https://techeconomy.ng/chatgpt-vs-gemini-vs-claude-creators-enterprises/#comments Thu, 02 Oct 2025 11:05:57 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=168625 Think of three siblings; ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, walking into a job interview. The interviewer says, “Tell me what you bring to the table.” ChatGPT whips out a multimedia buffet, Gemini shows a magic mirror, and Claude offers you a safety manual plus a strategy blueprint. Who passes? Depends on what job you’re hiring for.

That, in a nut: when creators ask “which AI is best for me?” and enterprise leaders ask “which AI can I trust with my contracts and secrets?”, the answers diverge. I tested, poked, and prodded, now here’s a full breakdown: which is truly creator-friendly, and which is enterprise-friendly.

How Big Are They Now?

Before we dig into strengths and weaknesses, here are recent facts (so you know this isn’t amateur hour):

  • ChatGPT currently tops the user aspect with 800 million weekly active users in 2025.
  • It reportedly generated 78.3 billion tokens in a single day in September 2025, usage peaks when classes resume.
  • According to market share estimates, ChatGPT holds ~82.7 % of the global chatbot space.
  • Google Gemini, backed by Google’s large ecosystem, has pushed “AI Plus”, a $5/month plan now available in over 40 countries, bundling tools like Flow, video creation, NotebookLM, and 200 GB cloud storage.
  • Internally, Gemini 2.5 Pro, with multimodal and reasoning enhancements including a 1 million token context window, is in experimental rollout.
  • Claude has made strong moves in enterprise space: in 2025 the number of business users reportedly rose from under 1,000 to over 300,000.
  • Anthropic has announced it will triple its international workforce to support expanding demand.

In short: ChatGPT is everywhere. Gemini is pushing affordability and integration. Claude is scaling enterprise demand.

What Creators Really Want

Creators, including writers, designers, coders, marketers, don’t care about “models” or “architectures.” They want tools that are like an extension of their mind. Here’s how each brand stands.

  • Ease and Accessibility: ChatGPT provides strong apps, browser access, and a wide plugin ecosystem. Gemini is deeply integrated with Google apps like Docs and Sheets, making it seamless inside Google’s stack. Claude offers a clean interface and good API access but has a smaller ecosystem.
  • Creativity and Versatility: ChatGPT does great in generative content, images, and audio (via integrations). Gemini supports multimodal input—image, video, text—and includes an experimental “thinking mode.” Claude is strong in long-form reasoning with safer output constraints.
  • Customisation and Personality: ChatGPT allows for many custom GPTs, plugins, and persona fine-tuning. Gemini provides some prompt hints, native Google tie-ins, and active experiments. Claude takes a “constitutional AI” approach to govern responses, safer but less flexible.
  • Community and Extensions: ChatGPT has the largest developer and creator community with countless plugins. Gemini has fewer external plugins but strong first-party tools. Claude has a smaller, more curated ecosystem.

My Take (for Creators)

For creators, ChatGPT is the most battle-tested, eclectic, and flexible. You want to generate a blog post, code snippet, design prompt, or ad copy, it handles all. Gemini is gaining fast in rich-media tasks (image, video) and isolation in Google’s suite, but it still lacks the breadth of third-party extensions. Claude is thoughtful, precise, and safer for complex writing, but you may hit limits if you push into really “out-there” creativity.

So: for creative freedom, go ChatGPT. Use Gemini when you’re already inside Google’s world. Use Claude when you want safer, long-form output and are okay with slightly fewer bells and whistles.

What Enterprises Really Care About

Enterprises care less about generating a witty tweet than about compliance, risk, use at scale, data integration, and reliability. Here’s how the three differentiate.

Data Privacy and Compliance: ChatGPT provides strong control but sometimes faces regulatory trust issues. Gemini, coming from Google’s infrastructure, is robust but has issues with risky AI outputs. Claude markets itself strongly on safety, guardrails, and transparency.

Integration and Ecosystem: ChatGPT integrates deeply through Microsoft’s Copilot, plugins, and APIs. Gemini fits naturally within Google Workspace and Cloud. Claude is improving its API and tool use, and Microsoft has added Claude into Copilot as an alternate model choice.

Scalability and Consistency: ChatGPT has proven scalability but can show output variability; Gemini 2.5 is improving reasoning for more stability; Claude emphasises consistency, with “Constitutional AI” designed to reduce risky outputs.

Pricing and Licensing: ChatGPT offers enterprise tiers with flexible licensing. Gemini benefits from Google’s enterprise cloud bundling. Claude’s enterprise adoption is growing rapidly, reflected in its soaring business user base.

My Take (for Enterprises)

If I were running a company in Nigeria or Kenya, I’d trust Claude slightly more when compliance, safety and regulation matter (legal, finance, healthcare). Gemini wins if you’re deeply invested in Google’s tools already, you get seamless workflow and comfort. ChatGPT is not far behind; with its ecosystem and scale, it’s the “generalist safe bet.” But for truly sensitive tasks, I would lean Claude.

Features (Recent Updates You Should Know)

Here are some feature face-offs that tip the balance:

  • Token/context windows: Gemini 2.5 Pro experiments with 1 million token context windows, allowing it to handle huge documents.
  • “Thinking mode / chain-of-thought”: Gemini’s “thinking experimental” mode lets it show reasoning steps.
  • Claude’s extended reasoning & tool use: Claude introduced ability to use tools in parallel and extended “thinking” modes in recent Opus / Sonnet models.
  • AI Plus affordability: Google’s $5/month AI Plus plan (with Gemini 2.5 Pro access) is available now in 40+ countries.
  • Microsoft’s shift in Copilot: Microsoft is letting users switch between OpenAI and Anthropic (Claude) models inside Copilot’s “Researcher” tool.

These tweaks are highly important. For example: if I hand you a 200-page PDF, who digests it best? That’s where context windows and tool use matter.

Side-by-Side

Here’s a quick at-a-glance summary:

  • For pure creative breadth, ChatGPT remains the best.
  • For multimedia and tool integration, Gemini shines—especially within Google’s ecosystem.
  • For safety and regulated use, Claude leads.
  • For hybrid usage, ChatGPT is the most flexible.
  • For enterprises in regulated industries, Claude is most dependable.

Verdict & Advice (Practical Takeaways)

  • If you’re a creator building content, marketing, designs, pick ChatGPT. It’s the Swiss army knife.
  • If your workflow is deeply inside Google’s universe (Docs, Sheets, Slides), Gemini may give you frictionless results.
  • If you run or plan to run a business in the sectors where compliance and trust are important, Claude should be your test subject.

But don’t view this as a strict hierarchy. Use two side by side: draft in one, polish in another. Use Claude for review and safety, and ChatGPT or Gemini for creative breadth.

For Africans, it’s also important to watch local latency, pricing in naira, interface availability, and customer support in your region, those frictions usually matter more than model specs.

U.S. Approves ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude for Federal Use https://techeconomy.ng/us-approves-chatgpt-gemini-and-claude-for-federal-use/ https://techeconomy.ng/us-approves-chatgpt-gemini-and-claude-for-federal-use/#comments Tue, 05 Aug 2025 16:57:13 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=164462 The United States government has formally approved OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Google’s Gemini, and Anthropic’s Claude for federal agency use.

The announcement came from the General Services Administration (GSA) on Tuesday, confirming that the three AI platforms have been added to the government’s Multiple Award Schedule.

This change removes the need for agencies to negotiate individual contracts, enabling faster integration of AI into tasks ranging from grant review and tax fraud detection to public comment analysis.

The decision is part of an AI Action Plan unveiled on 23 July, outlining 90 measures intended to strengthen U.S. drive in artificial intelligence. The plan focuses on deregulation, rapid infrastructure expansion, and aggressive AI exports to allied nations.

It also includes fast-tracked approvals for data centre construction, expanded energy access, and the promotion of an “American AI Technology Stack”, encompassing chips, models, and industry standards.

This is a fight that will define the 21st century,” President Donald Trump declared, framing the initiative as both a technological and geopolitical contest with China.

The new American AI Exports Programme, jointly managed by the Commerce and State Departments, will coordinate full-stack AI deployments abroad, a move that stands in contrast to the Biden administration’s more guarded approach.

Under President Joe Biden, export restrictions on high-end AI chips and stringent safeguards on federal AI use were introduced, including measures against misinformation, consumer risks, and discriminatory impacts. Those requirements have now been rolled back.

Instead, the GSA says federal agencies will focus on AI tools “that prioritise truthfulness, accuracy, transparency, and freedom from ideological bias.” The Trump administration has also issued an executive order titled Preventing Woke AI in the Federal Government, directing agencies to avoid models deemed politically biased.

The change represents a complete reorientation of how the U.S. government intends to build, deploy, and export AI. For technology companies, it opens the door to lucrative federal contracts.

For federal agencies, it changes the scope and speed of AI adoption, for international partners, it points to Washington being prepared to use its AI capabilities as a diplomatic and strategic tool.

Anthropic Nears $3.5 Billion Funding Deal, Unveils Claude 3.7 Sonnet https://techeconomy.ng/anthropic-nears-3-5b-funding-deal-unveils-claude-3-7-sonnet/ https://techeconomy.ng/anthropic-nears-3-5b-funding-deal-unveils-claude-3-7-sonnet/#respond Tue, 25 Feb 2025 08:33:44 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=153730 Anthropic, the artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, is set to raise $3.5 billion in its latest funding round, pushing its valuation to $61.5 billion.

Initially aiming for $2 billion, the company has now secured greater backing from investors, including Lightspeed Venture Partners, General Catalyst, Bessemer Venture Partners, and Abu Dhabi-based MGX.

This latest investment will bring Anthropic’s total funding to approximately $18 billion.

Even with its growing revenue, which now stands at around $1.2 billion annually, Anthropic is not yet profitable. The company plans to use the funds to further its AI research and development efforts, particularly in creating more advanced models.

Anthropic has also launched Claude 3.7 Sonnet, a new AI model that allows users to choose between instant responses and deeper, more complex reasoning. Unlike traditional AI chatbots that force users to pick between models with varying capabilities, Claude 3.7 Sonnet integrates both functionalities in a single system.

According to Anthropic, the model’s unique feature is its ability to “think” for as long as needed. This approach is just like human reasoning, where some questions require quick answers while others demand more thoughtful consideration.

Similar to how humans don’t have two separate brains for questions that can be answered immediately versus those that require thought,” the company stated in a blog post, “we regard reasoning as simply one of the capabilities a frontier model should have, to be smoothly integrated with other capabilities, rather than something to be provided in a separate model.”

Pricing and Performance

The Claude 3.7 Sonnet model is priced at $3 per million input tokens and $15 per million output tokens, making it more expensive than some competitors, such as OpenAI’s o3-mini and DeepSeek’s R1. However, Anthropic says that its hybrid nature—combining standard chatbot functions with deep reasoning—justifies the cost.

Performance tests show Claude 3.7 Sonnet surpassing previous versions. On SWE-Bench, a benchmark for real-world coding tasks, it achieved an accuracy of 62.3%, outperforming OpenAI’s o3-mini model, which scored 49.3%.

Another test, TAU-Bench, measured AI interaction with users in a simulated retail environment, where Claude 3.7 Sonnet scored 81.2%, ahead of OpenAI’s o1 model at 73.5%.

Again, Anthropic claims to have greatly improved the model’s ability to distinguish between harmful and harmless prompts, reducing unnecessary refusals by 45% compared to its predecessor, Claude 3.5 Sonnet.

Alongside Claude 3.7 Sonnet, Anthropic is launching a research preview of Claude Code, an AI-powered coding assistant. This tool allows developers to execute tasks directly from their terminal, such as modifying codebases, debugging errors, and even pushing updates to GitHub.

Illustrating its abilities, an Anthropic representative showed how Claude Code could break down a project’s structure and suggest improvements using plain English commands. Initially, access to Claude Code will be limited and granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

While Anthropic has taken a measured, safety-focused approach in the past, this launch seems to be a more aggressive innovation. However, OpenAI is reportedly preparing to release its own hybrid AI model in the coming months, bringing even fiercer competition in the space.

Anthropic Nears $2B Funding Round as Valuation Expected to Hit $60B https://techeconomy.ng/anthropic-nears-2b-funding-round-as-valuation-expected-to-hit-60b/ https://techeconomy.ng/anthropic-nears-2b-funding-round-as-valuation-expected-to-hit-60b/#respond Wed, 08 Jan 2025 06:41:12 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=150747 Artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic is reportedly finalising a funding round that could raise an additional $2 billion, pushing its valuation to an estimated $60 billion.

The deal, led by venture capital firm Lightspeed Venture Partners, will boost Anthropic’s financial standing after a previous valuation of $18 billion in 2023.

Anthropic has since grown fast to meet up with the competition in the generative AI space. Its flagship AI product, Claude, is commended among enterprises for its capabilities in customer service, sales, and marketing applications.

Recent innovations, such as the introduction of Claude Enterprise, further make Anthropic more disruptive in providing advanced AI solutions for businesses.

Anthropic’s innovation has attracted investments from some of the world’s biggest technology firms. Amazon recently increased its stake in the company, committing $4 billion in convertible notes.

This follows the e-commerce giant’s earlier $4 billion investment, which brings its total stake to $8 billion. Nonetheless, Amazon remains a minority investor without a seat on Anthropic’s board.

Google has also been a part of Anthropic’s growth, injecting $2 billion into the startup in 2023. This partnership established a strategic cloud collaboration between the two companies.

In October 2024, Anthropic unveiled a new feature allowing its AI models to perform complex tasks on computers, such as navigating websites and executing multi-step operations. According to Jared Kaplan, Anthropic’s chief science officer, the innovation enables AI systems to mimic human computer use with remarkable efficiency.

With the surge in funding for Anthropic, companies like OpenAI, Microsoft, and Google are vying for market share, but startups like Anthropic are leveraging investments to carve out their own niche.

Industry analysts project the generative AI sector could generate over $1 trillion in revenue within the next decade, highlighting the high stakes involved.

According to PitchBook data, U.S.-based AI startups accounted for nearly half of all venture capital funding in 2024, with $97 billion poured into the sector. This surge reiterates the huge potential of AI technology, even as overall venture capital fundraising has seen a decline.

Authors Sue AI Company Anthropic for Allegedly Stealing Content to Train Chatbot https://techeconomy.ng/authors-sue-ai-company-anthropic-for-allegedly-stealing-content-to-train-chatbot/ https://techeconomy.ng/authors-sue-ai-company-anthropic-for-allegedly-stealing-content-to-train-chatbot/#respond Tue, 20 Aug 2024 17:57:00 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=140594 Three authors have filed a class-action lawsuit against artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic, with accusations of misusing copyrighted material to train AI-powered chatbot, Claude.

The lawsuit, filed on August 19th, 2024, in the California federal court, alleges that Anthropic included pirated copies of books by the plaintiffs – Andrea Bartz, Charles Graeber, and Kirk Wallace Johnson – and potentially hundreds of thousands of other copyrighted works in their training data for Claude.

This lawsuit adds to the list of copyright infringement issues against tech companies developing large language models (LLMs).

Similar lawsuits have been filed against OpenAI and Meta Platforms, accusing them of using copyrighted content from authors, visual artists, and news outlets to train their respective chatbots.

For Anthropic, this is the second copyright infringement lawsuit it is facing. Last year, music publishers accused the company of using copyrighted song lyrics without permission to train Claude.

The lawsuit against Anthropic claims the company “built a multi-billion dollar business on the backs of stolen intellectual property,” referring to the alleged inclusion of pirated books in Claude’s training data.

Anthropic, which has financial backing from tech giants like Amazon, Google, and former cryptocurrency billionaire Sam Bankman-Fried, has yet to respond to the lawsuit.

The authors are seeking unspecified monetary damages and a permanent injunction to prevent Anthropic from further misusing their copyrighted works.
