Established in 2017 to revolutionize the maritime and logistics sector in Nigeria through truck mobility solutions powered by technology, TTP has emerged as a key player in driving port terminal efficiency, reducing traffic congestion, and creating new business opportunities within the Apapa port economic zone.

Congestion: Trucks Transit Parks (TTP) Calls for E-tag, EITN Deployment for Lagos Ports
Jama Onwubuariri, MD, Trucks Transit Parks (TTP).

Our third anniversary of operations provides us an opportunity to reflect on how far we have come in breaking the barriers to tech adoption in maritime and logistics, but also on the vast opportunities in the industry that are yet untapped,” said Jámà Ọnwụbụarịrị, managing director and co-founder of Trucks Transit Parks Ltd.

Nigeria’s social and economic challenges present a fertile ground for innovation, and Trucks Transit Parks has seized the opportunity to leverage technology to address these challenges.

With products like Ètò, an electronic truck call-up solution used to manage truck movement between various controlled facilities, and the recently launched Tafiyah, an online marketplace designed for the transportation of cargo; Trucks Transit Parks has not only eased congestion but also provided solutions that maximize business opportunities for stakeholders while reducing carbon emissions and improving efficiency.

Lagos State’s status as the tech hub of Africa is a testament to the talent and potential within our borders. We believe technology and innovation can transform Nigeria into an economic powerhouse in the mid-term,” added Ọnwụbụarịrị.

Trucks Transit Parks recognizes the importance of strategic partnerships with both private and public sector players in the maritime, infrastructure, and technology subsectors. These partnerships will enable TTP to deepen its value-adding services and contribute further to the growth and development of the industry.

We are committed to actively seeking strategic partnerships with stakeholders across various sectors to drive innovation and create sustainable solutions,” stated Ọnwụbụarịrị.

As part of its commitment to innovation, TTP is also awaiting government approval to deploy for the Apapa and Tincan ports, its latest innovations, including Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID)/E-tags and the E-Callup Interchange Transaction Number (EITN), which will help to streamline truck movements within Lagos ports, improve security & access control as well as prevent illegal criss-crossing of trucks between terminals.

These innovations are poised to further ease truck mobility challenges and enhance efficiency within the industry.

Nigeria’s strategic location along the west coast of Africa makes us a maritime hub, and with the right initiatives and partnerships, we have the potential to unlock even greater opportunities,” concluded Ọnwụbụarịrị.

Trucks Transit Parks Ltd said it remains steadfast in its commitment to driving positive change, fostering innovation, and creating value for all stakeholders.

As it celebrates its 3rd anniversary, TTP looks forward to a future filled with continued growth, collaboration, and success.

This call was reiterated during a recent Stakeholders Engagement Forum held at the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) Headquarters recently, aimed at assessing the efficiency of the Electronic Callup System amid the resurgence of traffic gridlock along the Apapa Port corridor.

Key challenges discussed during the forum included the drop in terminal efficiency, which has contributed significantly to the persistent gridlock at port corridors; the status of information technology infrastructural installations across park facilities, with some parks allegedly operating without fulfilling standard requirements.

Concerns were also raised about wet cargo operations, emphasizing the need for an electronic call-up system for tanker operations to alleviate congestion. Truckers’ attitudes toward standard operating procedures for the E-callup system were also identified as a major driver of congestion.

In light of these challenges, Trucks Transit Parks (TTP) proposed the deployment of E-tags to improve the electronic call-up system deployed for the Apapa and Tincan ports. The E-tags affixed to vehicle windshields, offer a seamless and automated approach to access control.

E-tag readers at entry and exit gates integrate with the access barrier system, improving security and access control. The integration with the ètò solution streamlines the truck scheduling process, leading to benefits such as fast cargo evacuation, reduced human interaction, improved security, and cost-effectiveness.

Furthermore, TTP recommended the implementation of EITN for Apapa and Tincan Ports, describing it as a key transaction and traffic cycle correlation measure. This feature, implemented in line with its design, ensures high volumes of legitimate bookings, reduces illegitimate traffic, and enhances transaction phase correlation. It provides better coordination of truck movements within ports, prevents criss-crossing between terminals, and supports integrated security check activities.

TTP’s Managing Director and Co-founder, Jama Onwubuariri, emphasized the importance of deploying RFID/E-tags and EITN, stating, “The deployment of RFID/E-tag and EITN is pivotal to addressing the challenges faced in the Lagos ports. TTP is committed to providing innovative solutions that enhance efficiency, reduce congestion, and create a seamless experience for stakeholders in the maritime sector.”

Trucks Transit Parks Limited, a technology company dedicated to providing tech-based mobility solutions in Africa, continues to play a pivotal role in reducing congestion in the Apapa port economic zone. With its custom-made software solutions, including ètò, TTP aims to enhance real-time visibility for traffic management, terminal performance, and drivers, contributing to the overall efficiency of the maritime sector.
