According to a statement on Wednesday, the launch of the project, which will begin on October 12, is designed as a form of social impact, akin to a charity donation.

The Chief Executive Officer of Egoras,  Ugoji Harry noted that at a significantly reduced price of ₦45,000 per 50kg bag, Nigerians will be getting some relief from the impact of food inflation

Harry emphasised the growing hardship that many Nigerians face in affording basic food supplies. “The current economic situation has pushed many families into extreme financial strain,” he said.

“We understand that food is becoming unaffordable for many households, and as a company, we feel a responsibility to support our communities. This rice, which is locally produced, would ordinarily sell for almost double the price, but we are offering it at N45,000 to make it accessible.”

In recent months, the price of essential food items like rice has skyrocketed, making it difficult for the average Nigerian family to meet their daily nutritional needs.

Inflation, which is currently above 30%, has led to sharp increases in the cost of staple foods, pushing many Nigerians further into poverty.

With food prices at record highs, the launch of Ella Parboiled Rice comes at a crucial time for consumers who are unable to afford basic food staples.

Harry highlighted that the discounted rice is not intended for resellers or distributors. “To prevent exploitation, we have set a limit of one bag per customer,” he explained.

“We want to ensure that as many households as possible benefit from this initiative, and we don’t want people buying in bulk just to resell it at a profit. This is a way of giving back, and we’re trying to reach everyday Nigerians who need this the most.”

In addition to providing affordable rice, the company has ensured convenient distribution with pickup points in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt.

Customers can pre-order through egomart.org to secure their bags of rice, which will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Harry acknowledged the economic challenges but remained optimistic about the positive impact of the initiative. “We believe that this effort, while small, will provide some relief to those most in need. Every bag of rice sold at this price is helping a family get through these tough times,” he said.

Egoras’ initiative seeks to counter issues of food insecurity and economic instability in Nigeria.

As the country continues to face the effects of inflation and rising food prices, initiatives like this will gradually bridge the gap between supply and affordability, offering some relief in a difficult time.

Nigerian Startup Egoras Deepens EV Adoption with Blockchain-powered Charging Station https://techeconomy.ng/nigerian-startup-egoras-deepens-ev-adoption-with-blockchain-powered-charging-station/ https://techeconomy.ng/nigerian-startup-egoras-deepens-ev-adoption-with-blockchain-powered-charging-station/#respond Sat, 16 Mar 2024 07:36:13 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=127305 Nigerian energy startup Egoras Technology is gearing up to launch “Egostation,” a revolutionary electric vehicle charging station powered by blockchain technology.

Scheduled for debut on June 8th in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, Egostation is designed to reshape the future of sustainable transportation in the region.

This innovative project has been specifically designed to enhance the way people travel, with a particular emphasis on sustainability and eco-friendliness.

Powered by Egoras’ proprietary blockchain solution, Egochain, Egostation ensures enhanced transparency and incentivizes station ownership, fostering the widespread adoption of EVs across Nigeria.

Egostation’s cutting-edge Level 3 DC fast charging system enables rapid charging, with the capability to charge an electric vehicle up to 80% within just 20 minutes, making it an ideal solution for the dynamic needs of modern EV owners.

The startup revealed that Level 3 charging stations, like Egostation, are equipped with DC fast chargers. Compared to traditional Level 2 AC chargers, DC fast chargers deliver significantly faster charging times.

This is because DC chargers bypass the car’s onboard AC/DC converter, delivering direct current to the battery for a more efficient and rapid charging process.

As Egoras continues to pave the way for sustainable transportation solutions, the company invites partners to join in establishing charging stations nationwide.

“We are excited to introduce Egostation as a game-changer in EV charging technology,” said the Chief Executive Officer at Egoras, Ugo Harry.

“By leveraging the power of blockchain through our proprietary Egochain, we are not only revolutionizing the EV charging experience but also incentivizing the widespread adoption of electric vehicles across the country.”

He explained that Egoras’ commitment to sustainability extends beyond its charging stations.

“Our fleet of electric vehicles and charging station terminals will be seamlessly integrated into the Egochain, ensuring enhanced security, transparency, and efficiency,” Harry stated.

Last week, the startup announced plans to launch its made-in-Nigeria electric vehicle, APEX 28, in April.

The firm is committed to transitioning Africans from fossil fuels to sustainable energy with the APEX 28 EV.

The electric vehicle, manufactured at Egoras’ factory in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, represented a significant step forward to revolutionise and promote clean energy within the transport sector.

On potential partnerships, the CEO said that as it continues to pioneer advancements in the EV sector, partners are encouraged to seize the opportunity to establish charging stations nationwide, contributing to the expansion of Nigeria’s EV infrastructure.

He further explained that it will leverage Egoras’ cutting-edge Egochain technology to incentivize station ownership and foster the expansion of the Egostation network.

As more vehicles utilize Egostations for charging, station owners earn rewards in the form of $EGAX block tokens, creating a mutually beneficial system that encourages network growth and rewards those who contribute to its success.

“The integration of Egochain technology into Egostation represents a paradigm shift in the EV charging landscape,” explained Harry.

“By incentivizing station ownership and rewarding participation, we are driving the widespread adoption of EVs while simultaneously advancing Nigeria’s EV infrastructure.”

Last year, the company launched a gas-powered tricycle known as the Egoras Dual-Fuel Tricycle.

The tricycle offered a cost-effective solution for both urban and rural areas, while also contributing to a greener environment.
