This remarkable milestone, part of Phase II of the National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB) project, underscores GBB’s unwavering commitment to connecting the nation and enabling Nigeria’s digital transformation.

Commenting on this achievement, Prof. Ibrahim Adeyanju, managing director/CEO of Galaxy Backbone, stated:

“The expansion of our fibre optic network to Lagos, Ibadan and Ilorin is a significant step forward in our mission to bridge the digital divide and position Nigeria as a leader in the global digital economy. This advanced infrastructure empowers us to deliver innovative, customer-centric solutions that serve the needs of both the public and private sectors.”

According to a statement signed by Mr. Chidi Okpala, head, Corporate Communications at Galaxy Backbone, with a robust cross-country optical fibre backbone now extending over 5,000 kilometers and across 27 state capitals, GBB has solidified its role as the digital backbone of Nigeria.

This development seamlessly integrates the nation’s six geopolitical zones, enhancing digital inclusion, fostering economic growth and position GBB as the digital backbone of Nigeria.

The newly completed Abuja-to-Lagos route, traversing key cities such as Minna, Bida, Mokwa, ilorin, Ogbomoso, Oyo, Ibadan and Lagos, is a strategic enhancement designed to strengthen network reliability.

By establishing a closed network ring linking Lagos—the nation’s economic hub—to Abuja, the capital city, GBB ensures service redundancy and minimizes potential downtime, delivering a world-class user experience.

Prof. Adeyanju highlighted the broader implications of this achievement, adding:

“This expansion not only supports the government’s digital economy agenda but also sets the stage for meaningful collaboration with private sector organizations seeking to leverage our infrastructure. Together, we can unlock innovation and drive sustainable development across diverse sectors.”

Galaxy Backbone’s dedication to delivering high-speed, secure connectivity continues to empower government institutions and businesses.

By extending its reach into Lagos, Ibadan and Ilorin, GBB reaffirms its position as a trusted partner in Nigeria’s socio-economic development and its digital transformation journey towards becoming a digital inclusive nation.
