The solutions, GIGM said are part of efforts to address fragmentation in Nigeria’s mobility and logistics sector.

The event, scheduled for April 23, 2026, at Eko Hotel & Suites in Lagos, is expected to bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and technology innovators to explore the future of transportation and logistics in Africa.

The company said the conference would focus on building a seamless and fully integrated mobility ecosystem, amid persistent challenges such as multiple booking platforms, inconsistent travel experiences, and disconnected payment and logistics systems.

Dr. Enahoro Okhae, chief executive officer of GIGM, said the initiative represents a shift from isolated service delivery to a unified system that connects all aspects of travel and logistics.

He noted that the current mobility landscape forces users to rely on multiple solutions to complete a single journey, adding that the company aims to streamline the process by integrating services such as booking, transportation, payments, accommodation, and logistics into one coordinated platform.

According to him, the conference will serve as a platform to demonstrate these innovations in real time, with participants expected to witness product launches and live demonstrations of the company’s integrated systems.

GIGM said the event would also feature keynote sessions and discussions aimed at challenging existing mobility models and highlighting the role of technology in improving efficiency and accessibility across the sector.

The company maintained that its integrated approach is designed not only to improve convenience for users but also to unlock broader economic opportunities by connecting people, businesses, and services more efficiently.

As urbanisation and digital adoption continue to grow, GIGM said the demand for reliable and seamless mobility solutions is increasing, stressing that integration remains critical to sustaining growth in the sector.

The conference is expected to position the company as a key player in the evolution of mobility in Nigeria, with a focus on delivering a unified travel experience that eliminates inefficiencies across the value chain.

GIGM is a Nigerian mobility company providing transport and logistics services, with a focus on leveraging technology to enhance customer experience and expand access to integrated travel solutions.

GIG Mobility Canvasses Public-Private Partnership to Secure the Future of Mobility https://techeconomy.ng/gig-mobility-canvasses-public-private-partnership-to-secure-the-future-of-mobility/ https://techeconomy.ng/gig-mobility-canvasses-public-private-partnership-to-secure-the-future-of-mobility/#comments Mon, 06 Jun 2022 13:28:26 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=75764 Conversations around the future of mobility continue to gather momentum as private and public sector stakeholders converge on Lagos Island to make critical assessments and forge sustainable pathways for the industry.

Technology-driven mobility, which is seemingly trailing in Nigeria and Africa at large, is a critical component that provides economic benefits with positive multiplier effects such as better accessibility to markets, employment, and investments.

GIG Mobility (GIGM), a company that provides seamless mobility services to commuters across Africa, is now leading conversations on how Africa’s largest economy must position itself properly to secure the future of mobility that is driven by technology, especially as the world embraces electric vehicles (EVs).

https://techeconomy.ng/2021/06/gigl-introduces-electric-vehicles-for-deliveries-in-n250bn-logistics-sector/

The mobility giant, last week, organized Africa Mobility Conference in Lagos tagged: ‘Pathway to the future of mobility in Africa,’ where leading players and stakeholders came to the table to have a seemingly fruitful discourse.

the Future of Mobility
Enahoro Okhae, CEO at GIG Mobility (GIGM)

Some of the notable stakeholders at the conference were – Frederick Oladeinde, Transport Commissioner, Lagos State who was represented by Hafeez Toriola; Abimbola Akinajo, Managing Director, Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA); Segun Ogungbemide, Lagos State Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Edward Mobogo, COO, Myride Kenya, among others.

Enahoro Okhae, who leads as the CEO at GIG Mobility (GIGM), after the first segment of the conference, said it was clear upon his assumption of office that players in the industry were not the ones shaping the narrative.

While it remains fundamental for a concrete synergy between operators and regulators, he said that there was no intentional platform that brings all stakeholders together, hence the conference.

“We cannot achieve this goal – securing the future without the players across the industry and government.”

He said GIGM thought the first step was to bring everybody together and begin to change and shift that narrative on how to plan for the future of mobility in Nigeria.

As a key player in the sector, GIGM is already positioning itself for global opportunities, deploying massive technology to streamline and solve mobility problems in Nigeria and beyond.

the Future of Mobility

He said GIGM is already doing things that people think cannot happen in Nigeria many years ago by leveraging technology. And one step further is to bring the right people in and begin to address challenges that will shape the future of mobility.

According to Okhae, mobility is just not about moving people or an item from one location to another; it involves much more – lifestyle.

Public-Private Partnership

GIGM is canvassing for a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) with the Lagos State Government to ensure the rollout of electric vehicle charging port infrastructure.

The proposed PPP strategic move is also open to other state governments across Nigeria. GIGM is currently mapping out a strategic plan to unveil its electric vehicles as soon as it finishes studying data from GIG Logistics, a sister company that launched Evs in 2021.

GIGL signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JET Motor Company, one of the fastest indigenous automobile assembly and distribution companies.

EVs are powered by technology – a collector system with electricity from extravehicular sources and powered autonomously by a battery by converting fuel to electricity using fuel cells or a generator.

The vision of GIGM is to effectively and sufficiently leverage technology and have many EVs with various charging stations across the country which will aid mobility in Nigeria and beyond. Okha said with the support of the government by proving charging ports for electric vehicles at many locations in the country will have a positive impact on the cost of operation, such as eliminating the cost of using diesel and petrol, as well as significantly reducing repair expenses, while also making the environment less harmful by reducing carbon emissions.

the Future of Mobility

“We want a situation where we can move EVs from Lagos to Ore (Ondo State), then we get people trans-loaded to another already charged EV in Ore, then it moves to another destination, gets trans-loaded again to another charged electric vehicles. We want to be able to take the vehicles to places like Jos and all parts of the country.”

Okhae reiterated that GIGM is still gathering data from GIGL and developing strategic plans to hit the ground running as soon as practicable. However, maintained that the company is willing to bring in 200 electric vehicles should state governments start buying into the vision of shaping the future of mobility.

“If the Lagos State Government can put together charging ports for our EVs and then we won’t have to spend a huge amount of money on operational costs. It’s so easy for us to then run our business.

We are ready to bring in 200 electric vehicles into the country immediately, we want to see a situation whereby we have state governments providing charging ports for electric vehicles.”

Stakeholders’ View On The Future Of Mobility

According to Hafeez Toriola who represented the Transport Commissioner for Lagos State at the conference, there is a policy document that addresses traffic congestion in the state, better environment time of reducing pollution, as well as traffic management.

He said the Lagos State Government is particularly concerned about electric vehicles, however, needs a document that will ensure the incorporation of the private sector.

Toriola agreed that having a PPP arrangement would help provide the needed infrastructure as the government does not have all the funds. He revealed that the state government has involved the private sector to carry out the fourth mainland bridge project.

“So let me just summarize it. It’s all about having an integrated transport system, advanced traffic management, and private sector engagement or partnership.”

According to MD LAMATA, future mobility must speak to the ease of mobility by leveraging technology to drive physical infrastructure. She said all transportation modes such as land, water, and rail must be fully integrated and driven by technology.

The future of mobility

“Think of the ease of mobility, so we can’t take away technology from it. We will continue to drive physical infrastructure, which must be aided and completely driven by technology.”

According to Okhae, the future is technology, collaboration, and having the right policies that will allow all players in the mobility sector to thrive.

He said there is a need for a decentralized transportation framework that would allow different states to grow, however, harnessing everybody together. However, such a framework should allow different states at different levels to flow with what works for them.

Potential Partnerships

There is a potential partnership between GIGM and LAMATA, Lagos State Transport Ministry that will possibly reshape policies that will be business-friendly, massive infrastructure deployment for electric vehicles, and others.

‘I can confirm to you that because of this conference, GIGM is going to collaborate with LAMATA. We will also collaborate with other governmental bodies present here today,” Okhae said.

The new GIGM boss will bring his playbook and work towards reshaping the mobility sector said the conference was very much different from other conferences which do not have follow-up actions and implementations.

“After this conference, our team will start moving towards, it’s not just about talking without doing anything. We have to do something about it. I have come to realize that I want to make some decisions.

The future of mobility

He said innovative transformation will elude any nation that is not ready to move forward and that moving forward requires drastic calculated actions.

“We’ve got to understand that we have to take the opportunity in our hands and determine our future. That’s what we are doing; GIGM is determining the future of mobility, and the future of the next generation.”

Code Reuse - A Pathway to Better Software Development https://techeconomy.ng/code-reuse-a-pathway-to-better-software-development/ https://techeconomy.ng/code-reuse-a-pathway-to-better-software-development/#respond Thu, 10 Mar 2022 20:41:00 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=95485 Article Written By: Kenneth Nwanganga

Code Reuse
Code Snippet

Software development has become relatively easy to go into, after all you don’t really need to write all your codes yourself.

While writing this, I was just thinking about how long it would have taken me to deliver on several projects I have worked on. I have at many points reused a lot of code base over the years.

In fact I actually have a collection of codebase I reference every time I am working on a new project, say I am involved in a payment platform, I know that I will need a code that will convert an input to amount/currency, I have only written this code once and used it in several projects.

The advancement of the digital age has created a pathway for developers to reuse existing code snippets, thanks to early developers who have solved many complex problems using their skills. Generally, software development is about solving real-world issues. Every application is made-up of different code snippets, whether you are building an application that reports the current time or you are building an application that processes customer orders, you’ll definitely combine some code logic to arrive at a solution.

A lot of people think software development is complex. If they truly understand how powerful and useful code reuse can be, they’ll really see software development in a different way. As a senior developer, I’ve discovered that whenever I return to Google to look for answers to coding-related issues I’ve already resolved (such as splitting a comma-separated string, converting double to amount, and many other issues), I end up using the same code I did before.

Code reuse is essential in software development because it allows programmers to write the same code over and over again. It saves time, money, and resources; and helps reduce errors by increasing overall quality of products. When business owners hear that you can save them money, they are always happy and will welcome the idea of cost saving, after all nobody likes to waste money.

What is code reuse?

Code reuse means the use of a piece of software in multiple applications. If developers were to replicate some existing applications such as Facebook, it’ll take them less time than it took the original developers because most of the functionalities they require can be found in some open-source repositories. The role that code reuse plays in software development is so huge, it has helped companies save time and money.

One of the most important techniques that software engineers employ to shorten development cycles and boost productivity is source code reuse.

Stack Overflow is One of the most well-known places for developers to look for answers to common issues. There is a saying that many developers would have lost their employment if Stack Overflow goes offline for a week, and this paradigm allows developers to reuse codes or solutions from other developers.

Imagine if everyone had to construct their Blockchain system from the start; it would take a very long time, especially during the creation of smart contacts. This is another example of how code reuse has been beneficial.

Conclusion

Not because developers lack the ability to produce code that will solve their problems, but rather because they feel there is no need to reinvent the wheel, more than 70% of developers rely on code reuse.

The majority of problems in today’s world already have a solution. Utilizing existing codes will speed up development, increase output, and reduce costs. Through this initiative, developers will be able to work together more effectively and reduce code duplication in apps.

I encourage developers to create a personal repository of small pieces of code they believe are often used by them, so that once the need to implement something similar comes, they know exactly where to get such code from. Time they say is money, the more you practice code reuse the more money you save.

GIGL Integrates Crypto Wallet on its GIGGO App https://techeconomy.ng/gigl-integrates-crypto-wallet-on-its-giggo-app/ https://techeconomy.ng/gigl-integrates-crypto-wallet-on-its-giggo-app/#respond Tue, 01 Feb 2022 11:07:01 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=67183 The Crypto economy is rapidly expanding, and GIG Logistics, the leading provider of last-mile delivery solutions in West Africa, ensures its users are not left behind.

Last week, GIGL released a version of its propriety delivery app “GIGGo’ with a crypto wallet. The crypto wallet will be released in beta phases to 2000 users and progress to 8000-10000 users within two weeks before finally being released to all.

The beta version of the wallet will give room for adequate feedback on functionalities and user experience.

GIGL integrates Crypto Wallet
Screenshot of the Crypto Wallet

On the crypto wallet, users would be enabled to perform key digital transactions like buy, store, send, withdraw and earn from digital assets. Users will also be eligible for rewards in cryptocurrency.

To do this, GIGL has partnered with XPAD, a crypto platform that will power custodial services backend. XPAD is built on the most secure ledger globally, which will guarantee asset security.

Users will get an update notification, introducing the crypto wallet functionality and get a prompt to sign up. If the user already has an account with the XPAD platform, they will be required to import their XPAD wallet by inputting wallet credentials.

This action will enable current XPAD users to perform crypto transactions from the GIGGo app. Some of the assets available for purchase are UDST, BITCOIN and CFX, and beta users will be allowed to make any asset purchase worth the equivalent of a maximum of 500,000 Naira daily.

“We are advocates for borderless transactions, progress and economic freedom. As a global delivery partner to all our users worldwide, we want to offer the ability to do much more than deliveries by providing digital services that promote efficiency, ease and wealth. Our customers be they individuals, e-commerce merchants or corporate partners, can now buy and hold digital assets on GIGGo through the integration with XPAD,” says Ocholi Etu, GIGL’s Director of Operations.

“Connecting GIGL users to cryptocurrency banking is a huge responsibility, and we have put the necessary infrastructure in place to ensure seamless and safe crypto transactions,” he continued.

This initiative would significantly increase the number of crypto wallet owners and ultimately translate to more numbers for the crypto economy.

Besides providing a crypto wallet, this integration lowers the barriers to entry and offers accessible alternatives to crypto adoption.

In this Q&A with TechEconomy.ng, Ocholi Etu, GIGL’s Director of Operations elaborates further on the moves:

Ocholi Etu, Gigl Crypto Wallet
Ocholi Etu

Can you introduce GIGL Crypto Wallet to us?

Ocholi: GIGL did not build a crypto wallet. What we did was integrate with an existing crypto platform “XPAD” to power custodial services backend.

What can users do with the Wallet?

Ocholi On the crypto wallet, users would be enabled to perform key digital transactions like buy, store, send, withdraw and earn from digital assets. Users will also be eligible for rewards in cryptocurrency as well as have the ability to pay for global transactions unrestricted.

How can Crypto Assets be purchased?

Ocholi: Assets can be funded the most simple and convenient way. 70% of Nigerians own a bank account. To purchase any asset of choice, all that is required is to click the asset, input amount and select desired Peer to peer merchant from the marketplace, then complete a bank transfer to the specified bank detail.

You are testing the beta version, when will it be fully functional?

Ocholi: The wallet is fully tested and functional. We are only releasing to users in batches to get more feedback. We have deployed to the first 2000 users who updated their apps, we will progress to 8000 and 10,000 within the next two weeks before releasing to everyone.

digital currencies, Crypto, cryptocurrencies, Gigx Coin, GigxCoin
Digital Currencies: A fusion of Gigx Coin and others

Security is a major concern with regards Crypto wallets. What security measures are there to safeguard the GIGL Crypto Wallet?

Ocholi: The XPAD platform is built on the most secure ledger globally and runs a solid encryption service.

Who can use the GIGL Crypto Wallet? And where?

Ocholi: Anyone, anywhere in the world can enjoy the crypto wallet functionality on the

GIGGo app. You only need to have the app downloaded.

Is GIGL planning to introduce its own Cryptocurrency?

Ocholi: With technology you never say ‘never’. Everything is possible. We believe in borderless transactions and will continue to leverage technology to enhance this.

Wallets typically make for easier payments for service rendered be it fiat or crypto.

The ability to pay for global transactions unrestricted is a big deal as commerce is incomplete without the ability to pay; seeing that most merchants are import reliant.

As we would agree, cryptocurrency is the future of money and by integrating a crypto wallet, GIGL is making it easy for crypto adoption by giving users something different and relevant on an app they are already familiar with. They can store their profits in USDT and hedge against naira devaluation.

Finally, the more useful functionalities are available on the app, the more value GIGL is able to give to users.
