Now in its seventh year, CDEC is far more than an essay competition. It is one of SystemSpecs’ flagship ESG initiatives, a deliberate, long-term investment in shaping a generation of young Nigerians who see technology not as a distant abstraction, but as a living tool for transforming their country, one sector at a time.

Each year’s theme is carefully chosen to direct young minds toward a pressing national challenge, inviting them not merely to describe problems, but to think critically, propose solutions, and begin to see themselves as architects of Nigeria’s future.

This year’s theme: “Achieving Safer and More Effective Transportation in Nigeria Through Information Technology”, challenged participants aged 9 to 16 to engage Nigeria’s transportation sector through the lens of innovation, safety, efficiency, and national development.

A Programme Built for Depth and Authenticity

The CDEC process is intentionally rigorous. Submissions opened in February, giving participants ample time to research, reflect, and craft thoughtful responses.

Shortlisted essays then advanced to a second-level evaluation, a direct engagement process through which judges could understand the thinking, background, and personal motivation behind each submission.

Mrs. Bukola Adeboye, group head of Corporate Services at SystemSpecs, described the evaluation process as one of the competition’s most defining features.

“The second-level evaluation remains one of the most important aspects of the competition because it validates authenticity while helping judges understand the heart, background, and transformative story behind each essay. The conversations this year were deeply insightful and inspiring,” she said.

She also noted the impressive quality of ideas that emerged this year.

“What stood out was how thoughtfully these children connected technology with practical solutions across road, rail, air, and water transportation. Many proposed ideas around commuter safety, digital monitoring, emergency response systems, traffic coordination, and accessibility,” she added.

A National Movement Gaining Momentum

Since its launch in 2020, SystemSpecs CDEC has received over 20,000 essay submissions from children across all six geopolitical zones, a testament to the growing hunger among Nigerian youth to engage meaningfully with the challenges shaping their country.

The 2026 edition sustained this momentum with strong, nationwide representation, and a continued rise in female participation that has grown by 36.5 per cent over the past three years – reflecting a competition that is becoming more inclusive with every passing year.

This year’s top 50 finalists across both the Junior and Senior categories were drawn from multiple geopolitical zones, underscoring the truly national character of the initiative.

Meet the 2026 Winners

In the Senior Category, Obioha Pharez of The Court Hill College, Lagos, claimed first place, followed by Abiodun Ayomide of Oshodi Comprehensive Senior High School, Lagos, and Eruba Samuel of Deeper Life High School, Port Harcourt Campus, Rivers State.

In the Junior Category, Idris Zainab of You-Nik International Technopreneurship Secondary School, Lafia, Nasarawa State, emerged as the winner. Sanu Anjolaoluwa Adaora of Kesbe International School, Lagos, and Dieke Oluomachukwu Rachael of Divine Love Secondary School, Enugu, followed as first and second runners-up respectively.

Category winners will receive ₦1 million in cash, alongside laptops, educational resources, one-year internet subscriptions, and additional prizes. Second and third-place finalists will each receive laptops in addition to cash prizes of ₦750,000 and ₦500,000 respectively, with consolation prizes for finalists placed fourth through tenth.

Obele Community Senior High School was named the winning school in the Senior Category, while You-Nik International Technopreneurship Secondary School, Lafia, claimed top honours in the Junior Category. Both schools will receive 10 laptops each.

Investing in Nigeria’s Future, One Generation at a Time

Mr. ‘DeRemi Atanda, Managing Director of Remita, reflected on the broader purpose of CDEC within SystemSpecs’ commitment to national development.

“CDEC continues to show that Nigerian children are observant, solution-driven, and capable of contributing meaningfully to conversations around national development. For us, this initiative is about investing in future leaders and innovators who can think critically about the country’s future,” he said.

Mr. Udy Ngele, managing director of HumanManager, connected this year’s transportation theme to the wider imperative of digital transformation.

“Digital transformation should not happen only within workplaces. It must also reflect in the ease, safety, comfort, and efficiency people experience daily while moving across the country. Smarter transportation systems ultimately improve productivity, workforce wellbeing, and human capital outcomes,” he stated.

Mr. Atanda also acknowledged the emotional weight of this year’s celebration amid growing national concerns over the safety of children.

“While we celebrate the brilliance and promise of Nigerian children today, we stand in solidarity with families affected by insecurity and continue to hope and pray for the safe return of every child in captivity. Every child deserves the freedom to dream, learn, grow, and thrive safely,” he said.

SystemSpecs reaffirmed its commitment to CDEC as an enduring platform for discovery, purpose, and national transformation – one that will continue nurturing the next generation of innovators and problem-solvers who will help define the direction of Nigeria’s future in an increasingly technology-driven world.

The event brought together key players across the tech and business landscape to explore innovation and development across Africa’s digital economy.

While showcasing its innovative HR and payroll technologies, HumanManager engaged with key stakeholders, demonstrating how companies can leverage data to enhance employee experience, performance, and organisational alignment.

Speaking during a media interview at the event, Mr. Udy Ngele, Managing Director of HumanManager Limited, emphasised the importance of adopting a data-backed approach to human capital management in a fast-evolving work environment. He noted that while technology continues to redefine operations, the core challenge of retaining high-performing employees remains as urgent as ever.

“Technology will continue to evolve, but the demand for emotionally intelligent, committed professionals remains constant. Organisations must use data to understand and respond to workforce needs, build strong internal cultures, and reward excellence,” he said.

Mr. Ngele also highlighted that automating HR functions such as onboarding, payroll processing, and benefits administration can significantly improve employee satisfaction when supported by actionable insights.

“Data must become the basis for decisions about promotions, engagement, and conflict resolution. A transparent and human-centred workplace is essential for long-term growth,” he added.

He cautioned against allowing toxic work cultures to persist due to inaction, urging organisations to uphold empathy, fairness, and consistency in internal governance and employee engagement.

“Sustainable workplace culture is not built by chance, it is shaped by deliberate choices. Organisations must proactively address dysfunction, empower their people, and use both technology and empathy to foster environments where individuals and teams can thrive,” he said.

Reflecting on HumanManager’s role in enabling this transformation, Mr. Ngele explained that the company supports organisations of all sizes, from startups to large enterprises, with integrated digital solutions and strategic advisory.

“We help organisations build inclusive, high-trust workplaces by providing tools that offer real insight into employee experience and workforce dynamics, ultimately aligning people strategies with business outcomes,” he said.

He praised LCCI for organising a platform that encourages cross-sector visibility and collaboration. “ICTEL 2025 has not only showcased innovation but also highlighted how much Nigeria’s tech space has matured. It’s a privilege to be part of this journey,” he said.

He also shared personal reflections on the growth of Nigeria’s tech ecosystem, recalling how his transition from accounting into technology was once hindered by a lack of local tools and training.

“When I joined HumanManager, the landscape was narrow. Today, more young professionals are making smoother transitions into tech and that’s a sign of real progress.”

The 11th edition of the ICTEL Expo, themed “Leveraging Technology Innovation and Development in Africa”, featured keynote speeches, startup pitch sessions, panel discussions, innovation challenges, and networking opportunities.

The event attracted leading figures such as Mr Tubosun Alake, Lagos State Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology; Mrs Tola Odeyemi, Postmaster General of NIPOST; Dr Aminu Maida, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC); and Bisoye Coker-Odusote, Director-General of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).

Looking ahead, HumanManager Limited is reinforcing its mission to revolutionise human capital management across Africa. As workforce needs evolve and the digital economy expands, the company is committed to developing more intelligent, locally adaptable solutions that empower businesses to manage talent efficiently and equitably.

With a legacy rooted in innovation and impact, HumanManager remains focused on shaping the future of work by enabling organisations to harness technology for inclusive growth, agile performance, and long-term success.

For HumanManager, this isn’t just another tech showcase—it’s a chance to share its ongoing journey of transforming how organisations across the continent manage, engage, and empower their people.

With a legacy stretching back to 1994 as a pioneering solution from SystemSpecs (Nigeria’s premier tech group), HumanManager has evolved into a standalone company under SystemSpecs Holdings.

“Work today is more than just tasks and tools, it’s about purpose, insight, and connection,”

HumanManager believes that African-born tech solutions, when driven by insight and purpose, can play a defining role in shaping the continent’s economic future.

SystemSpecs Advocates Academia-Industry Alliances to Propel Africa’s SDGs https://techeconomy.ng/systemspecs-advocates-academia-industry-alliances-to-propel-africas-sdgs/ https://techeconomy.ng/systemspecs-advocates-academia-industry-alliances-to-propel-africas-sdgs/#respond Fri, 06 Dec 2024 16:17:37 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=149006 Collaboration between academia and industry is pivotal to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across Africa, affirmed Tereigh Ozakpo, Head of Sales and Business Development at SystemSpecs Technology Services Limited (STSL).

Ozakpo made this statement while speaking at the Industrial Trust Fund & Trinity University Conference/Workshop 2024, held recently, at Drapers Hall, Institute of African Studies, University of Ibadan.

The conference, themed “Exploring the Prospects of Attaining the Sustainable Development Goals in Africa: Imperatives for Human Capital Development,” convened experts to discuss innovative strategies for addressing Africa’s socio-economic challenges through human capital development.

The event was proudly sponsored by STSL and HumanManager Limited.

In his address, Ozakpo underscored the centrality of human capital development to the SDGs, stressing that the goals lose their significance without a focus on people.

He remarked, “If you take the humans out of the SDGs, they mean nothing. These goals are all about addressing human challenges, and the most effective way to tackle those challenges is to invest in improving the human being. A ripple effect begins with just one person or one effort, ultimately transforming entire communities.”

Echoing the emphasis on human capital development, Prof. Clement Olusegun Kolawole, the vice-chancellor of Trinity University, highlighted the indispensable role of education in achieving sustainable development during his welcome address.

He stated:

“Without investing in human capacity development and leveraging education, sustainable development remains unattainable. The inability of many African countries to achieve the SDGs in 2015 was largely attributed to the failure to deploy education as a driving force. This realization must serve as a clarion call for nations to prioritize human capacity development as the cornerstone of progress.”

Prof. Kolawole’s remarks reinforced the need for strategic investment in education to address Africa’s developmental challenges and accelerate progress toward achieving the SDGs.

Showcasing SystemSpecs’ contribution to advancing the SDGs, Ozakpo highlighted the transformative role of technology in creating sustainable systems:

“At SystemSpecs, we are digitising communities, helping them move from manual to digital systems. Starting with schools like Trinity University, we are enabling seamless interactions between students, and management, and creating inclusive, safe, and sustainable environments aligned with SDG 11.”

He noted that digitisation is not just a tool but a catalyst for innovation, creating opportunities for more efficient systems and inclusive growth.

He further underscored the transformative role of the organisation in bridging gaps across sectors and highlighted the use of innovative solutions like Remita, HumanManager, Pouchii, and Deelaa to digitise processes, enhance financial inclusion, and improve resource management.

“By empowering individuals and institutions with these tools, SystemSpecs is creating inclusive and sustainable systems that align with global SDG targets,” Ozakpo noted.

Addressing the evolving needs of the tech-savvy Gen Z demographic, Ozakpo stressed the importance of academia embracing technology to ensure education remains relevant.

“With 90% of students on campuses today being Gen Z, academia must embrace technology to engage them. If we fail to meet them where they are, we risk making education irrelevant to their lives and aspirations,” he remarked.

Ozakpo also reflected on the broader implications of leveraging innovation to tackle critical challenges in healthcare, governance, and agriculture.

He called for unified action among academia, industry, and policymakers to unlock Africa’s potential, asserting that human capital is the continent’s greatest resource.

The Industrial Trust Fund & Trinity University Conference/Workshop 2024 provided a platform for thought leaders, academics, and policymakers to explore strategies for human capital development and sustainable progress.

Ozakpo’s presentation reaffirmed that Africa’s development requires the collective effort of academia, industry, and government to create partnerships that drive lasting change.

By working together and leveraging technology, innovation, and education, we can achieve the SDGs and build a sustainable future for the continent.

Adekunbi Ademiluyi, the Managing Director of HumanManager Limited (HML), a leading HR and Payroll solutions firm has underscored that companies must harness the power of technology in their collaborative efforts to ensure a prosperous future, fostering innovation and growth that benefits all stakeholders.

HumanManager Joins Hands with MIGO to Provide Instant Loans to Employees

While speaking as a panellist at the 12th yearly Conference Investiture of Fellows, Induction of Associates, and Annual General Meeting of the Institute of Capital Market Registrars, held under the theme ‘Navigating Nigeria’s Economic Realities: The Transformative Power of Technology in the Capital Market,’ Adekumbi accentuated the significance of cooperation in building a strong market system.

As the world grapples with interconnected challenges, Ademiluyi stressed the paramount importance of collaboration in achieving success.

Her focus extended beyond the mere utilisation of technological tools, emphasising the exchange of global ideas and strategies for mutual prosperity.

“In the contemporary interconnected global landscape, collaboration is not just an option but a crucial factor for achieving success. It extends beyond the use of technological tools and encapsulates the exchange of worldwide ideas and strategies, collectively harnessed for mutual prosperity. It transcends geographical boundaries, providing a range of perspectives that drive innovation and adaptability. It’s essential to underscore that a thriving market ecosystem depends on stakeholders collaborating to overcome challenges and capitalise on opportunities,” she remarked.

Speaking on HumanManager’s commitment to providing seamless human resource services and improving ROI for its customers, Adekumbi opined that combining expertise is also a necessary driver for social and economic progress.

capital market

Companies should therefore be positioned to solve their customers’ complex challenges by combining global market expertise with research, to deliver optimal execution.

“The collaborative utilisation of technology not only promotes economic prosperity but also drives social progress. It creates opportunities for job creation, skill development, and community engagement. By focusing on these intertwined elements, companies can contribute to the well-being of their employees, customers, and the broader society,” she added.

The capital market has undergone substantial changes due to technological evolution, notably with the advent of computerised trading and the subsequent integration of artificial intelligence (AI).

The swift digital transformation has facilitated novel business models, nimble decision-making, and effective resource allocation.

As capital markets continue to evolve, firms must adapt more readily to changing markets and customer needs by investing in advanced technologies to streamline operations and improve decision-making capabilities.

In providing the capital needed for sustainable growth and development, Nigeria can adopt aggressive change management and emerge as efficient and internationally competitive.

The Conference featured notable attendees, including Ade Bajomo, President, FinTechNGR; Seyi Owoturo, President and Chairman of Council, Institute of Capital Market Registrars (ICMR); Hon. Amos Azi, Chairman, of Investment and Security Tribunal; and Catherine Nwosu, 2nd Vice President, ICMR.

Embrace Globalisation for Optimal Employment Processes – Adekunbi Ademiluyi https://techeconomy.ng/embrace-globalisation-for-optimal-employment-processes-adekunbi-ademiluyi/ https://techeconomy.ng/embrace-globalisation-for-optimal-employment-processes-adekunbi-ademiluyi/#respond Tue, 11 Jul 2023 23:02:00 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=107014 To optimise employment processes and employees’ welfare, organisations should embrace dynamism and globalisation, said Adekunbi Ademiluyi, Managing Director of HumanManager Limited (HML), a leading HR and Payroll solutions firm and a subsidiary of SystemSpecs Holdings Limited (SHL),

She made this remark while delivering her keynote address at the 2023 Digital PayExpo conference held recently in Lagos.

The conference, themed ‘The Future is Contactless’, converged stakeholders in the financial sector and others to explore the potential of contactless payments technology in fostering the adoption of cashless transactions in Africa.

Adekunbi, who has over 23 years of experience in banking, payments, and strategy, stressed the need for clear and concise communication in managing a diverse workforce.

“Business managers and leaders need to communicate effectively to ensure growth and a perfect work balance. You should also actively promote diversity and inclusion within the organisation to ensure that diverse voices are heard and valued in the decision-making processes,” she said.

She noted that showing empathy would boost productivity and innovation among employees.

“In terms of gender balance and excellence, the goal is to attain and maintain work leadership. When you compare gender equality in other African countries to Nigeria, which currently has a 70-30 per cent ratio, you will realise that Nigeria is not bad at all,”

Adekunbi Ademiluyi said.

Adekunbi also pointed out the various benefits of dynamism for economic growth, personal growth, enriched perspective, and social cohesion. She elaborated on how diverse cultures can stimulate international trade and tourism and that Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) can be used to measure the productivity of employees, especially those working remotely.

“By incorporating global thinking into talent management practices, organisations can effectively attract talented workforce capable of thriving in a globalised business environment. This approach enables firms to leverage the strengths of a global workforce and achieve sustainable success in a rapidly changing world,”

Adekunbi Ademiluyi added.
