The initiative forms part of inDrive’s continued commitment to driver welfare, recognising the critical role drivers play in delivering reliable and high-quality service on the platform. Introduced in 2025, the Platinum Driver Programme rewards highly rated drivers who consistently maintain excellent service standards and collectively deliver more than 70% of the service quality on inDrive.

Since its launch, the programme has rewarded over 3,000 drivers with prizes valued at more than ₦1.2 billion, reinforcing inDrive’s mission to support drivers beyond ride earnings and create a more sustainable driver ecosystem.

Building on the success of the programme, the partnership with Heala introduces healthcare benefits designed to support the wellbeing of these dedicated drivers and their families.

Eligible Platinum drivers can now subscribe to healthcare plans directly through the inDrive app, allowing them to consult licensed doctors remotely and access essential medical services without disrupting their work schedules.

Ride-hailing drivers often spend long hours navigating busy urban environments, making it difficult to visit healthcare facilities during traditional operating hours.

As independent contractors, many drivers also do not have access to employer-provided benefits such as healthcare coverage.

Through the integration of Heala’s digital health infrastructure into the platform, Platinum drivers can subscribe to healthcare plans starting from ₦1,300 per month. Once enrolled, drivers can consult licensed doctors via video, voice, or chat, receive prescriptions, and access medications at nearby pharmacies.

Diagnostic tests and specialist referrals are also available, while annual subscriptions include hospital visits when required.

Importantly, the healthcare plans can be extended to spouses and children, enabling drivers to provide medical support for their families as well.

“Driver welfare remains a core pillar of our operations,” said Oladimeji Timothy, country representative for inDrive Nigeria. “The Platinum Driver Programme was created to recognise and reward drivers who consistently provide outstanding service on the platform. Expanding the programme through our partnership with Heala allows us to go even further by supporting the health and wellbeing of these drivers and their families.”

Anderson Oriahi, CEO of Heala, added:

“Our partnership with inDrive demonstrates how technology can make healthcare more accessible for people with demanding schedules. Drivers play an essential role in keeping cities moving, and through this collaboration we are ensuring they can access quality healthcare quickly and conveniently, wherever they are.”

The collaboration reflects a growing shift within the mobility sector toward strengthening driver support systems beyond earnings.

By integrating services that address real-life needs such as healthcare access, inDrive continues to build a more inclusive and supportive environment for drivers on its platform.

This was disclosed in a latest report by Sensor Tower, a leading market intelligence firm.

The report also stated that the company ranked fourth globally in the travel category for downloads, up from fifth place in 2024, reflecting growing engagement as it continues its transition into a super app.

The inDrive app, defined by its peer-to-peer pricing model that allows drivers and riders to agree on a fair price mutually, has now been downloaded over 400 million times since its launch.

Available in 1,065 cities worldwide, it has facilitated more than 8 billion transactions.

According to the report, inDrive was also ranked number one in the travel category by downloads in nine countries, with newcomers to the list including Peru and Pakistan, and placed among the top three most downloaded travel apps in 22 countries.

In 2025, inDrive accelerated its transition into a super app, expanding beyond its core ride-hailing offering to offer additional services, including intercity transportation, courier, grocery delivery, and financial services.

By expanding its offering and meeting more of its users’ daily needs, inDrive is driving deeper and more frequent user engagement, an approach that underpins its continued global momentum.

Technology under the hood, including AI and advanced analytics, plays a significant role in supporting this evolution by enabling greater personalization and more seamless user experiences.

From using machine learning to fix mapping gaps and deliver more accurate ETAs, to predictive analytics that anticipate user needs and personalize service offerings, these capabilities drive innovation.

In contrast, ensuring users retain complete control over pricing decisions is consistent with inDrive’s commitment to fairness through choice.

The latest report, according to the firm, highlights that super app ecosystems are becoming a key growth driver for the ride-hailing industry, particularly in emerging markets where users are engaging more frequently and across a broader range of use cases.

In his remarks, Arsen Tomsky, founder/chief executive officer of inDrive, stated that the continued rise underscores a broader shift toward multi-service platforms that deliver everyday value while remaining closely aligned with local market needs and user expectations.

“Maintaining our position as the world’s second most downloaded ride-hailing app for a fourth consecutive year is a powerful validation of the value inDrive delivers to its users every day.

This recognition reflects the trust people place in our platform and the continued dedication of our global team. As inDrive evolves into a super app, we remain focused on our core principles of fairness, transparency, and user choice, while expanding access to services that make a meaningful difference in people’s daily lives,” Tomsky said.

This submission was made during the Safety Education event organised by inDrive recently in partnership with the Nigerian Police Force and the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director of Transport Operations, Lagos Ministry of Transportation, Engr. Olasunkanmi Ojowuro emphasised that all relevant stakeholders should intensify yearly efforts to train commuters and drivers, focusing on safety measures and road signage.

Ojowuro equally called on law enforcement agencies to step up to ensure adequate enforcement of violators of traffic laws in the State,

He stated that the Lagos State Government was playing its part in providing the much-needed infrastructure to enhance road safety and providing manpower support.

He urged all road users to adhere strictly to traffic and safety laws as enshrined in the state’s guiding principles, adding that this would help reduce the number of accidents leading to deaths and injuries and ensure the efficient management of traffic flows.

Also speaking, Senior Business Development Representative inDrive Timothy Oladimeji highlighted the newly added safety features on the inDrive app that form part of inDrive’s existing Safety Center.

These features allow users to add more emergency contacts, make it easier to share ride information with authorities, and improve in-app communication between riders and drivers.

Oladimeji stated that the ride-hailing app has many security features that can assist the rider and the driver against security threats.

The latest updates to the safety features are part of the inDrive Safety Pact, enhancing a comprehensive suite of safety measures.

These include driver verification and onboarding, real-time ride sharing with trusted contacts, and the ability for both riders and drivers to make informed choices based on ratings, reviews, and full details of rides.

This empowers users to make safety-conscious decisions, reinforcing inDrive’s commitment to putting the power of choice firmly in the hands of its users.

“Your belongings should always be with you, whether you are in the car or not. Users should not enter cars whose description does not match the car description on the inDrive app. Should you have an incident where you feel unsafe, have your belongings stolen, or even something smaller than that, it should be reported on the inDrive app through feedback or support. On the inDrive app, all users must give feedback about a driver before a new ride can be requested,” he said.

He emphasized that inDrive is fully committed to working closely with law enforcement agencies. The ride-hailing company stands ready to collaborate proactively with relevant authorities to identify and address any criminal activities that may occur during commutes. “If there is an incident with a driver or vice versa, a police report should be filed so that there is a record of the incident. If the passenger wants to press charges, the police will contact inDrive to get the necessary details of the driver, and they will work hand in hand with the authorities to fulfil the services they have made to passengers. These are safety measures taken after a trip,” he said.

In her remarks, Chief Superintendent of Police, Nigerian Police Force, Mrs. Funmilayo Omosehin, stressed the need for drivers to be more responsible while driving.

According to Omosehin, most road users have either been harassed or arrested by traffic officers because they disobeyed traffic rules and regulations.

inDrive Announces Safety Updates for Riders and Drivers https://techeconomy.ng/indrive-announces-safety-updates-for-riders-and-drivers/ https://techeconomy.ng/indrive-announces-safety-updates-for-riders-and-drivers/#respond Wed, 27 Mar 2024 17:59:49 +0000 https://techeconomy.ng/?p=127946 inDrive, the global mobility and urban services platform, has announced the upgrade of the safety features of its ride-hailing app, as part of innovative means of protecting the people using its platform.

Timothy Oladimeji, a senior business development representative, emphasized that inDrive’s Safety Centre update enables their support team to reach out to a user’s trusted contacts during emergencies, streamlines information sharing with emergency services, and includes other enhancements.

“We’re focused on protecting the safety of our driver-partners and users – right from joining the app, through each ride and thereafter, when we need to secure our users’ personal data. Besides, our company is growing rapidly, so constantly improving is critical. These upgrades make it easier for our support teams to react effectively when a passenger or driver needs help,” Oladimeji said.

According to him, users can manually add, edit, and delete trusted contacts as it was before.

“Now, following the upgrades, the number of trusted contacts has been increased from one to five, and inDrive’s support team can reach out to these contacts during emergencies, if the user isn’t available. (The support team can only view trusted contacts, but can’t edit, add or delete them).  And, by clicking on the app’s SOS button, users can see all the information needed when requesting help or reporting an incident – along with a button to call police or ambulance services”, he added.

He disclosed that inDrive’s app design has been updated to improve user experience, making the Safety Centre more visible.

“inDrive is also testing photo sharing and automatic translation of chat messages, which have been added to the in-app chat function. These make it easier for the driver and rider to clarify the pickup point, and communicate in the same language while traveling. Passengers and drivers stay within the application when using these features, so there’s no need to use them across other platforms, thereby protecting personal information. For now, the feature is currently being tested by a limited number of users to improve its functionality before it is rolled out to everyone,” he noted.

He explained that the update is part of the ride-hailing app’s Safety Pact which joins existing safety features, including driver verification and onboarding, the ability to share a ride in real-time with a trusted contact, the option to select each other based on existing ratings and reviews, and the visibility of the final destination address of the order so drivers can make informed decisions and decline orders if they seem unsafe.

He further stated that the company puts the power of choice in the hands of drivers and riders, by making this information available when selecting rides, so the app’s users are empowered to choose safety – just as one does in always remembering to buckle up.

The inDrive app update is available for both Android and iOS devices. To update your app, please visit the inDrive page in your preferred app store.
